Maybe Apple should stop being such a restricted company? We're in 2016 and they don't allow drag and drop? They don't allow an Android to connect to their computers.

This coming from someone typing to you from a Mac. Great design, build quality and aesthetics, but lacking in user friendliness and intuitiveness. This applies to all their machines.

I know this is the standard in America, this is actually one of those amazing examples of classic American materialism. If you have a smartphone with a data plan, any popular messaging service is vastly superior to texting. Whatsapp, Viber, Skype, whatever you want to use. They are all faster, more reliable and much more functional than texting. So everywhere in the world people switched over 5+ years ago and nobody but grandparents still use texts.

Only in America people will insist on using a vastly inferior alternative, just to show they are paying for it. If you are paying for a data plan and you still use texts you are just a sucker, no doubt about it.

I have unlimited texts with my data plan...

So now what? Do I download an app for something I already don't pay for?

Not to mention the majority of my texts are simple. One liners, I might use 100 characters every now and then, but mostly its just a sentence. I don't need emojis and all that other shit.

Lol how much superior does it need to be?

Here's the last four texts I sent to 4 different individuals:

Person 1: 12:30
Person 2: Cool
Person 3: See ya, bitch (accompanied by a picture of Dwight Howard)
Person 4: Tommorow afternoon. Maybe 7.

What can this super awesome non-American texting fad do for me that will enhance those messages? Lol

I guess if you use texting for casual conversation all day, every day. Or if you like sending emojis or drawing shit, it's cool. Most people I know don't do any of that though.

-Faster
-More reliable
-Easier to share anything. HQ pics, videos, files, music, audio messages, locations, etcetera
-read receipts
-More privacy
-Integrated video calling
-No crazy charges/poor functionality when traveling.
-Everything cross-platform

Just the reliability and the speed alone is enough reason to switch. There are zero downsides. Like I said, literally everywhere in the world people have stopped using texts because of how inferior and old-fashioned it is.

Maybe not you, but I said it in reply to that guy who said: "I thought instant messaging was only for kids who can't afford a texting plan". So take it in that context, I bet that's the way a lot of Americans think and that's why America is the last country in the world where everyone still uses regular texting.

It's just interesting to me that the US is the only country where old fashioned style texting is still common.

This is what the uppity internationals don't understand. I was getting unlimited text, data and phone for $100 a month 3 years ago. I couldn't get a plan like that in Australia and hence everyone uses whatsapp, FB messenger etc. I'm assuming it's like that in europe. So LOL @ not have unlimited data/text you socialist countries. That's why America was "behind" on the texting apps. I think verizon and AT&T got rid of unlimited data recently though.

But LJJ is going after Bless' 2nd post in this thread going off about iphone to iphone texting having no lag. This can easily be solved via whatsapp/fb messenger.

I'm on a similar pre paid plan like yourself and it really depends on who I'm talking to if I text/whatsapp/FB message. All group convos are whatsapp/fb messenger except for one. Non-australian friends I whatsapp. You also don't have to worry about getting a sim card all the time. If you change sim cards, you can send a whatsapp message with your new temporary number in case they need to call you.

Getting a facebook of a girl is pretty much the new number nowadays since you can call and message pretty easily from FB.

If you do get a random girl's number, it's nice if she has whatsapp so you can check her photo out afterwards to see if she was actually hot. :lol

And LOL @ the wechat shoutout. That thing is for asian hookers only.

Nice. I'm surprised.

If that's the case, there's not really an incentive to reach for whatsapp if all that shit's unlimited. Not many places where you'll have wireless/4G/3G and not have phone service. But sure, if it gets introduced, they're more likely to stick with it.

I use it to stay in touch with internationals or use it as a group chat. Or if the other person uses it more often than text I'll use it.

iPhone to iPhone has absolutely no lag.

So when you having a text conversation and sending multiple texts, it arrives in order, on boaf sides , all the time. You can follow along as if talking.

My main point.

iPhone to android be OFF.

Android users getting a text like 30 seconds later and shit and you think they answered a question that you just sent , but the responding to that old text.

It's like trying to talk with a drunken idiot.

iPhone to iPhone = NO LAG , immediate sending and receiving.

Telstra is the only decent provider in Australia so haven't bothered with the others.

Umm, the only bad one is Vodafone. Every other network is fine.

My mistake, if you look through the rest of the website, they have a 25 gig option. How much more do you need for a phone? But they did have unlimited options not too long ago. The plans seem to be consistently changing. Optus offer 20 gigs themselves.

If you can actually use 20 gig of data on your phone in a month you're doing something wrong with your life. Look up and see the world around you.

I thought only Mexicans used whatsapp...guess the whole international community does.

Anyways, I don't have it on purpose. People usually feel free to contact you like you don't have a life or important things.

Just to have some sort of reference since we also have a business which offers cheap text messages.

Worldwide our text volumes went from 250k a day to just 50k a day (20%)
US: from 30k a month to just 70k a month (25%)

So Texting becoming less popular is not just a fad.

Texting in my opinion has become a nuisance. It use to be very convenient and to a certain degree it still is. Remember when text messages overtook calls? Where it is easier to just text someone rather than calling someone?

Calling someone is considered bothering someone since you don't know if they can talk. They can be in their cars or out and about.

Well, texting has become that way. People expect immediate replies and we as society has grown tiresome of it.

The go-to for me are emails. My buddies and I do a lot of it when we are planning something. It's a more relaxed form of communication.

P.S. I can't believe people still worry about data. I have the best network and the most expensive in ATT. I have unlimited everything through them.

Telstra is the only network where you can consistently get good coverage no matter what part of the country you're in. Northern Territory, Western Queensland, Central queensland, up the coast to Cairns etc. I was in Fraser Island and you can only get signal if you have Telstra.

Agreed with your last statement. I wish they offered cheaper pre paid options.
