[QUOTE]Will the anti-cop Left please figure out what it wants? For more than a decade, activists have demanded the end of proactive policing, claiming that it was racist. Pedestrian stops

While I agree with this, stop and frisk in NYC was an extremely racist policy, or at least how it was enforced.

Any policy that uses statistics and past precedent as its driving force will be seen as racist though.

In what way exactly was it racist?

I knew this was going to be Heather MacDonald article.
This is in no way "solid."
Cheers.

Just look at the drug arrests for blacks vs whites. Or talk to any of the NYPD officers I know.

Ppl like the OP and the guy below must be retarded. The reason for the uproar is for police to stop killing individuals in situations which can be deescalated. Not to detach themselves from their job responsibilities that they're being payed for.

The black community needs to choose its battles more wisely. If they're going to cry 'racism' and sue the government after every conflict involving a black person and a non-black person, then this is going to be the result. Humans are increasingly risk adverse, and trying to arrest and/or prosecute black criminals is becoming more risky because of the consistent, public backlash. At some point, regardless of what a cops job delegates, that person is going to internally weigh the risk and reward of entering conflicts with black suspects.

This.
Couple of weeks back in my neck of the woods there was a gun battle in the parking lot of a park during a little league game. Kids, parents and coaches were terrified, hit the deck etc. Cops were called, no-one got hurt, took dudes into custody, all's well that ends well.
Anyway, then they interviewed the league director (black dude, park was in a black community) and dude was all "The cops don't do their jobs, they don't patrol enough, we have problems with gangs and the cops do nothing", basically just bagged on the cops.
At this point I don't think the cops can win. Some clown who has all the answers is always gonna play Monday morning quarterback and tell you exactly what the cops didn't do right, what they should have done and how they should be doing this and that. I think being a cop is basically an impossible job nowadays. You try and take pro-active, aggressive measures to suppress crime and you are deemed racist, you don't and people will say you aren't doing your job. No win situation.

Stop and frisk wasn't about drugs, it was about illegal gun possession. And blacks were actually UNDER-represented in the numbers stopped and frisked relative to the percentage of gun crime committed by blacks.
The majority of gun crime in New York is committed by blacks. You shouldn't find it odd that the majority of people being suspected of illegal gun possession are black. That's not "racism". The cops don't choose who commits the crimes.

thank you...this 100%. and btw, im not black but i am a minority. when i was growing up, there were alot of asian gangs starting shit. if cops saw a car with 2 or more asian males, we would get pulled over. yes, it was profiling, but u know what? it was totally justified, bc believe me, if you were in a car with a few adolescent asians at 2 am you were up to no good. the stop and frisks were 100% justified. the times they caught something on my boys, u better believe they were guilty
