View Full Version : Harden is the most confusing player of all time

Dude put up 29/6/7.5 for the year which are all time great numbers.

And the last half of the season he averaged 30.6 points, 6.5 Rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.9 steals on 45.9/39.0/86.3 (61.8% TS).

Seriously those numbers are Kobe/DWade/Lebron numbers, yet this guy is still a clown.

I can't understand his game and attitude yet somehow he puts up crazy numbers.

MAN OKC was stacked as hell in 2010-2012.

He dominates the ball too much

He also led the league in TO's, setting an NBA record. He also plays ZERO defense. He also has ZERO leadership skills.

Now, I'm not saying Harden isn't a talented offensive player, but when evaluating his number totals, I think we also need to consider that he plays 38MPG and has the 3rd highest Usage Rate in the league. If you have the ball in your hands on every possession, you're going to accumulate a lot of raw stats.

He is a product of exploiting the rules, refs and flopping. In the playoffs when refs don't give him the same soft BS calls, he is a shitty player.

He is a better version of post 2010 Kobe, chitty defence, poor leadership but puts up good ppg.

He's like Bron dude.

Holds on to the ball for 20 seconds then passes or shots. The recipient of the pass MUST shoot.

If he makes it, assist. If he bricks, no harm for Lebron

He's got great offensive skills...no doubt.

But he's the biggest ball hog in the NBA who only plays on one side of the floor. He might be the worst defender in the entire league. Watch him in any game...he barely moves around on D.

Turns over the ball at a ridiculous rate. He gets assists purely on kick outs when he drives or long passes in transition. You'll never ever see him swing the ball around.

He is the PURE definition of someone who gets his at the expense of his team. Yeah, sure he can win games all by himself...he is THAT good on offense...but he can't win consistently like that because he shuts everyone else out. The team lives or dies by him and that's never a good thing.

This. Harden is better all around though. I don't care what anyone says, LeBald is one of the worst defenders ive ever seen.

I think the main points have been covered (turnover machine, terrible defense, too ball dominant, etc....) but he also doesn't seem to have the competitive drive that it takes to be a truly elite player. I don't see the fire in him that most all-time greats have. I'm not saying he doesn't care about winning and you can't play at this level without being a good competitor, but that's just the vibe he gives off (to me at least).

He gets trashed a lot but he's a damn talented player. Part of his problem is he's never had a decent coach. Brooks and McHale were the worst type of coaches for a player like Harden. He needs a structured offensive system and a coach who can somehow get him to play defense.

What I hate about Harden the most is the defense...when he actually tried last year he was one of the better defensive guards in the league. It's amazing to see how much worse he was in 14 and this season as opposed to last season. I can't respect a player who can do something, but chooses not to because he's a lazy mother****er.

But then you also have to look at the points off his assits, historically those are super high, he kicks out mostly to 3 point shooters. The offensive rebound rate, his game lends itself to that as well. Harden is both better and worse than those stats say. I'd venture to guess net he's better overall.

Using today what I guess we'd call "simpleton" stats, PER last year in the playoffs was 24.8. Career 21.0. Hardly bad standard stats. I don't have any advanced stats for the playoffs on hand to glance at, but his regular stats are pretty darn good.

This is a solid point. The issue this year is that by pro athlete standards, harden came into the year FAT AS HELL and completely out of shape beyond just the jelly roles. I'm not sure how any fan can be ok with that.

this board is very 'what have you done for me lately'

anyone who watched basketball last year would know harden was the best player in the nba, and was voted as mvp by his peers

many thought he should have won mvp over curry - but curry's team record was just too good

I'm no fan of the guy, but his basketball skills are the results of insanely great decision making and thinking. He's not getting to the line on dumb luck, he seriously knows what he's doing and executes to perfection. Make no mistake, without the modern rules this guy adapts just fine.

Though if his plane crashed, I'm not going to get too upset either.
