Those people who have never travelled out of the city might not know this, but you can't just walk up to a wild deer. It was either sick or injured, either way the cop did the humane thing.

Correct. The deer was ill, and had been running around for quite a while.

Not sure the PC way of killing a deer, but, this method was pretty effective.

I'm sorry no one is going to pay a vet to heal and house an injured deer. Even worse it possibly had Lyme disease or Chronic Wasting Disease in which case, the more it ran around the more chance it could infect other deer or livestock.

The cop did the right thing, by killing it. However I don't know what was immediately behind the deer, it could have been very poor judgment in shot placement.
