Who here smokes cigarettes?
Why?
How long have you smoked for?
Cold turkey attempts?
These people carry a permanent smell. It's in their hair, their fingers, their clothes, their breath, have yellow teeth, their paranoid, they start throwing temper tantrums when their "time to smoke" is arriving or passed, their hands shake, they get moody. God knows what else. I have a friend. He smokes through 1-2 packs a day. He said if he doesn't get that cigarette when his mind calls for it, he becomes dangerously violent and aggressive. He mentions his temper causes fights with random people and he used to be physically dominant if he had to.
But I respect it. I used to be very judgmental, then I hit my 20's. I understand why people do what they do. You have one life to live. Whatever it takes to get past the day. My only issue is the people who smoke in their cars/someone else's car or proximity without any respect for the person in the area of exposure.
I personally never smoked one. I did for the first time in my life held one in my hands that was lit so my friend can go inside of the store. My fingers smelled like shit the remainder of the day.
Listening to a Joe Rogan Experience podcast right now, and he says from a cigar or tobacco, it ignites the brain and creates brain functionality. Allowing a clearer mind and better decision making. If anyone would like to also comment on that.

I sometimes wish I smoked. The amount of breaks smokers get at work must amount to half the damn work day. No one calls them out on it. Just get up and go. They travel in packs too and are all weather. There could be volcanic ash flying in the air, but if you looked closely you could see a handful of smokers huddled together and puffing away. Two things will survive a nuclear war: smokers and cockroaches.

Good point. I remembered they had a law pass, something about giving them smoke breaks? How the fck? I wonder how many states have this. And why employers don't get rid of them because they're doing it on company time is beyond me, I'm sure many private companies don't stand for that shit.

No one ****s with them. I've been all over the world, worked in government and private jobs. No one confronts a smoker with regard to smoke breaks. It's an unwritten universal law. I wouldn't be surprised if it is someone in the small print of the Koran, Bible or some other religious text. Try taking the number of breaks a smoker takes and not actually be a smoker. People will notice. Even in combat zones...smokers rules are in place and they are fiercely protective of these rights.

Combat zone I understand. What I think it is, in the professional world, it is an unwritten rule to relieve stress in the only way society allows you to (smoking)
What I don't understand though, doesn't it make you light headed? Hookah makes me light headed. I heard cig's give you a buzz too. How can anyone say it doesn't in a way lower your senses?

Smoking has no tangible effect on me. I've tried it many times, one of my roommates was a casual smoker and I would join him outside except i drank a beer. I tried it a couple times with him to no effect.
So what the fck do you get out of smoking?

That's why I don't do it. When i asked my roommate he said it relaxed him. He quit already tho.

I smoke about a quarter pack a day. A cigarette with my morning coffee and a few after work. Don't take smoke breaks and I can go a day without one easily. It's a nice balance to strike and i just enjoy cigarettes tbh.

I think it's supposed to have some benefits for concentration or something but I don't notice. Mostly it's just relaxing and sometimes gives me a little buzz.

Nah bro, that's just unhygienic people. If their hair smells, chances are they don't shower readily. Yellow teeth, you ain't using the right toothpaste/don't floss/listerine/ or flat out don't have good oral hygiene. I've never in my life threw a temper tantrum because I ran out of cigs, worst case scenerio is, god forbid, take a 5 minute ride to the gas station and buy a pack. But me personally I never have a "time to smoke" I just light one up when I want one. I can go a day without smoking one and not even notice until the next day. Breath? Like I said, oral hygiene and also gum ffs. Cloths, have cologne in the car. Bitches love that cig/cologne mix. Fingers smell? Wash your hand, bruh :oldlol:
There are people who don't smoke and never have that smell like a wet ****ing dog, it's because they don't care and don't have good hygiene. There are people who smoke a pack and a half who smell quite nice and have perfect teeth.
A lot of the stuff you posted about are HEAVY smokers, like I could never imagine smoking a pack a day, let alone 2. I feel like I'd suffocate. Maximum I used to smoke a day was 8-10 cigs, but these days it's far less due to hitting the vape instead. Juice smells nice, 100x less harmful (still harmful, but so is weed smoke soo..), and more variety for flavors. These days I'll still smoke a stoge when working (for the break, of course) and when driving. Something about a stoge on your drive home from a long day...nothing beats it, lol.
You'd never be able to tell I'm a smoker unless you saw me smoking with your own eyes, most people are surprised when they see me light one.

