View Full Version : Will Steph Currys ice cold shower of 3s, and ball handling ability cause shrinkage?

With this trend he's starting will we see the 4 and 5 position shrink?

I imagine a team with the tallest player being 6'7 or 8 playing like Rodman/Curry, with the shortest being 6'5. Not all being rediculous and on par with his dribbling/shooting, but respectable enough with better length and athleticism. Imagine those types of players moving the ball around like the Spurs/warriors, or playing with the pace of the 00s Suns, or 60s/70s teams. With players like the Greek freak, or Durant becoming the tallest outliers

Do you think it's still a tall vertical game, or will it become a thick horizontal game?

Can easily see a bunch of 6'2 strongmen who can all deadlift 800 pounds, and pull up on a dime from half court become the trend also. You never know.

Halfcourt 3 pointers will be the norm. Freethrows are taken outside the 3 point line just for the lols. Goodbye big men :(

Well that's the Warriors model. Their backup point guard is the same height as their favorite option at center. When they're forced to play Brandon Rush instead of Harrison Barnes, do you even notice a difference? All that matters is being about 6'7 and able to hit 3s and move the ball and play defense.

At the same time though I think teams will find that imitating the Warriors doesn't work. Only the Warriors can do it, and not every night, and not for whole games. Teams will find that a team with a 7' guy who can shove everyone out the way, get offensive boards over people's heads, and drop the ball in the basket, will have an advantage over a team that has a bunch of short guys scrambling around chucking up 3s.

The Warriors aren't a good model. Any scout or GM would be irresponsible to expect a guy with Curry's or Green's player profile to be as good as they are.

Even with all this luck, the Warriors still have not steamrolled through a playoffs. They had a tough time last year. Barely beat the Cavs missing 2nd and 3rd best players. Nothing like the dominance of the 2000 Lakers in the post season, which had a big man.

If they win the title this year and lose only 2 or 3 playoff games, then I'll be ready to say the game has changed.

And please don't forget... the Warriors have 2 starter-quality centers. And when they lost one, they went out and got another one, Varejao (not starter quality but decent when healthy). The Warriors aren't totally abandoning old models, either. They know they're not beating Aldridge and Duncan with Draymond Green at Center.

If Curry played on the 95 Bulls , he probably wouldn't even get the ball.
Probably deep on the bench or towel waver. :pimp:

The KG big man is the coveted player.

The NBA had a period where the Shareef Abdul Raheems of the world were dominating but the ability to have lengthy 4's that can switch and shoot are more important than ever.

Chris Webber could bang in the post but used to struggle against real strong frontcourts. Imagine him in todays spacing game.
