2008 was his best year in terms of knowing when to get his team involved and when to take over. A very composed veteran knowing how to effectively pick apart a defense at will and truly LED his team. Its too bad he just met 3 much hungrier players in the Finals.

I'm not sure exactly what his peak year was. Kobe put up the best scoring numbers in 2005-06, but part of that was because he had to with that team, and also it was a great year for perimeter players with the rule changes and ref calls. Iverson and Lebron also put up terrific numbers that year, I think they scored their career highs also.

You could say Kobe's "prime" lasted a very long time, from the 2000-01 season to somewhere in the late 2000s or early 10s. I don't know when his "peak" was. Kobe played great during the 00-01 season and had some spectacular performances in the postseason. Game 1 of WCF against the Spurs was his best postseason performance IMO, definitely one of his greatest performances ever period when you take into account the defense he was playing against and how often he attacked the rim against Duncan and Robinson.

I have 2008 Kobe over 2006. I imagine the insane PPG is why people pick that year but I think he was just as capable of that in 2008, but played a much better overall floor game and leadership. I think 2003 was a better year than 2006 across the board as well, 7 rebounds, 6 assists. So many people get caught up in the 35ppg but that year was an explosion of offense around the league with teams adusting to the new rules. Right behind Kobes 35 was Iverson at 33( at 30 years old and on the downside of his prime),Lebron at 31 and Arenas at 29. All the big scorers put up career numbers in 2006.

He started off the 2007 season slow being a little over weight, and meager athleticism while recovering from knee surgery.

Had a huge scoring stretch, but still wasn't his best defensively, or athletically. And he didn't have a great playoffs, and the Lakers got beat even quicker v.s. the Suns then they had the season prior when it at least went 7 games.

Only Jordan did those numbers better, while being superior defensively. Or that caliber of a defender, while also being that level of an offensive weapon.

LeBron might've had a stetch from 2009 - 2013 where he was equally impactful on both ends at the highest of levels.

You're taking Kobe because of his offense and 07 was his offensive peak. He was more efficient and a better shooter than he was in 2006. A better and more willing passer. And quicker and more decisive with his moves. Basically he was like a more refined version of his 2006 version. I just love his offensive game that season.

For me Kobe's best season was the season he ruptured his Achiles 2012-2013 - that season he had games where he caried the Lakers to the postseason alone, prior to his season ending injury he played some of the best basketball of his career playing the full 48 minutes and although there is no direct relation to this type of injury I am sure that him playing almost all the minutes prior to that had attributed to it.