My neighbor lol
I used to smoke for about 10 years and then was able to cold turkey. It took a few tries though but I definitely dont have urges anymore. I'll still even have one or two in social settings and I'm fine the next day.
But know that I dont smoke, I really hate the smell of it and having a neighbor that smokes, chain smokes actually, is the worst. Sucks that I cant even open my own windows.
I sometimes wish I smoked. The amount of breaks smokers get at work must amount to half the damn work day. No one calls them out on it. Just get up and go. I smoke, but I don't smoke from 8-5 except during lunch. I'm of the firm belief that, as with my marijuana use, there are some that are addicted, but some just enjoy it.
To answer the OP, I came back from overseas and stopped cold turkey for two years. I started again as a social thing, then it became a habit, but one that I enjoy. My girlfriend doesn't like the smell of cigarettes, so I smoke black and minds at home.
But when I travel, for work for example, I won't smoke for 3 or 4 days straight with no issues. I don't get stressed or anxious, I don't even notice it.
But I smoke at home because I enjoy it. I enjoy being outside, I spend a lot of time on my balcony. I'll read for periods of time, or relax, and when I do, I'll smoke. It's a relaxing thing. No different then people who have a drink on a sunny afternoon. Once my screened in porch is finished, I'll smoke out there. TV mounted for football, whiskey barrel bar stools, an 8 foot bar, and a couch and rocking chair. Nothing more enjoyable then kicking back on a summer afternoon, turning the overhead fan on low, kicking my feet up, and smoking a black and mild while I watch tv.
But to your point, there are gross smokers. You can smell them. Smoke on the corner of the office, smoke in their house (which I think is disgusting).
I could stop now if I wanted. As I said, I stop for days at a time and don't think twice, but just like I only drink in social situations, I only smoke when it's appropriate.

This. Nobody knew I smoked in my office for probably 8 months until a lighter fell out of my pocket once. Then came the low volume whispers 'do you smoke?'. Lol, yeah, have for a while. Once people know though, they just kinda forget because, as you pointed out, you wouldn't know unless you saw me do it.
Same with my marijuana use. You'd never imagine I'd be a smoker if you saw me out in public.

I smoke cigarettes on the morning commute, maybe one or two on my lunch break, then on my way home. When it's a quick thing, like I'm 20 minutes from work and I'm sitting in traffic or after a big ass pizza for lunch, it's a cigarette.
At home, I smoke mainly wood tip black and milds or cigars, because the motivation is different. I enjoy the feeling of smoking, a long drag and an even longer exhale, and I actually like the smell of the black and milds (which goes with the porch decor in a way, that rustic old timey smell).
Doing it this way, I run through maybe a pack of cigarettes a week, and I buy the black and milds in bulk, 50 for $50. I'll pay $2 a day (maybe $5 come fantasy football season) to kick back in my domain that, I bought and paid for on my own, and smoke a big ol tobacco product.
Tbh. My family is evenly split with smokers and drinkers. I honestly enjoy smoking than I do drinking. By myself = smoking, at parties or events = drinking
But if I had to say what rubs off on me more, I'd say smoking. And I never would of believed it. I was always against it.
I just never touched tobacco. I think if I try it I'd get addicted.
You smoke to kill boredom? :facepalm
Yes.
I smoked like a freight train while deployed. 98% of the time, you're sitting around doing nothing. The only time I wasn't smoking is when we were engaged, and even then, after a while you got a sense of when the fighting was calming down or they were regrouping.
Yeah, I smoke on my commute to work cause it's an hour each way and it's awful. At lunch, I eat in a few minutes and then sit there for another 20 listening to satellite radio and smoking, just because.

