Donovan: "You've got to be able to play random basketball, because everyone is so well scouted."

What a genius this Donovan. Never thought of that before. :lol

Random basketball should be reserved for game ending ISOs in a tie game. Not for 48 mins :lol

he's getting paid $6 million a year to coach, and his game plan is that let his players play random basketball :oldlol:

He really doesn't feel this way. This is just part of being a coach on this Oklahoma City Thunder team.

most basketball is random with a framework, its dictated by reads and reactions

There is some truth to that statement. A coach will not call plays every single time down the court. It is up to the players to improvise in certain situations.

But you need players that have a high IQ to get the best results with the improvisations. Carlisle allowed Kidd to improvise and run the team when he was on the floor with the Mavs. Carlisle never let the point guards afterwards do that such as Collison, James, etc.

Not surprised in the least.

And yet he's probably still a better coach than most NBA head coaches. The NBA is a joke. There are probably 4 or 5 coaches that really understand what they are doing. The rest get exposed when they don't have Lebron or some other superstar to make them look great.

Kerr would look like such a failure if he were coaching in Brooklyn.

Donovan: "You've got to be able to play random basketball, because everyone is so well scouted."

Or you can play a ball-movement based team offense like the Spurs and Warriors do.

There's nothing random about what the Warriors and Spurs are doing. Even if they aren't running set plays, there's still a method to the madness.

And what would Donovan look like without Durant and Westbrook?

OKC talk too f*cking much too

Just STFU and play sometimes, you f*cking low iq idiots

Westbrook basically giving up baskets because he's still down the other end screaming at the lay up he just made.

When I met Billy D and I knew he was leaving, which was WAY before ANYONE else knew, I was terrified for him because of Westbrook's inability to adapt to a system. I live 5 minutes from UF and I've loved Donovan for a long time, even more than I loved our players. Billy D was Gator basketball.

I feel for him, especially considering that he could've had coach K status had he stayed at UF.

Less big men, more spacing, watered down league. No need to call plays every time down. Game is less complex.
