In a league where being able to switch and guard multiple positions is the foundation for elite defensive teams, I don't think Kawhi is the most effective all-around defender.

Take Kawhi off the Spurs and they are still an elite defensive team. Take a guy like Jordan, Gobert, or DrayGod off their team, and those teams would have to completely change their defensive identity.

Kawhi is elite at switches and defending the pick and roll. He also causes a lot of turnovers.

Kawhi is an elite defender against iso players like Lebron, Durant, Melo. He has great difficulty fighting over screens and guarding small, quick/smart PGs. He does not do well guarding someone like Reddick when run off multiple screens (he had no one to guard vs LAC last playoffs). He does steal/disrupt the ball a lot because of his huge hands and wide wingspan.

How sad is the state of the league defensively that Leonard now has 2 DPOY awards and neither Bowen nor Duncan has any - that's a shame.