Don't understand smoking. The break taking is annoying though...especially in hard labor jobs. And because your cardio sucks you're twice as useless.
Had a smoker (singaporean) criticize food in America for being too unhealthy. wtf?

Like I said, black and mild, wine flavored wood tips are delicious. The wood leaves a sweet taste in your mouth and on your lips (no homo). I'm surprised they aren't more popular, even my girlfriend will smoke them occasionally after dinner and she had never touched a tobacco product in her life before recently. They're cheap, and you can always let them burn out and light them again later with the same flavor. And they're a dollar a piece.

$6 for a5 pack in gas stations. $46 for a 50 pack online. It'll change your views on smoking, definitely a more mild, less trashy smoking option for that end of the work day/after a big ass steak/out at a BBQ and threw a few back/need some quiet alone time in my personal sanctuary type state of mind.

The stupid ones? Give me a little smoke and ask me. My girlfriend will smoke with me on occasion and ask me shit. I've raked tree bark out of the grass at 3am. I've stood an 8 hour rotating guard duty, for three days in the middle of winter, on a truckload of gas mask canisters (not even the ****ing masks themselves, just the canisters) because they were serialized. I've literally loaded pallets of beans on to a truck, only to come back the next day and unload it. To come back two days later and pull that SAME load off another truck, because another working party was told to put them on a different truck, and put them back on the original truck. I've lived and slept under a truck, in the sand, for days, because it was 115 degrees outside and it was hot to too train. No beds (they never showed up), no gear or change of clothes (that got lost, and then broke down), no nothing. Just you playing with your balls for hours and hours. And every 4 hours they pull everyone out and make you stand in a line and chug water, so you don't die, just like in the movies. That was right after I got my smallpox vaccine, the one you're supposed to keep absolutely clean and dirt free for like a week... we had to use duct tape because sand would get inside the bandages.
But every good story is worth 100 of the bad, so it's all a matter of perspective.

But every good story is worth 100 of the bad, so it's all a matter of perspective.
Sheeeeit. A lot of disorganization happening. I'd def give you a smoke if we were in person. What about the good ones?
Share em' bro. Just saw my ex, very pissed and whatnot, trying to get my mind off of that sh1t.

Getting home. Seeing my family again. Living large in San Diego as a kid. They weren't necessarily good (OC spray is a great example), but it's things you'll remember for the rest of your life. I remember exact places I slept while deployed, it's like I can think about it and remember every single detail, even though I got home 5 years ago (on May 4th, 2011 actually). Stories of times I probably could have died, a few stories of times I'm kind of surprised I didn't. I remember times when I was scared and I thought 'I'm about to die'.
But there were times where we went out the night before a run and got blasted, then vomited the entire run the next morning (which started about 2 hours after our night ended). I shot all kinds of weapon systems, drove all kinds of vehicles, traveled all over. I saw a cow get hit with a dummy 40mm cheesy poof round. I saw a wildfire we started because Cpl McGoo sent us to the range with tracer rounds. I saw a fat girl walk to her car in a bed sheet.
That's just the way it was. 98% of it was miserable, stupid, boring, and annoying. 2% of time, you wondered how you could ever work a normal job afterwards.

same with me. I smoke 2-3 times a week max, sometimes once a week, sometimes once every two weeks. 30 day tbreak resets go by fast for me.
No one know I use marijuana. I also vape it too for hygiene because.. Fck combustion
Started vaping bro, got myself a little pen. Dope af, much clearer high, smoother, no headaches. Got a gram of wax for $50 from my friend who gets it from a Cali dispensary, but my boy uptown sells for $40 a g. If a gram can last me longer than a week (which it is looking like it definitely will) then I am a happy man.
Much easier to get lifted now, just go outside to get someting from the car, cook it up a lil, and hit it. And since it's wax it hits you quick af, all together takes less than a minute to be lit af lmao I LOVE IT. You can definitely stay productive even if you takin hits from the vape throughout the day, this shit will be perfect once I start working in the tech field lmao, discrete way to get a quick boost.

