View Full Version : MYTH that Lebron has cakewalks to the finals (BUSTED)

2007 - Had one of the weakest supporting casts ever... beat a Detroit team that won 64 games the year before

2011 - Beat a great Celtics team, and league best record Bulls squad with the best defense and MVP

2012 - Bosh got injured 1st game of the 2nd round... Wade's knee problems began to emerge... Came back from a 2-1 deficit and beat Indiana in 6... Took legendary performances from Lebron and Wade with no Bosh... Went 7 games with the same great celtics team, coming from 3-2 down, we all know about game 6 and 7. Probably the most pressure an NBA player has ever had... That was it right there... The legacy... The miami big three... All on the line, game 6, in their house... We all know how that series ended (Bosh didn't return until the last few games... and all he could really do was spot up... still injured)

2013 - INTENSE 5 game series with Chicago, coming from 1-0 down to win. 7 game series BATTLE with Indiana.. All the way down to the final game

2014 - 2nd round against Brooklyn was one of those close series that could have easily gone the distance. Every game down to the wire. It took some great performances from Lebron and co., including that 49 point masterpiece in Brooklyn. All this being done with a diminished Dwyane Wade... Followed by a 6 game series with Indiana... The top seed.

2015 - Do I even need to go over this one? First round was a close contest every game in the sweep. Love out for the rest of the playoffs. Kyrie is injured early in the 2nd round against Chicago... Lebron has about 10 different injuries. Shump is banged up... Chicago are 2-1 up, AND up DOUBLE DIGITS in the 3rd quarter of game 4... Finally Chicago had the upper hand. Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler, Joakim Noah, Pau Gasol! But we all know what happened. The rest was history. LBJ took over. wins in 6. He then goes and SWEEPS a 60 win 1st seed team. How many times has that happened in a conference finals? How about without your 2nd and 3rd best players? Wow.

2007: 4 losses in conference playoffs
2011: 3 losses in conference playoffs
2012: 6 losses in conference playoffs
2013: 4 losses in conference playoffs
2014: 3 losses in conference playoffs
2015: 2 losses in conference playoffs

22 losses

3.67 losses in conference playoffs average for finals appearance years

Lets compare that to Kobe

2000: 6 losses in conference playoffs
2001: 0 losses in conference playoffs
2002: 4 losses in conference playoffs
2004: 5 losses in conference playoffs
2008: 3 losses in conference playoffs
2009: 6 losses in conference playoffs
2010: 4 losses in conference playoffs

28 losses

4 losses in conference playoffs average for finals appearance years

//

So what we notice is, on average Kobe has lost slightly more games in the conference playoffs... But he has a greater spread, meaning in individuals years he's had 2 separate occasions where he has had 6 losses, and also an occasion where he lost 0 games in the conference playoffs.

Does this mean Kobe has had it tougher? Not so fast. You have to account for context and personnel.

Kobe was 2nd fiddle to Shaq, absolute stacked squads. They often played down to competition, losing games they shouldn't. This is really only applicable to Miami in 2013.. They won 66 games and went 7 with Indiana.

They also lost more games in the first round to lesser teams than Cleveland/Miami Lebrons, but didn't lose as much in the conference finals round

The only explanation for this is that the Lakers were CRUISING

Even without all this realistic explanation, the difference is so minimal

Lebron has played an average of 6 games per conference final

6

7

Kobe has played an average of 6 games per conference final

7

And you must account for the freakish context of Lebron's 2015 ECF final sweep... Missing both Love and Kyrie... 2nd seed sweeps 60 win 1st seed

Kobe has swept a 1st seed too, but he never did it under the same epic circumstances, plus he was a 2nd option behind Shaq. Lebron's 2nd and 3rd options were injured, he couldn't play Kobe 2nd fiddle role even if he wanted to

So we can observe that both men play around the same amount of conference final games

And pretty much the same amount of losses in their respective conferences in finals appearance years

Kobe has faced superior teams according to regular season record, BUT he has had superior supporting casts/teams

Lebron has faced lesser teams according to regular season record, BUT he has had inferior supporting casts/teams, and more injuries (Bosh in 2012, Wade in 2013/2014, Irving in 2015, Love in 2015)

The myth has been busted

TLDR: Lebron loses 4 games on average in the east playoffs
Kobe loses 4 games on average in the west playoffs

Lebron plays 6 games per conference final
Kobe playfs 6 games per conference final

hahahah Lebron stans trying to restore their idols legacy - nothing new and therefore did not read.

