To compare...

Dennis Rodman, probably the greatest rebounder ever, only topped that in 2 postseasons

1993-94: 8 offensive rebounds per game (he only played 3 games and averaged 38mpg to Thompsons 28mpg)

1995-96: 5.4 offensive rebounds per game (35mpg to Thompsons 28mpg)

Is it safe to say Trstan is one of, if not the greatest offensive rebounder of all time?

Moses.
Moses only averaged 5 or more while also averaging 38+ minutes

And his best years of offensive rebounding were in the :facepalm 70s:facepalm

Tristan is going up against a team where the center is like 6'8" and hangs out at the 3 point line. Who's he battling down low for boards? Thompson is a 3 ORPG max player otherwise.

Hawks were 24th in the league in boards for a reason. Undersized and limited in talent. A team of role players.

Insecurity.

Kobe's worst (2 losses) is equal to lebron's best (2 wins).

He is great but his stats are inflated due to fewer big men and more spacing.

JV is getting 4.4 in 28.5mpg and has a much better offensive game.

Maybe it's partially due to a decrease in minutes, but Rodman's rebounding often decreased in the playoffs.

I'm not going to say he's the greatest or even close to it, he's still young, but it seems like once the playoffs start the last two years he kicks it up a notch and just gives 100% on offensive rebounding.

Four of his 7 games were going to head-to-head with one of the very few true centers in the league and a guy who also happened to be statistically the best rebounder in the league, though.

He averaged 4.0 offensive boards a game against Drummond. That's ... pretty amazing.

True, which is why guards have way more rebounds today, but when I see TT play - and he is a very good offensive rebounder - I very often see him not boxed out or if boxed, only having to go over one guy. This simply was different in the times of Rodman, because someone says he rebounds against Drummond, but really he rebounds against their power forward and the power forward today is much smaller than in the 90s.

Spacing is the main part though. There's a lot more room to operate under the basket and much harder to box out as a team.

Tristan is the Cavs' starting center. He was rebounding over and around Drummond quite often.

Who was their main rim defender and therefore not in rebounding position afterwards.

Lets begin with agreeing that there is nowhere near the same box-out going on today than in Rodman's time?

What does that have to do with anything?

Tristan Thompson rebounds with the best centers. He's very good at what he does. Ostensibly it could end there.

I don't really feel the need to defend a point about a comparison between Rodman and Tristan, because I never endorsed that notion. I'm just commenting on TT being an amazing offensive rebounder. Where he stands in history at that specific role? Hard to say. Rodman is the gold standard.
