View Full Version : I hate to say it: the weakest NBA champions were

Duderonomy

The 2008 Boston Celtics

The 8th seed Hawks took them to 7 games.

A weaker Lebron lead crew took them to 7 games

Beat the Pistons in 6 games (the last conference finals appearance for them, bounces in first round the next season)

Beat the Lakers in 6. The Lakers were without Bynum (then their 3rd or 4th option) and blew a yughhhh game 4 lead. Not to mention Kobe had an injuried finger that post season he played through.

Kobe had an injuried finger that post season he played through.

I like how Kobe/Laker fans always bring up injuries, but ignore them for other teams/players.

Celtics had an injured Perkins in 2009. Two can play this game fgt.

The Celtics were pushed in those first two series because they didn't take the Hawks seriously and then Ray Allen was complete garbage in the Cavs series because he was distracted by his kid being ill. They were even better in 2009 and would have repeated if not for Big Kev going down with the knee. They had the best record in the league (in a season where the Lakers won 65 games) before he did go down.

If Bynum and Ariza are healthy, that "Big 3" Celtics team doesn't sniff a single title. It only went to 7 games in 2010 because Kobe and Bynum were both playing on one knee and Kobe had about 4 broken fingers.

The 08 Celtics are the most overrated NBA team in the modern era.

lol...the Celtics would destroyed the Lakers in 09 if not for Kevin Garnett hurting his knee. The Magic needed 7 games just to beat them without their best player.

No they wouldn't, for sure they wouldn't have "destroyed" the Lakers. They lost in 2010, just a year after, can you explain that?

Kendrick Perkins should of been the finals mvp in 2008 in that case, he's what pushes them over the hump and made them a championship team.

He had 1 game with at least 10 rebounds, the rest were all below 7 rebounds. 0 blocks in the entire series, only 2 games where he scored more than 7 points. What a beast

Ohhh yes, his defense!! All 0 blocks and the 1 steal he had in game 1 of the series, how could I forget!

Rasheed Wallace filled in just fine for him, please stop acting like Perkins being out for game 7 changed the outcome of the series.

Andrew Bynum had 2 points in game 7, Perkins historic defense was not needed.

Oh, ABSOLUTELY. He really proved that once he moved to OKC, right? Or is that the exact moment when he stopped being valuable? You know, cause KG wasn't his front court partner anymore?

I'll praise Rondo, Ray, Pierce, KG all day for being great Celtics players and bringing it to my Lakers, one of the best NBA series I've witnessed and am thankful to have had my own taste of LA vs. Boston blood.

But to even begin arguing that the Celtics would have WON THE SERIES only had Perkins been in the game? Get the **** out my face, dude is on the same level of greatness as Joel Anthony.

Gasol shot 38% and Bynum shot 20% in game 7 even though the defensive juggernaut Perkins was MIA.

Explain how that is possible, and what Perkins would have added to that.

Give me some vids of this great Kendrick Perkins defense. NOT KG vids mind you, I wanna see the great Kendrick Perkins.

Let's just not count this Lakers championship, add it to the Celtics record. Perkins most definitely should be named new FMVP, bringing Kobe's count to 1 fmvp and 4 championships.

Bynum had like 3 knee injuries and multiple surgeries before his career ever really got going, after all those surgeries he had his best season in 2012 averaging 19/12. All it took to off Perk was 1 surgery?

You hear that, Drose? Livingston? Blake Griffin? 1 knee surgery and you are OUT.

Perk had the great opportunity to play with the big 3, which definitely made him look better than he was. There is a reason why this dude is a laughing stock now, setting screens on ghosts.

Although it always tastes of fecal matter for me to even utter 'Boston Celtics', I'm just going to say it; they were easily the best team in the league in 2008. They deserved to win that title.

Even though the Lakers played well enough to make it to the finals that year, I still feel like they were mentally not ready to win it all. It took being embarrassed in 2008 to instill the mental toughness necessary for them to persevere in 2009 and 2010.

Crying about injuries is for p*****s. Right up there with crying about the referees. It's part of the game. Put your big boy pants on and battle until you can battle no more. Let the 'chips' fall where they may.

2009 and 2010 Lakers. 2009 Lakers got by Houston simply because of Yao's injury, then matched up against the Magic who got to pass by an imploding Cavs and an injured Celtics. Duncan was not himself and Spurs were looking done out west, while the Suns had unraveled. The Hornets were sadly one of the best west teams that year. Lakers were the only contender with prime players that weren't injured. 2010 Lakers were not much different.

The 00-02 Lakers have to be in this discussion. They dominated a flawed league. They benefited from chokers in the Blazers and Kings, the East was very weak, and they only had two players and a collection of stiffs.

When SA had their 2002-03 re-boot, and when they ran into the 313 in the 2004 finals, their little run was over.

Not around here we don't and I say that with absolute certainty. We're salty about the loss because who the hell wouldn't be salty about losing a title when you're 12 minutes away from one?? But no one here thinks we deserved to win it that year. No one. Not one real Celtic fan on this board. That was an epic chokejob and Celtics had no one to blame but themselves for it and we've pretty much accepted that.

Kobe haters, not Celtics fans, are the only ones I've seen come in here spouting off nonsense about officiating in game 7 because that's what they do...hate on everything Kobe does.
