View Full Version : Kobe never went all out in the regular season...

He did what he had to do, but he didn't push it to the limit.

He routinely rested during games he knew the team would win; rested while actually on the court.

He cared more about winning titles.

He could've had 5 MVP awards or more had he pushed himself and stat padded in meaningless games.

Kobe from '00-'13: 39 MPG and 21 shots a game with 1 MVP
LeBron for his career: 39 MPG and 20 shots a game with 4 MVP's

Him going all-out in 2013 basically ended him as an elite player

The benefit of winning championships early was that he got to see how much more important it was to be healthy in the post season so its no surprise if he didn't go all out in the regular season.

when we speak of longevity we speak of Kobe. The prime example of what it means to persevere beyond unmeasurable odds to come out on top as a winner. can you really speak of longevity when you haven't had to go thru any trials and tribulations? both mental and physical? what good is it if you haven't had to earn the title. kobe has been thru it all

Of course he didn't most seasons. When Kobe goes all out (aka hogs the ball), the Lakers lose more. See 2005-06, see 2004 Finals. Lakers were best when he deferred. See 2000-02 when Shaq was the focus. See 2010 Finals when they finally beat the Celtics and Pau was the real MVP. Kobe lucked out that voting focused more on points in 2010 Finals and 2009 the competition was just weak enough for him to gun for FMVP and win.
