Correct me if I'm wrong but Phil Jackson said Kobe had better work ethic, which is saying something. I have to look for the interview.

Peak work ethic: Jordan
Overall work ethic: Kobe

Jordan's work ethic was driven mainly by his competitiveness to others. That is why he worked so hard to be the greatest of all time. Once there, he still work harder than most, but not as extreme as before. There are other things that fueled his competitiveness.

Kobe's work ethic was driven by his love for the game and perfectionist personality. This is why he constantly work harder than everyone. Because he enjoys and demand it from himself. It might or might not be to his detriment because there is such a thing as overworking yourself.

There are people who worked 20 hours a day to get to the top. Once there, they started "only" working 14 hours a day which is still more than most people put in. This is Jordan.

There are also people who constantly worked 17 hours a day and still think it's too little. They constantly think about their job, even in their sleep. It consumes them. This is Kobe.

I think they both go to Kobe.
I mean, to be honest Kobe partook in activities to make him a better basketball player. He also lived and breathed basketball.
Jordan was just more naturally gifted. He partook in gambling and retiring. Not great attributes to great work ethics. Not to say he didn't work hard. It wasn't as much of a passion as it was to Kobe.

I'll take Phil Jackson opinion on this over anyone else he coached both for long time during their primes and he says Kobe work ethic went beyond Jordan so Kobe is choice here. Kobe has GOAT work ethic in any sport never seen athlete more driven to obsession level to outwork everyone 24/7 he made basketball his life.

How could someone work 17-20 hours a day and get so little sleep without it negatively affecting one's health?

Well said. Jordan had more things he enjoyed doing outside basketball like golfing, gambling, smoking cigars and was competivnes in everything he did always wanted to beat you no matter what it was. Kobe only cared about basketball 24/7 nothing else really else matters to him outside basketball unlike Jordan.

yea man, jordan got by more so on physical gifts. I also remember reading that MJ wasnt very handy with tools or chores and that his pops used to constantly dog him for it.. tell him to go inside and do work with the women. james jordan was a cold mfer. so jordan had an inferiority complex where he had to always win, whatever it was.

Kobe just loved basketball and wanted to be the best and worked at that mostly.

Kobe. MJ had way more natural gifts similar to LeBron than Kobe ever did.

Kobe always wanted to be remembered as the ***** that did the most with the least talent. I mean this is pretty true when u compare him to other greats.

Only Bird would be not as naturally gifted as Kobe. everyone else are either 7 foot bigmen or freak specimens like lebron/jordan/Magic.

It's an analogy

Jordan's body changed more over his career in a clearly basketball related way. i'd have a hard time to saying him.

Kobe might have worked longer...and the word "harder" is meaningless. Jordan worked better at changing himself. Everything else is kinda subjective to the point of impossible to discuss.

Other than hand size....the two are pretty darn similar physically.

Exactly. Jordan succeeded on pure ferocious competitiveness and talent. Kobe was notoriously known as a gym rat.

Kobe and jordan? Jordan is a more athletic version of Kobe in every way tho. and big hands is a very big factor in basketball.

Jordan was a huge gym rat. Just as notoriously known for it as anyone ever.

Kobe is described as a no life "nerd" in a sense. dude hits the gym/court then watches game tapes for hours. no different then going to class then hitting the books after school.

I would say Jordan was more coordinated and at their athletic peak, faster end to end.
And while Kobe was very explosive, I would say Jordan edges him there.
I'm talking Jordan pre 30 years old.

No way to actually prove either way I would say.

P-Jax was documented saying it. And lifestyle choices would also give it away too. A guy who would retire in his prime is a telltale sign of boredom. Which would relate to not as much commitment to bettering himself.

If you think Kobe only plays and watches bball, you have bought the hype.

He would also spend time with family, has interests in other sports, and probably has other interests we don't know about.

He isn't a super hero in a movie, despite what Nike or the NBA would market.

This

Kobetards thinks Kobe is a good. If Kobe had a great work ethic. He would have been as good as MJ.

Kobe missed the playoffs twice during the prime of his NBA Career.

No he said Kobe had a better attitude towards training than Jordan, and that Jordan would disagree.

I get the feeling you aren't well versed on Jordan's career. He retired to become a baseballer in his father's honour, and to challenge himself.

Actually I'm pretty well versed. I'm just unbiased.
If a sport is one's passion then one would commit to it his whole career. You don't quit the sport you love to honor your dad. Especially when you're on top. That's a sign of non commitment, not something sentimental. In the real world you call them transients.
It actually sounds like you have a Jordan bias.

I watched both players whole career's....

Jordan seemed to be " stronger" ....I guess it's the simplest way to put it.

I don't mean Jordan could bench press more then Kobe....Jordan seemed to get more elevation on his jumper....and take contact better. Jordan at ages 19 - 26 years could just elevate with coordination like no one I have ever seen.

combine those two attributes....and it made him slightly more dominant...

that is not really a Knock on Kobe..Kobe was an amazing athlete and gifted strength and coordination......Jordan was perhaps the most physically gifted athlete ever...I'm talking about the 1% of elite athletes EVER!!!!!

If MJ was 100% pure athlete....Kobe is somewhere in the 88% area.....still amazing.

with that being said.....I think Kobe put in more work....to maintain and elevate his game.
