Duncan 2 times: (1999, 2003)

Kobe 1 time: (2009)

I would give Kobe 2010, as well.

Duncan? As horrific as he was on offense in '05, he was still a dominant rebounder and defender. (As a side-note...Shaq was a MUCH greater offensive force against that SAME Piston team the year before.)

And Lebron was probably the best player in the '14 Finals, but who cared? He had zero impact in that Finals.

Chamberlain was easily the best player in the Finals in '64, '67, 70, and '72.

As for Lebron...he was AWFUL in a sweeping loss in '07, was AWFUL in a humiliating Finals in '11, and had ZERO impact in '14. Furthermore, he and Glass Ankle Curry will forever be linked to the trivia question...what two MVPs played against each other in the same Finals and lost out in the FMVP to a bench-warmer?

ZERO IMPACT buddy. The average margin in the '14 Finals was...

14.5 ppg...and NBA record.

As for Wilt, I would take his '64, '67, and '70 Finals over ANY of Lebron's. Not even close in fact.

NOR does that include the REAL NBA Finals in the decade of the 60's...Wilt vs Boston...in which Chamberlain completely trashed Russell and the Celtics in '60, '62, '64, '65, '66, '67, and '68 (and outplayed Russell in '69.)

Just like the Lebron fans ignore the 5 > 2, right?

The fact was, Kobe earned at least four of his five rings, and if you include playing brilliantly in an OT win without Shaq, all five.

But the bottom line...Shaq would have two less rings in his career without Kobe carrying LA into the Finals in '01 and '02. And only a fool would argue that Kobe was not the best player in '09 and '10 Finals.

Pretty much my sentiments, as well. I would give Lebron '15 simply because he won two games by himself, was an OT game away from another, and kept his team in the clinching loss until the very end. Furthermore, swap Lebron with Curry in that series, and GAC would still be ringless.

Not at all, but the Lebron fans never use context.

Chamberlain was the better player than Russell in EVERY one of their EIGHT playoff series H2H's...and in most, by huge margins.

Kobe carried the Lakers into the Finals in '01, '02, '04, and '08, and was the best player in the Finals in '09 and '10. Without Kobe in '01 and '02, Shaq has two rings (and one of those as Robin, himself.)

On the flip side...no one should blame Lebron for losing in '07, and '15. I don't blame him for '14, but the reality was, he had zero impact in that Finals. He was great in '12 and '13. And was a huge part of their loss in '11.

THAT is CONTEXT.

This is interesting...

Why? Because this is what a prime Wilt faced in EIGHT of his ten seasons.

Shaq's numbers declined across the board against the Robinson-led Spurs (when the Admiral was basically a starter in those H2H's) from '99 thru '02. Same with MJ against the Bad Boys from '88 thru '90 (I won't include the shell of a team that the '91 Pistons were.) And same with a peak Kareem, whose numbers fell off the cliff against Wilt and Thurmond in the '71, '72, and '73 post-seasons.

CONTEXT.

In any case, without Kobe's brilliant play in the '01 and '02 playoffs, Shaq would not have come close to a ring in those two years. And he had a cakewalk in the Finals going up against a 35 year old Mutombo, whom he was allowed to bloody; a washed up Smits; and a complete clod in MacCulloch.

Duncan's production in one of those series was better than David's in both combined.

Were the Spurs lead more by Elliott from 99-02 than Duncan also? How about Avery Johnson?
