http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016/may/13/september-11-saudi-arabia-congressional-report-terrorism
At first, the witness, 32-year-old Fahad al-Thumairy, dressed in traditional white robes and headdress, answered the questions calmly, his hands folded in front of him. But when the interrogation became confrontational, he began to squirm, literally, pushing himself back and forth in the chair, folding and unfolding his arms, as he was pressed about his ties to two Saudi hijackers who had lived in southern California before 9/11.
Even as he continued to deny any link to terrorists, Thumairy became angry and began to sputter when confronted with evidence of his 21 phone calls with another Saudi in the hijackers’ support network – a man Thumairy had once claimed to be a stranger. “It was so clear Thumairy was lying,” a commission staffer said later. “It was also so clear he was dangerous.”
The commission’s newly declassified files suggest that the commission staff considered the questioning of Thumairy to be the most important of the interrogations conducted in Saudi Arabia, since the young Saudi was not only an accredited diplomat and an imam of a large Saudi government-built mosque in southern California. He had also been posted to the US at the request of the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, long considered by American intelligence agencies to be supportive of Islamic extremist groups outside Saudi Arabia. In Los Angeles, he was known among fellow Saudis to hold fundamentalist views on Islam.
Pressed on whether he had led conversations about “jihad” at the mosque among Saudi worshippers, Thumairy confirmed there were discussions “but that it was only about ‘good’ jihad, not ‘bad’ jihad. He said this discussion was not only necessary, but that it was his responsibility to teach the Islamic community the difference between good and bad jihad, especially after 9/11”.
According to the newly declassified interrogation reports, another key Saudi witness who appeared before the commission, Osama Basnan, a man described as “the informal mayor” of the Islamic community in San Diego before 9/11, was repeatedly caught in lies when asked about his relationship to Saudis in the support network. Basnan, who returned home to Saudi Arabia after coming under investigation after 9/11, had an “utter lack of credibility on virtually every material subject” in denying any role in a terrorist support network, the report said.
Basnan came under scrutiny, in part, because of tens of thousands of dollars in cashiers’ checks that his ailing wife received before 9/11 from a charitable fund controlled by the wife of the Saudi ambassador to Washington, Princess Haifa al-Faisal. Congressional investigators determined that much of that money, which totaled as much as $70,000, had been turned over to the family of another Saudi man in San Diego, Omar al-Bayoumi, who was at the center of efforts to assist the two hijackers, including moving them from Los Angeles to San Diego and helping them find an apartment and enter flight school. Telephone records would show that Bayoumi had been in close contact throughout the period with Thumairy, the Saudi diplomat in Los Angeles who was eventually detained and deported from the US on terrorism charges.

Bush should have invaded Arabia, not Iraq.
But Saddam had weapons of mass destruction and was about to use them on U.S. soil. Dubya had no choice, despite extremely flimsy 'evidence' and the UN inspectors finding squat.
Word on the street is Saddam was in the advanced stages of building a mini Death Star.

Dooms been talking about this for a minute now...I'm sure he'll go nuts in this thread.
We invaded Iraq because Saddam was supposedly holding WMDs, not because we thought he was involved in 9-11.
We did invade Afghanistan over 9-11 though.

bush and his administration officials repeatedly claimed there was a link between 9/11 and iraq

President Bush yesterday defended his assertions that there was a relationship between Saddam Hussein's Iraq and Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda, putting him at odds with this week's finding of the bipartisan Sept. 11 commission.
"The reason I keep insisting that there was a relationship between Iraq and Saddam and al Qaeda: because there was a relationship between Iraq and al Qaeda," Bush said after a Cabinet meeting. As evidence, he cited Iraqi intelligence officers' meeting with bin Laden in Sudan. "There's numerous contacts between the two," Bush said.

I'm sure there was some Al Queda in Iraq...maybe Bin Laden been through, IDK
I'm just saying that war was sold to the public with "WMDs"...not 9-11
Afghanistan was sold with 9-11

no doubt wmds were one of the ways they sold the iraq war. they also sold the war by associating iraq with 9/11, and talking about how we were "spreading democracy" and "will be greeted as liberators"

Former 9/11 commissioner drops bombshell about Saudi Arabia and those 28 pages
If true, the release of the 28 pages—which could come as early as June—would put enormous public strain on our alliance with Saudi Arabia and call into question why our government for so long has run cover for an archaic desert kingdom that constitutes the world’s number one terrorism funding source. The Guardian reports fierce disagreement inside the 9/11 commission, with executive director Philip Zelikow even firing an employee because she allegedly griped over the free pass being given to the Saudis. If that’s true, then Zelikow should spend the rest of this year being berated by congressional committees.

the 28 redacted pages about saudi arabia from the 9/11 commission report have been released http://intelligence.house.gov/sites/intelligence.house.gov/files/documents/declasspart4.pdf
TL;DR - Numerous individuals had connections to both the Saudi Government and the 9/11 hijackers. These links were not investigated due to "the scope of the inquiry" and the fact Saudi Arabia is a US "ally" (quotes added by the report, not me).

