View Full Version : Former Facebook Workers: We Routinely Suppressed Conservative News

We all knew it was happening, finally someone admitted it. If you want to be biased and pretend you're Hitler, that's fine, I just ask you stop telling the world you're all about freedom of thought and that you welcome all opinions.

Age of censorship :facepalm

At least there are still people out there with a concience and are willing to become whistle-blowers.

I also read that BLM wasn't trending, cause nobody gave a shit, and they were instructed to change the algorithm so that it would display as trending, as if someone cared.

The sadder part is the the general public is way too distracted with bullshit to actually care about their rights and privacy.

Facebook is just an advertising/media company... just like any other advertising/media company. Their goal is to increase traffic, by any means (legally) necessary.

It's important that you always question your information sources, and when possible, get your information from multiple sources. I haven't used Facebook in years, and never used it as an information source.

Just quit FB already.

Don't know why people are still on it. This zucker guy is no good.

As with many cases, when there is no censorship, conservative views win out. Back in the day when all the new channels were going, then along came Fox and boom! #1 news channel.

Conservative topics were trending, and leftist ideas like BLM were not, and that wasn't gonna happen in Zuk's book.

Aren't you one of those guys who compares Trump to Hitler and Trump (or even just all Republicans) supporters to Klansmen?

Talk about exaggerated comparisons :oldlol:

This is just another example of the mass-indoctrination going on in America, the desperate attempt to portray quite widely held views as if they were fringe views, so to encourage all the sheep that only dumb dumbs (or bigots) hold them. Typical appeal to crowd-mentality and peer-pressure (and strength in numbers).

:facepalm

Barring that, nobody cares if you do it, just don't tell everyone you don't. Don't pretend to be a bastion of free speech and safe haven where differing opinions can be heard. Don't tell people that, cause it's simply not true.

Why lie about it? You want the business of the people you wish to censor, but don't want them to have full access? That's odd.

Thanks for telling everyone something they already know. That wasn't the point at all. No-one was saying what facebook was doing was illegal.

By giving people the power to share, we're making the world more transparent.

The thing that we are trying to do at facebook, is just help people connect and communicate more efficiently.

Facebook was not originally created to be a company. It was built to accomplish a social mission - to make the world more open and connected.

Given the article I posted, would you say those statements are true or false?

See, I never said you can't be biased. It's his company, he can do as he sees fit (to an extent, because they are still a publicly traded company).

All I ask is you not pretend to be 'one love' and 'every voice matters' when clearly, that's not the case. He's not making the world more transparent any more than Obama's presidency was the most transparent presidency in history (some people actually fell for that lol).

Just don't lie.

Fox doesn't have a 'trending topics' section filtered out to include social justice topics that nobody cares about. Fox also doesn't have a 'if you don't post pro-Republican your shit will be deleted or removed' section either. In fact, Fox has gone after Trump harder than any left leaning website, so yeah, I'd say that's pretty fair.

It is a private company. They can do whatever they want. Facebook has as much right to lean left as Fox News has to lean right. Fair play.

I do find it comical though that people needed to be told that Facebook and Twitter are heavily to the the and actively promote left wing issues. Like, duh. Like when people made a big deal that the supposed "Fox News mole" revealed that fox pushes a right wing narrative. As if this was some giant revelation. Yeah, of course they do. Obviously.

Solid input. I feel like nobody is really arguing they can't do what they did. Actually, I know nobody is arguing that. So, well thought out statement.

Any opinion on parading yourself, and your company, as a bastion of free thought while simultaneously doing the opposite?

Seems pretty par for the course. Everyone does the opposite of what they preach. Facebook censors shit, conservatives blow dudes in bathrooms or cheat on wives. Anti racism champions are generally the most racist as you've pointed out numerous times before.

I also don't use Twitter or Facebook so I'm probably a bad person to ask.

But it wasn't coming from the top..

Did you even watch the link I posted. They do a good job of going into details, the issue is more nuanced than you you're making it out to be. It's individuals within Facebook that control news feeds and what's trending. Sometimes they have good reason to (perfect is example is that I wouldn't post any of the garbage that Breibart publishes without multiple independent sources backing it up). Then you post an example that actually has nothing to do with the topic at hand. :facepalm

No

The problem is that these curators were clearly biased one way and circumventing what everyone thought would be a process largely determined by algoriithims. How as a user can I trust they will verify independent sources for liberal topics the same way they filtered conservative topics? There is also no excuse for inserting topics that weren't trending and to label it as trending.

I did.

That's what my 'didn't come from the top' sarcastic post came from.

Zuk was caught on mic telling Merkel he'd take care of the online discontent for Muslim immigrants.

Oops.
