Did anyone even know about this? The great ESPN series will tell the story of the 90s' Shaq and Penny Orlando Magic.

Premiers tomorrow night. Should be a good one.

I saw it advertise 4-5 days ago. I plan to watch it becuase I'm interested in what exactly happened in Orlando because players are notorious for leaving there and what happened exactly between Shaq and Penny who could've been an awesome duo for a decade.

I hope they replay it because I won't get home until after 9pm. I was a Penny fan.

Real cool watch so far. Shaq's arrival was riiiight on the cusp of when I began obsessing over the NBA (1993).

Oh, and I just saw an Shaq dunk on Olajuwon I'm not sure I've ever seen.

**** I got it paused till after the debate. I heard Shaq is co-producing this which is straight up bad news.

The '93 Draft was the first one I ever remember, and I obsessed over it because I was a Michigan and Fab Five guy. Went crazy at the notion of Webber playing alongside Shaq.

Had no idea who Penny Hardaway was.

bigkingsfan
04-14-2016, 09:32 PM
Any team would have chosen Webber 10/10 times in that situation. LOL Bradley :lol

Didn't even know he choked on the inbound assignment.I was wondering about Penny's comments there because it actually looked like Nick Anderson was clearly stepping over the sideline but the official just didn't call it. He may have been a little late to do so though, so maybe that was the issue.

bigkingsfan
04-14-2016, 10:48 PM
They only had Shaq and his agent told his side of the story on the contract negotiation? If they offer him 4 years 80, why wouldn't they do 7, 121 million for a young superstar? :confusedshrug:

Really strange time in collective bargaining with rookies gaining unrestricted free agency immediately following their first deal.

Kind of bizarre that O'Neal cited a reader poll in a newspaper as part of the reason he left. $100 million was an insane amount of money at that point, the types of readers who'd vote about something like that at that point... probably aren't going to be a great indicator.

Shaq should have at least told him..that wasn't cool. Penny was a good dude and great player for those few years. He just got a bad deal with the injuries.

Makes you wonder what could've been. If Shaq stayed maybe Penny wouldn't of pushed himself so hard to where his knees broke down. I watched Penny's last season in Orlando and it was hard to watch. A player with so much promise just sapped of everything because of injury.

Then it doesn't end. They chased Grant Hill and Tim Duncan and Tracy McGrady. Landed a stun in McGrady, but Hill just never recovered from his foot injury fully and was sapped of a Hall of Fame all-time career. Then the Magic get Dwight Howard and he jets and leaves the Magic too.

It honestly makes me wonder how good Shaq would've bene if he stayed in shape. He was overweight almost all his years after his Orlando days. Don't get me wrong, he was dominate and could take anyone in the paint. Put I prefer the more nimble gazelle Orlando Shaq.

Phil Jackson is the X Factor of why those teams won anything. He knew how to tame their egos. Without Phil Jackson the team would've fallen out a lot quicker than it did.

Ya the ego of shaq and Kobe could only be handled by the zen master. Without him I can picture Utah Jazz,Portland , Spurs , Kings would of had better chances back then.

I wouldn't say overweight but he wasn't in tip top shape. I think if he had been more dedicated, he probably wins a couple more regular season mvps and rings. But you can still argue that he was the MDE for a stretch. If he got within 5 feet of the basket, it was a dunk. And you can't say that about any other player in history.

Better chances, Portland was a quarter away from meeting the Pacers in the Finals. And the Kings were a Vlade Divac lose ball tap away from meeting the Nets in the Finals.

Just watched it on ESPN2. I liked it, but it wasn't as great as Bad Boys for instance. Not the same intensity. Though of course, this team is one of the greatest what ifs.

As a fellow Laker hater, I agree. And even then, they needed that perfect window from 00-02. It was right after the Bulls dynasty and 99 Spurs, and before the 02-03 Spurs re-boot and the return of the 313 to the top of the NBA after 14 years.

In that three-year window, you had a pretty weak Eastern Conference, a Spur team that seemed to go down a few pegs after their lockout title, and two really talented challengers out West in the 2000 Blazers and 02 Kings that didn't really have that much heart when it came down to it.

Yeah hearing Shaq co-produced this really just kind of dampened my mood on this thing. We're definitely not getting the entire truth.

You're in denial, little boy.

The Magic handled the Shaq situation atrociously.

It's all laid out in the documentary in black and white:

1) They botched the situation with Shaq missing time due to his grandmother dying. Alienated Shaq and threw him under the bus. The contradicting stories from within the organization about the situation made them look like amateurs.

2) They low-balled him in their first two offers. It wasn't until AFTER Jerry West offered him the $120 million that the Orlando matched the offer (imagine a franchise doing that nowadays in free agency with a generational talent like Shaq. You come with that offer the minute free agency starts)

Obviously Shaq has a fragile ego, but thats the freaking point. You don't mess around with that and get cute trying to lowball your prized superstar.

That's why guys like Jerry West and Mitch Kupchak are playing chess, while the Magic's front office are retards barely able to color inside the lines with a crayon.

The inbred Floridian fans didn't help either with their retarded polls and entitled attitudes.

Magic organization and fans stay losing for life. Nothing will ever change.

What I found interesting was that not only did the fans turn on Shaq with that ridiculous poll, they pretty much did the same to Penny years later which led to him signing with Phoenix.

It was clear that Penny was still bothered by that. You give your all to a city and a franchise and they shyt all over him.

Fat Shaq was able to beastmode over triple teams better than Inshape Shaq was.

People hate on fat Shaq but he was brutally effective and got the job done.

Shaq was MDE during his peak fat years, not during his slim years.