Long story short. I could of intimidated him by going in the store with my mom but I went back in the car. I didn't want to effect him. I understand he probably loves her by now. I'm not the type to make another guy upset over petty shit like her ex. If I wanted too I could of went in. My mom went in and made her shit her pants when she saw her. She stayed away from my mom the entire time in the store and was avoiding her bf.
Men will be men. Whether she talked to him while we were together, a month after, etc, the female is to blame not the man.
I was the better person. Just avoided conflict even if it was prone to being damage in their relationship by me showing up face to face without confronting anyone.

Na, it just vapes wax. Which is ok, wax is stronger than herb but it's sticky AF. Like if you get it on your fingers you might as well wash it off because it is almost impossible to get off lol. $60 for that one in the pic, love it so far. Battery life is long af, my friend has had the black version for a month and STILL hasn't had to recharge the battery! :oldlol:
And yea, you inhale cigs to get the lung hit. Black and mild you can lightly inhale here and there, but for regular cigars helllllll no lol not even a little.

I'm not a fan of lung hits unless it's the lung hits from MN (vaped). Lung hits from blunts or joints make me cough for hours like I'm dying.
As for the B&M, I notice there are several different flavors. For example wine, does it actually taste the flavor it represents? Can I light it up in the car or house without smelling like smoke
how's the scent?

I inhale them. Lot of times I'll grind bud up and put it in there.
It's a waste, yeah, but it's a smooth high. Plus my girlfriend and her friends will smoke it then, cause they feel somehow that way is less illegal.
I actually like the burn in my chest. A nice big exhale, you feel like you just blew all your stress away.

Yes, the wine actually does taste like wine. The tobacco is smoother and the wooden tip is flavored.
The rest of them are okay. I'd suggest staying away from the plastic tips, it's just not the same. Kinda like smoking a pipe, and the plastic ruins it.
Car, it will smell over time. You won't smell, but your car will soon, but again, I like the smell of black and milds. If you keep your ride clean, it smells kinda good, to me at least.
If you light tobacco in your house, you'll regret it for all eternity. Don't ever. Smoke outside, and when you're not smoking, keep it away from you. My balcony pulls air out so I always hold it with the outside hand. You'll still kinda smell like it, but it's not a nasty cigarette smell.

I couldn't ever. I enjoy staying on AF bases, a lot nicer than sleeping in dirt, but that's just not for me. The bonds you create are molded by the fact that you have to go through shitty situations together.
Besides, I wanted to go out if I was ever deployed. Rarely did I ever see AF leave the wire. In fact, on Leatherneck, the AF people volunteered to work at the USO's because they had so much free time.

You can have that. I enjoyed the Air Force and my band of brothers. I did base comms, so I got to play with some cool toys. Led me to places like Korea and Japan and a few years at Ft Meade. Funny thing though is I never went on a deployment, while most of the guys I worked with spent a few trips in the sandbox. I didn't go til I left the Air Force and went over as a contractor. In the Air Force, it wasn't the smokers that annoyed me the most. It was the damn coffee addicts.

If you know any place that's easy to get on, I'm down. Civilian life is boring, I should have gone back over again as soon as I got out.
I feel like the AF doesn't smoke like the Marines and Army do. Didn't run into a whole lot of Navy guys unless they were attached to us. There was an AF guy that went out with us for a long while, JTAC officer. He was cool, and he dropped bombs for us.

I left in 2011, shortly before we 'left' Iraq. Not sure how the jobs are going in Afghanistan or with AFRICOM these days. If you're an IT guy probably the easiest way to get your foot in the door is to search for jobs offered by http://www.itt.com/Home/. Of course Raytheon and the others are out there as well. If you aren't IT then I'm not sure what is out there for a civilian. I suppose logistics work. I left when I got married because it was starting to feel normal out there while the real world was the ****ed up place, but I know guys who have been out there since 2001 and probably would kill themselves if they had to get jobs in the real world.
Could only imagine. Being in the AF and flying one of those jets. They're like what, a billion a piece? God dam. That bird expensive.

