View Full Version : Jordan's "GOATness" being dismantled little by little...

Jordan Stans will no longer be able to claim the 96 Bulls as "The Greatest Team of All Time". They can come in here and pretend like it's not a big deal, but let's be honest, they always cited that team as one of the proofs of Jordan's supposed "unanimous GOATness"

I know most of these 40+ year olds have to be shellshocked right now, because they never thought it could happen, let alone by a team of 3-point shooting midgets.

The '96 Bulls have 72-10 record, a title, Coach of the Year, Sixth Man of the year, a regular season/All-Star & Finals MVP, All-NBA/All-Defensive First Teams on their resume

so i find this thread laughable

So basically you're saying that the 96 Bulls were WAY MORE stacked?

Damn, that makes what Curry is doing even MORE impressive

Learn to read, little girl. This thread is about Jordan, not the 96 Bulls. You basically just buried yourself by admitting that Jordan had more to work with than Curry, yet Curry STILL is about to break the record. :applause:

It took THIS LONG for a team to be created to tie a record in an era with no hand checking. That's acutually pretty bad. Almost as bad as lebron colluding and not sniffing 72 wins.

I don't see this record (assuming they get it) having any impact on Jordan's GOAT status.

If anything, it allows people to claim 15/16 Warriors > 95/96 Bulls.

With or without the title.

So it's a knock against the Bulls overall, but not Jordan in particular.

It's all good young bucks. Only time can teach knowledge. In due time, after maybe a couple of decades, when you have watched the game for 20-30 years, the truth will reveal itself.

As an MJ fan myself, I have no bitterness towards GSW. They earned it.

The Bulls winning 72 games is barely a footnote in Jordan's legacy. When discussing Jordan's greatness it's rarely even brought up. It's irrelevant compared to the titles, MVP's, FMVPS, DPOY, all-NBA's, GOAT stats, etc....

Golden State had a perfect storm.

a lot of their consist of very high draft picks that had great talent but injury prone or young.

The perfect storm is Barnes is taking advantage of his offense opportunities. Livingston has been healthy and dominating second team PG's. It's unreal how much the stars aligned for them. Their head coach understands how Pops thinks and could potentially out coach him due to having so many options.

The only team that gives them fits throughout a game is OKC.

The 96 Bulls weren't the 'greatest team ever' even before this likely record breaking season by the Warriors. For that matter, I don't think they were even the best of their dynasty. I would take 92 or 93 Bulls over 96.

Curry- 7th pick
Klay- 11th pick
Barnes- 7th pick
Draygod- 35th pick
Ezeli- 30th pick

Seems like superior drafting to me. None of those guys were even top 5 picks.

Jordan's 6/6 is why he's GOAT..

And here's 4 Reasons why Curry isn't on Jordan's level:

1) This is Curry's first season as the NBA's best offensive player, compared to Jordan's 10 (in a row).

2) This is Curry's first season with 31+ PER, compared to Jordan's 4 seasons... And Jordan's 4 seasons were superior OVERALL as well:

Per 100 Possessions:

Jordan 88-91 (4 seasons): 42.2 pts.. 8.4 rebs.. 8.2 ast.. 3.9 tov.. 3.7 stl.. 1.3 blk.. 31.4 PER
Curry.. 2016.. (1 season).: 42.1 pts.. 7.7 rebs.. 9.4 ast.. 4.7 tov.. 3.0 stl.. 0.3 blk.. 31.2 PER

3) Jordan won rings while carrying a bigger load, even as an old man - we have stats for 34-35-year old Jordan in 1997 and 1998:

................PERCENTAGE OF TEAM POINTS SCORED WHILE PLAYER WAS ON FLOOR

.........................RS.....RS 4th.... PO....PO 4th....Finals.. Finals 4th

4) Jordan was the best on BOTH ends

Jordan's defensive impact dwarfs Curry's, especially against teams with great perimeter players, since Jordan can guard guys like Magic, Lebron, or Drexler, while Curry can only defend guys like Shumpert, Delly, etc.

There's a reason Curry didn't win FMVP in last year's Finals - he only did half the job, while Iggy did the other half (defense).

Otoh, MJ performed Iggy's duties on defense by guarding Magic/Drexler, while still having a goat offensive impact - Jordan's 2-way ability is why he has 6 FMVP's, compared to Curry's 0.
