I told you, bro.
I've listened to it about 100 times in two days.
It's a shame it took him dying for me to find this MASTERPIECE.

I don't like comparing the two.
But do you realize Prince was a master guitar player, played 27 instruments, wrote and produced most of his music, etc?
And I prefer Prince's voice.
MJ was the more entertaining dancer, though.

Who is better?
He's easily the best guitarist in my mind.
Truly a versatile genius.
Not to mention he pulled dime pieces on the regular, I like MJ too but he squandered the greatest potential in that regard, how are you going to sleep with boys when you have models lined up and ready? What a shame.

MJ was manufacturered into the pop star he was.

Agreed. Those are Michael's two best albums which are comparable to 1999 and Purple Rain. However Bad doesn't hold a candle to Sign o' the times.

Lol at manufactured. The Jacksons (along with Mike) were damn near dropped from Epic Records after their 2nd album for their new label flopped in 1977.

Off The Wall was a great album, but it wasn't Michael's peak. Not even close. Thriller was easily his best, followed by Bad.
His albums after Bad, like Dangerous and HIStory were good too. MJ's last album, Invincible, was pretty good too imo. It's not as popular as his other albums because Sony didn't promote it. Still sold 10 million copies.

Uhhhh nope. Michael had talent from the very beginning. Name another kid who had the ability to SING and DANCE at his age. He performed out there like James Brown and Jackie Wilson. When he grew up he became even better. Michael had talent from the day he came out of his mother's womb. The guy was ****ing fantastic

No, MJ was a way better entertainer and by a longshot. More dance moves, perfect choreography, knew how to dance to his songs in the best way possible, and every state effect was on point. MJ knew how to put on a show. You must be one of those dudes born in the 40s/50s if you think Elvis was a better entertainer

Gonna have to cast my vote for MJ
I honestly don't know $hit about Prince... or his music.
I think I know maybe 2 songs of Prince's off the top of my head...
Purple Rain, and 1999.
I know an endless amount of MJ songs...
But both musicians were conspiracy theorists/ activists towards the end
of their lives... so I give props to both... but MJ was clearly better (and innocent)

I'm a pretty big MJ fan. Also, I know for a fact more people are connected to Michael than to Prince. He's easily the most well-known and probably one of the most influential artists to ever live.

They were both overrated. MJ probably put out better work harmonically/structurally though, but that's mainly due to Quincy Jones.

What was Prince better at?
Def not singing, dancing or entertaining.
Dancing, sure.
Singing? Arguable.
Entertaining? It depends on preference.
Prince was easily a more accomplished musician. His shows were incredible and his overall talent to me surpasses MJ's pretty easily. He produced his own music and played so many diff. instruments. His shows were spectacular and although I do prefer MJ's voice, many would disagree. The only thing MJ was better at is dancing, he was also more popular because his talents were more mainstream.
It's amazing how many people don't give a shit that Prince could produce his own music and could play over 20 instruments. To me, that surpasses him as an artist. The gap that MJ has on Prince in singing and dancing doesn't make him the better artist. Success doesn't make someone better, if it did we can consider Bieber better than Prince too.
I've been to Prince's show in my lifetime, only Pink Floyd put on a better show. I don't think MJ had that same ability to choreograph his shows the way Prince did. He was extremely good at marketing his brand and also very artist in the way he entertained his fans.
With that said, I think I do like more of MJ's music but as an overall artist it has to be Prince.

Many artists can "Produce" their own music if you really under stood what "Producing" a record means.
" Prince played over 27 instruments " is complete bs/ hype.
Prince played Keyboards , Guitar(bass) & drums.
This nonsense with Moog synthesizer, organ Piano, Clavicord, harpsicord, etc......are all Keyboards & not shocking that one can play the other.
Like getting excited that John Coltrane can play the Clarinet, Oboe & various Saxophones. I'm sure Coltrane can play most all Reed instruments.

He plays 7 instruments, how many instruments are there really? Him being able to play various different branches of instruments still takes time to learn. It's rediculous that you're there acting like that isn't impressive and is a testament to how great of a MUSICIAN Prince was. He plays 27 total instruments.
It's hilarious how you write off his talent as if it's so easy to learn to play two different keyboards or two different guitars etc.
For your record; Harmonica, Percussion, Synthesizer, Drums, Organs, Keyboard/Piano, Bass Guitar & Guitar.
If you're seriously going to sit there and tell me that's not impressive, considering he plays these instruments on his SHOWS, so he has mastered these instruments, than you're in denial.

According to academia MJ' was proficient at only 1 instrument ( voice), but it doesnt prevent he & Smokey Robinson( another who plays no instruments proficiently) being 2 of the greatest popular Songwriters/ Musicians of all time.
I'll apologize for the little guy being BUSY fronting the best selling boy band ever at the time , touring the world making millions , spending hours in a studio , tutoring for school , voice over syndicated cartoon , television show ,Vegas Act, etc....all before 15 .
Meanwhile Randy Jackson was at home & he learned to be extremely proficient at many instruments.
MJ' & Smokey are >>>>>>>>>>musicians than Randy & the vast majority those spending hours in their parents basement learning an instrument.
Don't get 'instrumentalist' & musician confused.
Don't get 'instrumentalist' & musician confused.
Meh, I'm not buying it. Any true musician will yearn to express themselves through instruments. And you can learn enough guitar or piano to express yourself musically in like a week.
Everything I've seen from MJ makes it seem like he was way more into making the perfect dance routine, fixing his nose and getting the right jewelry to glue on his gloves than he was into musicianship.
He's a pure performer at heart, doesn't have a musician's soul like Prince does. That doesn't mean MJ didn't have lots of natural talent for music though. he clearly does. Lots of super talented people don't necessarily have the ultimate passion for what they do.

35 Years is basically since the beginning of the 1980s. So that takes Bowie and Dylan out of the equation McCartney basically too. Bono, eh. Boss. I Think he's right below Prince and Jackson.
If I would have said 50 years, that's a whole different discussion.

Point well taken on the " Performer" mentality of MJ. Don't forget the " iced out" socks.
He came from a culture at Motown in which Lead singers/ Performers were the stars & never became seriously interested in learning an instrument.
Aretha Franklin has played piano since age 5 , but she cannot " write" like Smokey or MJ' who have never attempted to play an instrument publicly .
How competent do you have to be at an instrument to get real respect as a " musician"?
Duke Ellington, Willie " The Lion" Smith , Fats Waller , Art Tatum & other Jazz pianists would mock Prince Keyboard abilities.
I just think "musician" is a broad term that people limit to " instrumentalist".

If not for Purple Rain Prince would be compared to his idol Sly Stone.
The comparisons would be Rick James ( who was more popular than Prince before Purple Rain) & Sly Stone especially.
Stone was the template to Princes career although Stone was not the Performer Prince was.
