but in the '70 NCAA Finals, he was murdered by a 6-9 Sidney Wicks. Coming into that game, Gilmore was (and still is I believe) the all-time NCAA rpg leader. However, in that game, Wicks outrebounded Gilmore, 18-16, blocked five of Gilmore's shots, and held Artis to 9-29 from the floor.

And I bet that 95% posters on ISH couldn't tell you a thing about Sidney.

Sidney Wicks was a great player and great all around player . But you know , all 70's stars are underrated right now . They played before global era , unfortunately .

Once he went to the Celtics he slowly became more of a role players and only lasted 10 seasons in the league. His 4 first seasons were his best. My dad told me he was disappointing in the pros overall, because he was a beast in college.

But him being the greatest center of the past 10 or so years is just a reflection of how the NBA has changed into "small ball" and how much the center position has declined.