Ha, no, I meant more private security. That's what I wanted to go back to, although the mechanics that put our trucks back together after explosions were not going poor.
It's true, man, civilian life is boring. Same old job, same old day, same old people. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy it, and I love everything going on in my life right now. At the same time, there's nothing better than having stories to tell.

Depends which branch.
Honestly, unless you're severely obese, it's not really as physically demanding as it sounds. Besides, the training has gone soft, at least in the Marines. It's not like it was when I went in in '07, which is a whole lot different from guys who went in in 2000.
Believe me, if you can jog, you can pass boot camp.

You just go. Everyone is the same unless you're super fat and you get stuck in PCP (we liked to call them the pork chop platoon).
The Air Force raised the maximum age for enlisted accession from 27 to 39, meaning it may now be the best choice for those who feel the call to military service later in life.
The maximum age for Army enlisted recruits is 35, while the Navy and Marines cap recruit ages at 34 and 28, respectively.
So...
AF - 39
Army - 35
Navy - 34
MC - 28

Thanks to bad pub for Blackwater and other security companies in Iraq, I think they are pretty much on the outs at the moment. Might want to keep an eye on what is going on in Africa though. That will be the next battleground in the coming years, in my opinion. AFRICOM is being built up.
Agree, civilian life is boring, but it is ****ed up to be more freaked out being around a large number of people than being in the midst of a mortar and rocket attack. We are way off cigarettes, but I'll tell you one thing I look back on and now shake my head at. One night I was coming from the chow hall at Camp Victory and a mortar attack came. We have the phalanx guns going off, but you can see the trajectory of them tracking the mortars and probably a few rockets. Well I had my food and two gatorade bottles, but had to scramble into one of the bomb shelters and dropped a gatorade bottle. You know what was ****ed up? I didn't give a damn if I actually died in the attack. I was pissed I dropped that damn gatorade bottle and would have to go searching for it after the all clear.:lol

That was kinda my point.
I look back on it now and think 'what the **** was I doing?'. A lot of times, I'd ride around in the gun with no flak, no kevlar, no harness, wearing sweat pants and sandals.
May or may not have told this story on here before, but some General or whatever had this great idea that instead of sending out convoys with 100 trucks (like the ones I was used to doing), we'd send out a big ****ing convoy with 400 trucks and dare someone to hit it.
So, as the convoy went north from Leatherneck to Nolay (outside of Sangin), there were 4 or 5 groups that would break off from the convoy as it traveled and head into the mountains to watch the route back (to keep the Taliban from back laying our route). My platoon was lucky enough to draw OP5, which was the farthest north (north = bad).
We went up onto an overlook looking over a village, circled our trucks, and dug in. We had a nice little area, I'd guess the size of a baseball field? We were there for maybe 6 or 7 days, the village was quiet. Every once in a while someone would fire some shots at us, but we were dug in well and had an elevated position, so nobody really wanted to **** with us.
Day 6 (or 7, it was 6 years ago so I don't know), we heard a battle going on nearby. We heard it for about an hour, and then all of a sudden, we see these British trucks come over the ridge in the valley below just blasting away. After them, the convoy was coming. Once the main convoy reached us, we said hi, shook hands, and then mounted up to drive off. As we rolled out, BOOM. Truck blew up right in the middle of where we had been camped. Turns out, the area we parked in (and walked all over) was covered in IED's meant for the newly arrived M1's. Arty shells and pressure plates.
I look back on that now and think for being so, so stupid over there, Im lucky to be alive. I did a whole lot of dumb shit that people got killed for doing.
But I was 21 and bullet proof, you know how that goes.