Look at the east this year. 2nd seed Craptors cant even beat the 7th seeded Pacers. 3rd seed Miami Cheat get butt fvcked by Jeremy "securities dont even know who I am" Lin and 4th seed Hawks (no nickname) probably get upset by the Celtics, whos star is a 5 feet midget similiar to Nate Robinson ("Heart over height").

East is an ABSOLUTE joke right now.

Gileraver fuming as usual. I guess I'd hate LeBron too if I was a bulls fan, considering he anally penetrates them on a near annual basis :lol. I can only imagine that fakkit's reaction when LeBron hit the game winner against the Bulls in game 4 last year. Probably threw such an epic tantrum he got his TV privileges revoked

Have you ever made a post that didn't involve Lebron:facepalm

Look at the West.
The 8th seed Rockets need no explanation, and this is the same shit team that made the WCF last year.
The 7th seed is an injured Mavs team with old man Dirk as their best player.
The 6th seed is a depleted Grizzlies missing their 2 best players. They are literally signing random guys just to fill roster spots.
The 5th seed Portland lost 80% of its starters and is led by and undersized shooting gaurd (Lillard is not a real PG), whom is averaging 20 points on 37% and still is tied in the series.
The 4th seed Clippers are tied with an absolute shit team and now are missing their 2 best players.
OKC is straight iso ball and probably won't even make the Finals and holds the record for most blown leads in the 4th quarter.
Spurs are legit.
Warriors best player is currently injured.

Hold this L proudly.

I can see you've done extensive research on this.. more honest analysis ISH needs :applause:

I guess Kobetards will now make the ludicrous argument that Kobe played better than Bron during the playoffs, so he made it equal.

The number of games played or lost during a playoff run isn't necessarily indicative of the strength of the competition

Im Still Ballin
04-27-2016, 03:55 AM
Try and explain then

Whatever context you can bring up, there'll be other context to counter that

At the most objective basis, they had equally as tough roads to the playoffs

The numbers back this

And?

Kobe did have better supporting casts

He faced better teams

But the flipside is

Lebron had worse supporting casts

And faced worse teams

But both struggled as much as eachother, apparent by the amount of losses in the conference, especially the conference finals

Im Still Ballin
04-27-2016, 04:38 AM
So the idea that Lebron had cakewalks in the east is not entirely accurate

Or else he'd have not lost that much in the east

All I got from this thread is that the Eastern Conference has been SIGNIFICANTLY worse than the Western Conference.

So basically what I thought before. :confusedshrug:

But why have Lebron's teams lost just as much as Kobe's in their respective conference?

That's right

Lebron's teams are weaker, matching the conference

Thus, he hasn't had cakewalks to the finals

The eastern conference is in a lower level than the western conference just like elementary school and high school are lower levels to colleges/university. You are only showing that lebron struggled in the lower level. Be careful about that

Or....you know. You could've just been watching the NBA since 2007 and know that the East was a pathetic conference for a very long time.

And Lakers weren't as stacked as you make it seem. They had no legit #3 option. And were just a bunch of very solid role players that did their jobs exceptionally well. I'll give you that. Sorry, Fox, Fisher, George, Shaw. But other than those guys they consistently rotated their depth. Glen Rice was their for the 2000 title but I'd say Kobe's 08-10 squads had more talent 1-10 than the 3peat ones.

Every year we think the east might be a little more decent, and it turns out like this.
The first round is embarrassing. The cavs should sweep there way to the finals the rest of the east is so bad:facepalm

Craps vs pacers should just both be eliminated, both out choking each other
Boston and cawks both suck
Miami struggling against the hornets:facepalm
