Also Phoenix and Chicago.

“I never would’ve approved it. Never. The trade to go to Cleveland? Never,” Bryant told [ESPN’s Baxter] Holmes. “That wasn’t one of the teams that was on my list. It was Chicago, San Antonio [or] Phoenix.”

I knew about Chicago, but not the Spurs or Phoenix. Damn. A prime Kobe with Timmy and Pop. Spurs would've gutted their team though. Manu and Parker gone. Their offensive system required Kobe to move the ball, it's hard to visualize.

Who could blame him? Spurs are on their way to being the GOAT franchise.

Spurs have an unselfish culture and ball movement. Not sure Kobe would fit; also at his stage in his career, does not seem like he'd be to open to a new system or pointed advice from Spurs coach and staff.

He made all those teams irrelevant for the next 3 years, by simply staying...not to mention they themselves were irrelevant further, +3 (6 total) for the Spurs, + infinity for Chicago and Phoenix.

Pretty sure bi-curious Duncan would of loved an alpha male besides him. Get some of those Kobe posters on the side, raw, and hard.

"The Lakers did have conversations with the Bulls, but a prospective deal was believed to have gotten hung up on the inclusion of forward Luol Deng"

Oh wow, the Spurs would've had to gut their roster for Kobe though... Parker, Ginobili are probably gone. Who else do they have playing PG? Does Fisher get involved in the trade somehow? The Spurs role players were pretty old by 2007-2008... while the Lakers had guys like Ariza, Odom, Fisher and Bynum.

But then you have to consider how much better was Duncan compared to Gasol at that point in their careers. Gasol averaged like 19/8 on 60% FG since going to LA... was Duncan THAT much better than Gasol?

How would Duncan do against KG in the finals?

Meh.

I'm glad LA was able to put the right pieces around Kobe, and he was able to get two more rings in LA. I honestly don't think Kobe to Chicago, San Antonio or wherever else gets any better results.
