It's just his reasoning. "Well, the other movies did it, so I should be allowed too!"

And it simply makes Batman a less interesting character when written that way. He's like the Punisher, but dressed up like a Bat.

He didn't even do it in a "technical" way. He clearly showed BatPunisher blowing up like 20 guys with his batwing.
