Mine got to around $210 when I decided to cut the cord. And this was at least 3 years ago. It was mostly TV and I made the decision, I barely watch TV shows live anyway. Didn't even have HBO  Now pay less than 50 for internet + phone.

The only thing I do watch live is sports, I have WatchESPN + Chromecast and my brothers account credentials for that :pimp:

$20/month but no sports channels. Not even ESPN and they want extra for it. ESPN use to come with the basic package.

I have TNT though.

The best thing about my package?

Unlimited Data/Text/Calls for my phone.

Changed my Internet to 50/50, no need to go beyond that when they restrict your fckn bandwidth. I was at 300/300. Some devices can't even go past 100mbps

I'm around $225

Verizon Fios

3 HD/DVR boxes...Internet...land line

Been thinking about ditching the land line, but it's only $20 a month. Rarely use it, but I'm thinking it could come in handy if there was an emergency.

Honestly, I think landlines are going to get outsourced. We all have cell phones. I think the only reason we have a landline is for emergencies or if the cellphone line is busy/unanswered (which aren't good enough excuses to still pay for monthly).

In most instances, it's cheaper practically dead-even to lump the phone into the package than to have everything ala carte or internet/cable package with extra boxes.

Same as ordering a burger and fries without the drink. You're probably only saving about $0.15 from not getting the value meal.

$27 a month for high speed internet and about 75 channels through Time Warner.

I was originally paying about $30 just for internet and when I moved down to Portland Maine the rep told me I could add cable and lower my bill :oldlol:

So I was like...ok.

I'm pretty sure I'm only supposed to have basic cable but I get about 75.

This.

I am hoping these high bills are with the phone service included.

I'm a little bit over $100 with ATT television and Unlimited Talk/Text/Data.

It just sucks that they won't give you the sports channels that would normally come with the basic television package. I have to pay $15 more for ESPN and Fox Sports. Another $19 if I want BEIN Sports to watch my soccer.

Consolidated $140 monthly total after taxes/fees.
- 154 channels, whole house DVR, three TV's.
- 100/100 Fiber Internet
- Standard phone line

Sharing one of the TV lines with my sister in another state, via slingbox, so she gets free cable and I can access it anywhere in the world too.

If you call them and tell them the service sucks and you don't really use everything anyway, they'll easily knock $10- $20 off your monthly bill (depending how convincing you sound and how far you want to push it) and probably throw in free movie packages. They'll say they can't go any lower, may even get a manager that speaks English to tell you that's the bottom dollar, but they're lying. If you threaten to cancel, they'll ALWAYS lower it.

That goes for every cable company. Doesn't even have to be a good reason, just tell them the service drops and the Internet speed is spotty, they don't really care why you're not happy, but they'll do almost anything to keep you as a customer.

im not sure the "cancelling my service" bluff would work for me, since they already know my area has no other viable options for internet.

also i doubt they can add any free movie/sports packages cause i pretty much have all of those already, no doubt one of the reasons why my bill is so damn high.

i don't think the actual cost matters as much as the %-of your income.

if cable costs 10% of your income, you're nuts. even 5% is crazy.

less than 1% of my income goes to cable.

Comcast makes a killing off of cable with their pricing models. to even have basic cable you're paying like $140~ and they force you to go digital.

Online content providers haven't advanced enough imo. Sling is on it's way but padt I heard they still had some issues. And lol, I'm not dropping cable for the likes of netflix. I need tnt and espn for basketball and football games.

I'm just waiting for sling tv to perfect their product.

The only issue sling tv has right now is no DVR other than that I had no issue streaming it and it has most of the big channels (ESPN, TNT, CNN food network AMC and others) and its about 20 bucks I just dont understand how people are paying over 120 bucks or more for cable and out of that 250 plus channels, they are watching about 20 of them. Netflix, Amazon Prime and OTA will do for me. I just dont think its worth spending 120 bucks or more a month just to watch TV.

Me either. I gotta call Comcast to get it from them. I gotta dust it off every now and then.

The cable usage doesn't justify the price, but I'm sorta ok of having the convenience of having it. I'd be miserable with only channels 1-99 like some cheap ass. I'll pay that extra scratch for being able to watch premium channels when I want to.

Can someone explain American cable to me? How many channels do you get if you pay as much as some of you are paying ($100 range)?

How many channels do you get just on regular non-pay television? Do you still get all your local sports teams games on TV?
