View Full Version : Dissapointed in Irving

last year and the year before this kid showed he was dynamite.
Lets look at why...
1. Rookie MVP in the allstar rookie game hits 8/8 from 3s. I thought he was clutch shit
2. ALL-STAR MVP - hits clutch shots and wins the all-star game...
3. FIBA MVP - Originally coming off the bench he does better than all the others including curry and harden
4. Scores 50+ multiple times and smashing Spurs double teams to score 57
5. Showed that he has a wet 3pt jumper and unlike Steph, could drive and score at the rim at will..
I had a good feeling this kid could be top player in the league as he was basically a Steph Curry with the best layup in the league (before this year obviously...). However he was frozen up like all hell...What happened huh?
This kid was meant to be Dwade with a automatic 3pt shot and the most clutch player in the league. Did Lebron mess him up or something?

He's had some surgeries and injuries that would greatly affect any player. He's gotten better physically and I don't think you will see Kyrie's absolute prime for another year.
The injury he had usually takes a full season or season and a half to recover.
It's called injuries. It happens. It's why you cant predict multiple championships.
Also he was never that good lol. Dude would lead the Cavs straight to the lottery.

Op must have forgotten that Irving just came off a serious injury. It seems that idiots on this forum do that a lot. I remember people few months ago asking what happened to ibaka, he hasn't been the same guy from few years ago. Yeah, no shit he had injuries in 2014 and had a knee operation done. I guess posters think these nba players are robots

Ever heard of this thing called "Bran ball?" It's where you're diminished in order to prop up a lie.

How does a guy that's never been that good win FIBA MVP on a team full of all stars and future Hall of famers, put up 57 on the defending champs, have the two highest scoring games of the season, win a 3 point shooting contest and an all star MVP?
He'd lead a team that had dion waiters as the second scoring option to nearly making the playoffs. That's an accomplishment in itself. The cavs teams that Kyrie was on were some of the worst teams of all time

He's always been a super overrated player. Kevin Love is a glorified role player and LeBron is over the hill. Cavs will never win a chip yo.

Injuries are obviously a big reason why he's regressed a little bit.
Having said that, he needs to learn to play more in a team concept. Still way too much hero ball.

Irving simply wants more shine right now.
He never got the time that D-Wade had to shine on his own and lead a team to the playoffs. I don't know that he's even good enough to do what Wade did but he never really had the opportunity. He doesn't want to simply be a piece of a championship team. He wants to be the man. Every young highly drafted player wants that. His ego is messing with his head right now.

Lue has been pulling him early and putting Delly in to run with the starters more. That way when Ky comes back in he is playing the lead on the 2nd unit.
If you look at all the best Cavs Units Ky isn't even on them.
I hope he recovers more this offseason because he has been pretty terrible this year. Anytime a young star regresses like this its really scary in that DRose/Penny/GHill, etc have all had careers devastated by injury.
Every time I think of Irving's "star" status I am reminded of this Bill Simmons tweet (https://twitter.com/billsimmons/status/405132004670185472) from a few years ago. That tweet may have been somewhat harsh, but I honestly have not seen much about his game that resembles "winning" basketball.

Another victim of Bron Ball
Yet his stans will scream NO HALP
People forget just how dominant this cat was. All star starter, household name, but yet he has turned into a below average PG starter in todays league since Bron came
That says a lot

Yea, because playing on a team in which dion waiters is the second best offensive player yields winning ball.

doesn't have shit to do with Bron ball or his injuries. He's to much worried about his brand and is becoming a me player. He takes way to many jumpers instead of attacking the rim like he use to and he over dribble the ball to hell. His passing IQ and vision seems to get horrible each year too.

Hopefully they get away from him before really serious injuries. We'll see them stand out again, unlike Wade who was a shell of his former self by the time LeBron left.

Lebron, Lebron, Lebron...always Lebron.
With Wade at least there is a case to be made that his career lost momentum when he became a #2.
These other dudes?
Bosh, Kyrie, and Love combine...for 3 playoffs wins in 17 seasons played without Lebron.
3 wins. Not series wins. Games. In 17 years.
Not much there to ruin.
Calling Lebron out for ruining players who had nothing going on but good numbers on bad teams? Countless players have had good numbers and given them up for a chance to win more....and come out ahead in history as all 3 of them well may. Bosh sure did. Hes a 2 time champion and was far more well known on the Heat than on the Raptors. Kevin Love was called out weekly for empty stats for years. Kyrie was flashy and had people waiting for him to develop as a leader and team player.
Bill Cartwright was an all star early in his career on the Knicks and as late as 87 was still an 18/8 player. Ron Harper wasnt an all star but he wasnt far off on the Cavs...and after injuries slowed him for a while he recovered nicely. He had regained his form on the Clippers. He put up 20/6/5 in 94 for the Clippers. He was hanging 35-40 on teams. Had 30/9/8 his last full game on the Clippers. Then became a 6ppg combo guard on the Bulls.
These days next to nobody remembers either of them as anything but role players on great teams.
They wouldnt be known at all in their previous roles. Maybe a few old heads remember Ron from the Cavs. You never ever ever hear about Bill Cartwright on the Knicks.
Hard to say they lost out by playing their parts on much better teams.
And unlike them...Bosh, Love, and Kyrie are still well known players and stars.
These guys on max deals and competiting for rings.
All they lose is numbers. And Kyrie is barely losing that. His minutes are down because of his injury but really....hes shooting more per minute than he ever has. You dont put up 20 a game in 31 minutes by not getting the ball.
History looks far more kindly on guys like James Worthy and Robert Parish than Kiki Vandeweghe and Spencer Haywood.
Spending your prime doing numbers on teams nobody cares about may feed your ego for a time...but its gets you forgotten.
