View Full Version : Reaching the NBA Finals is a big accomplishment

And actually winning the NBA Finals is a separate, even bigger accomplishment.

Pretty obvious statement, yet a few fans seem confused by this.

Everyone knows who will win the east every single year since Bran started the colluding.

Look what happened when the field was somewhat level...the damn Magic bounced Bran.

Bran had no business losing to that Magic team. His style of play lost the series, even if he did fool basketball novices with his box scores.

Free agency isn't collusion.

Otherwise Pop colluded with his mate in Atlanta to take on Splitter's contract, then signed Aldridge.

"Built not Bought"

Wrong again.

When you join a team that just won the first pick in the draft 3 years in a row, you are colluding with them. That's exactly what Bron did. You would think that after getting castrated for teaming up with Bosh and Wade that he would have learned from his mistakes, but the mental midget went on do repeat the same thing that brought on so much disrepsect in the first place! :lol

I remember when the 2008 Lakers loss to Boston. NOBODY was congratulating Kobe and the Lakers on making it to the finals...

But in all seriousness Lebron has embarassed himself in each and every one of his finals losses

Getting Swept and putting up horrid numbers against the Spurs despite his team keeping games close. This is where Lebrons 4th quarter struggles began. He had HORRIBLE 4th quarters in the 07 finals

VERDICT: SWEPT

2011: Lebron is supposed to be a top 3 basketball player of all time yet he wasnt even the 3rd best player in this series :lol and not to mention mocking Dirk on his sickness and TELLING all his haters after game 6 that we had to go back to being poor, and living our worthless lives

Verdict: Loss 3 in a row after being up 2-1

2014: LeGM thinks its gon b eazy so he recruits Oden, Rashard Lewis, and Beasley to play for the Heat so he can get em a ring. Too bad Lebron finds out the Spurs have come to play and get absolutely embarassed in the finals. Lebron leads his team to getting BLOWN OUT in 3 games on the finals. Quite easily the most boring finals of all time because of the lack of competitiveness in the Heat

Verdict: Lost 3 in a row in BLOWOUT fashion

2015: :lol Blown out again in last 3 games despite being up 2-1

Lebron had no chance in 2015 Finals

Lebron should've won the 2015 Finals but he let a 7 ppg role player (Iggy) be > Curry.

Obviously, if Lebron holds Iggy to 7 ppg instead of 17 ppg, AND shoots better than 39% against the Warriors' single-coverage, the Cavs win easily.

It's amazing - even WITH Lebron's defense allowing Iggy to get 17 ppg (instead of 7 ppg), and even WITH Lebron shooting an abysmal 39%, the Cavs were still competitive and won 2 games - if he holds Iggy to 7 ppg and shoots 50%, the Cavs win easily.

Lebron had no chance in 2014 Finals

Horseshit - Lebron's defense was very good the first 2 games against Kawhi (9 ppg on 43%), and not surprisingly, the Heat were tied 1-1... They were competitive with the Spurs, just like OKC and Dallas were, who held Kawhi to 12 ppg on 45%.

But then Lebron gave up in Game 3, because he's weak with no perseverance - Kawhi proceeded to run roughshod the last 3 games for 24 ppg on 69% - this is the biggest reason the series changed - that's a 15 point swing.

Better defense on Kawhi would've kept the games closer, and the Heat could've WON the series if Lebron coupled his better defense on Kawhi with more offensive aggression - he only averaged 17 shot attempts, which was HALF his attempts in 2015 Finals that won 2 games with a worse supporting cast (the injured Cavs) against a better team (Warriors)..

Obviously, if Lebron plays good defense on Kawhi AND doubles his shot attempts to 33 per game like the 2015 Finals, the Heat would've won.

Not much Lebron could've done in 2007 Finals

Many guys played better against the same Spurs team:

Lebron vs. Spurs in 2007 Finals: 22 ppg on 35%

Melo vs. Spurs in 2007 1st Rd: 27 ppg on 48%

Dirk vs. Spurs in 2007.. WCF: 27 ppg on 53%

Bonzi vs. Spurs in 2006 1st Rd: 23/12 on 61%

Kobe vs. Spurs in 2008.. WCF: 29 ppg on 53%

The reason for Lebron's worse efficiency was JUMPSHOOTING EFFICIENCY:

....................... midrange jumpshot FG%..... 3-point jumpshot FG%..... Jumpshot proportion of offense

Lebron 2007 Finals (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/2544/stats/shooting/?Season=2006-07&SeasonType=Playoffs&PORound=4) .............14.8........................... 20.0............................... 52.2
Bonzi 2006 1st Rd (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/1719/stats/shooting/?Season=2005-06&SeasonType=Playoffs&PORound=1) ..............50.0........................... 62.5............................... 32.2
Dirk 2006 WCF (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/1717/stats/shooting/?Season=2005-06&SeasonType=Playoffs&PORound=3) ..................41.3........................... 50.0 .............................. 61.2
Melo 2007 1st Rd (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/2546/stats/shooting/?Season=2006-07&SeasonType=Playoffs&PORound=1) ...............37.5........................... 50.0 .............................. 59.1
Kobe 2008 WCF (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/977/stats/shooting/?Season=2007-08&SeasonType=Playoffs&PORound=3) .................50.0........................... 33.3............................... 63.3

Everyone shot well on jumpers against the Spurs, EXCEPT Lebron - the so the Spurs jumpshooting defense clearly wasn't prohibitive - Lebron just can't shoot.

Even 9 years later in 2016, his efficiency is among the worst in NBA outside the paint... Lebron simply CAN'T SHOOT.. When a player can't shoot, there are tons of guys that can play better than him.

Lebron had no chance in 2007 Finals

Not true - despite Lebron's 22 ppg on 35%, all 4 games were single-digit affairs, including 1-possession nail-biters in Games 3 and 4.. (edit: Game 1 was 11 pt game)

The Cavs had a great defense, but just needed a consistent volume scorer to win.

It's the mentality of a millennial.

15-20 year olds were indoctrinated with the mindset that everyone is a winner and that even losers deserve a trophy. Just look at how dumbed down video games are for them these days. Got to appease a weak minded generation somehow and if you take away their "losing is winning" philopsophy from them, they crumble under the pressures of reality.

Holy crap - so here's what we know for a fact:

Lebron teamed up with two top 5 players and then continued playing in a conference SO weak, that he's only beaten ONE THIRD of the 50-win teams that Kobe and MJ beat?

Those facts mean that making the Finals is NOT a big accomplishment

Top 5 players don't get left off the All-NBA team and miss the playoffs

Why do people act like Lebron and Kobe are the only two players in the league, and make every discussion about how they compare to each other ?

Whether or not it's an accomplishment to reach the finals has nothing to do with any particular player.

Simply ask yourself this, do teams celebrate making the finals ? The answer is clearly yes, and those celebrations have always been there, because it is an accomplishment to reach the finals.

1. Last year Lebron's Cavs, minus their second and third best players, gave the Warriors their toughest post-season series.

2. Swap rosters with Curry in that series, and Lebron would have won another ring (and FMVP.)
