How many times have the Duncan/Pop Spurs lost a series while having homecourt advantage?

And is it an NBA record?

Saw this on reddit: Phoenix Round 1 99-00 Lakers WCF 00-01 Lakers WC Semis - 03-04 Mavs WC Semis - 05-06 Mavs Round 1 - 08-09 Grizzlies Round 1 - 10-11 Thunder WCF - 11-12

Now 15-16 Thunder WC Semis

So 8 but Duncan didn't play in the 99-00 one.

This is what happens when you play in the Western Conference and literally make the playoffs every single year.

Pops is a great coach but I just want to put this thread on my favorites the next time a fool infers that Popovich is so much better than Phil.

It's unfair to compare to other teams because the Spurs have made the playoffs more years in a row than many posters here have been alive.

How many times did Bird's Celtics lose with HCA?

I think six or seven, but it's a pretty meaningless stat when you consider all the series they won with HCA, just like the Spurs.

When you have strong regular seasons over many years, regularly earning HC, and deep playoff runs, you're bound to lose a few series on your own court - especially if you play in a difficult conference such as the current West or the 80s East.

Like someone said before, Spurs are title vultures that win when dynasties are over/weak. That's why they have never went back to back.

Duncan and Bird lost to the eventual champs 2 out of the 7 times.

Magic Johnson and Shaq had the worst HC advantage defeats:

Shaq only lost to the eventual champ 1 time out of 4.

Magic Johnson lost 4 times with HC advantage and none of the teams he lost to won a title.

Kobe lost to the eventual champs 2 times out of the 2 times he had HC advantage.

And Wilt "lost" to the eventual champions...TEN times. And he slaughtered an an eight-time defending 60-21 champion, as well as a 63-19 defending champion that was universally picked to win the title. In between, FIVE game seven losses to the eventual champions, including four by margins of 2, 1, 4, and 2 points. He was a few points away from winning SEVEN rings.

Yes Duncan would have been much better to have been like many of his peers the other superstars of his era who missed the playoffs multiple times or rarely had homecourt because they had poor records in the regular season. :facepalm It always amazes me the new ways people on ISH can find ways to downplay Duncan, Pop and the Spurs. It's clear when you hear actual current and former NBA players they don't feel this way.