We sound like two old timers.
I remember one night I was working alongside one of the Army guys assigned to work with us. We had a couple guys in the back doing a upgrade of one of the main core routers. This Army guy is on the phone having a heated conversation with his wife and suddenly he is screaming into the phone and then slams it down. For some reason, I was in 'don't give a **** mode' and just completely ignored him. We worked in a few big com boxes connected together. He opens the locked side door, grabs his M-16, screams really loud, punches the wall and storms off. I look after him and I am bitching in my head because now I have to get up to close the goddamn door because we have some high level classified stuff in there. I get a call from the RNOSC (basically the heart of comms in Iraq) and those guys are freaked out, because they heard the scream and the loud bang and they want to know if we are okay. The guys in the back come out slowly and they are scared asking what happened. I close the door, tell them dude just had a fight with his girl and tell the RNOSC it's all good. For all I knew he could have been prepared to go on a rampage, but I didn't care because it looked it was going to be a quiet work night for me and I had a feeling I wasn't going to be his target if he did snap. Plus it was almost midnight chow time.
Turned out the MP's where called, they tracked the guy down, relieved him of his weapon and he got reassigned somewhere else. Important thing to me: it was a quiet night and I got my midnight chow.

Join the army and they'll pay off your student loans. Join the army in a priority occupation, and they'll throw money at you. 10k for the right jobs (linguists for example).
Skinny guy lol, I should be fine.
Which branch pays the most btw?
They all pay the same based on rank. If you are worried about quality of life, then you can go ahead and exclude the marine corps. Join the air force, they have all the hot bitches.
:lol
If I had to guess, I would say 90% of the dudes I was deployed with were cheated on. :oldlol: Myself included. I found out when I got home, moved out of my apartment with her, and she ended up getting evicted.
It became a joke.

****ing outstanding. Couldn't ask for more. Not only is my girlfriend now way cooler, her parents are also ****ing loaded, which is a nice bonus.
I don't sweat the small stuff. Yeah you can say cheating isn't small, but to me, it is what it is. You cheated, okay, tells me everything I need to know. Don't need to get mad or upset, you made your decision, the end.
No point in getting butthurt over it. It didn't work out, move on. We didn't even really discuss it... I asked if it was true, she hesitated in her response, and I said 'cool, see ya' and left. Text her the next day, asked her to leave the place while I packed, packed my shit up, and moved out.
I don't hate her for it, and I'm not mad at her. Like I said, it is what it is.

Definitely. We all make decisions solely based on our own selfish desires. I can't blame anyone for taking advantage over a situation that overtime would put them in a better position they're in now. I'd much rather a break up as a resolution as opposed to the alternative being the one to use both men. Everyone's rewarded at some point. Either you hunt for yours, or you're being hunted down to be the reward in someone else's eyes.
I'd also look at women being more selfish and the type to cheat more as opposed to men in this generation. Women are finding less and less roles in society, pay scales aren't equal, more women rather be stay at home wives or contribute to pleasing their men and working ordinary jobs rather than have their own careers. It's the females that look for the men that are more financially welcoming them in to take part of their bank account than be a role of a partner.

This is true and they are fun to be around. Hell technical school felt like College. After those weeks in basic you had some people who needed to get laid. I went to Tech School at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS. What made it fun was that they had all the admin jobs there, which of course means most of the hot chicks went through there. We called them pop tarts, because they came in and out fast. There school was only a few weeks compared to the IT schools being five months or longer.

Wow. Can only imagine. They must of gone off the shelves the moment they came in.

The fastest runner in our company was a heavy smoker.
He got a perfect 300 on the PFT every time, and would run the 3 miles at a 17min pace... and look bored doing it.
But for every one of him, there was plenty of me's. I would run my 3 miles in ~20 minutes, but I would assume I could do it faster if I wasn't smoking a cigarette at the starting line.

Im a smoker and i dont know why employers would trip out. Its not like we have a smoke break whenever we feel like it. I dont know if others are smoking whenever they feel like it.
At most, i would have 3 smokes during my breaks. Morning break, lunch and afternoon break.
I am having a smoke during my break. I am not having a smoke break...the break isnt for a smoke.

My thoughts are that if the motivation is perceived benefits, don't do it as you won't last and hate every moment your there.