And yet we still do the work of Saudi Arabia in Syria and Yemen (the latter of which is never spoken of, but is a despicable bombing campaign by the Saudis which America has supported).

And the Uk has issued a stance of support for it only today. Unbelievable :facepalm

Here are some highlights from the report
A Saudi intelligence agent named Omar al-Bayoumi provided "substantial assistance" to the hijackers and met them inside of the Saudi consulate.
al-Bayoumi received payments from companies that had ties to bin Laden and al Qaeda.
Another alleged Saudi intelligence agent named Osama Bassman also gave direct aid to hijackers and worked with Bayoumi.
Bassman received money and possibly a fake passport from the Saudi government.
Bassman received assistance from the Saudi ambassador to the US.
Bassman was given a "significant amount of cash" a member of the Saudi Royal family in 2002.
Bassman is a known supporter of bin Laden, and has direct ties to other jihadist groups such as Eritrean Islamic Jihad.
An "accredited diplomat" named Shaykh al-Thumary was in contact with the hijackers. al-Thumary is a Shaykh at an anti-American mosque frequently attended by Saudi government employees at the consulate in Los Angeles.
A Saudi Interior Ministry official named Saleh Al Hussayen met with one of the hijackers in September, 2001.
One of Osama's half-brothers, a man named Abdullah Bin Laden, worked for the Saudi Embassy and has ties to Mohammad Atta and Marwan al-Shehhi, two of the hijackers. Atta is considered to be the ringleader of the hijackers.
Saudi government money was funneled through a mosque in California known as the Ibn Taymiyyah Mosque. (Note that Ibn Taymiyyah is a 12th century Islamic scholar who is considered one of the forefathers of jihadist thought.) The FBI believes that money was laundered to organizations affiliated with Osama bin Laden.
A Saudi named [redacted] with close ties to the Royal Family was involved in figuring out how to infiltrate individuals into the US.
A Senior al Qaeda operative captured in Pakistan is linked to Prince Bandar, the contemporary Saudi Ambassador to the United States.
A member of the Saudi intelligence service conducted a "dry run" hijacking in 1999.
The CIA separately found that the Saudi Government was funding and aiding al Qaeda members in the United States.
The Saudi intelligence agent al-Bayoumi let the hijackers stay in his apartment and helped them find housing in the United States.
al-Bayoumi co-signed their lease and paid their rent and security deposit (reminder - Bayoumi was being paid by both Saudi Intelligence and bin Laden)
al Bayoumi threw a party for two of the hijackers, provided them with a translator, and helped them get into flight school.
al Bayoumi had "extensive ties" to the Saudi Government. He was frequently in contact with the Emir at the Saudi Ministry of Defense, received funding, had his college paid for by the government, and was paid a monthly salary by the Ministry of Defense through September 11.
al Bayoumi made over 100 phone calls to Saudi Government establishments including three frequent contacts at the Saudi Embassy in DC (remember that Ambassador Bandar had ties to that senior AQ operative in Pakistan?). He also had contacts at the Saudi consulate in London.
Two CIA agents testified that al Bayoumi was a Saudi Intelligence operative.
An FBI agent testified that Bayoumi was a Saudi Intelligence operative.
While noting that [redacted], the FBI formally said that there is no evidence to tie him to Saudi intelligence.
The FBI received "reliable reports" that Bayoumi was a Saudi intelligence operative and received significant sums of money from the Saudi government. The FBI knew him as a possible operative "well before" 9/11.
Bayoumi once recieved a $400,000 check from Saudi Arabia.
Bayoumi was the subject of a terrorism investigation between 1998-1999.
The FBI had noted Bayoumi's ties to AQ and other terrorist networks before 9/11.
The FBI investigation found that Bayoumi was a jihadist and attempted to turn young people into jihadists.
al Bayoumi's pay increased after the hijackers showed up in the US. He had previously recieved a monthly "allowances" pay of $475, it jumped to $3700 after the hijackers arrived **and were lowered again the same month that the hijackers left San Diego (where Bayoumi was based.)
Al Bayoumi's wife received $1,200 a month from the wife of the Saudi Ambassador.
After staying with Bayoumi, TWO OF THE HIJACKERS LIVED WITH AN FBI INFORMANT.
Bassman, al Bayoumi's fellow alleged Saudi agent friend, was also in touch with two hijackers.
Bassman met two of the hijackers through al Bayoumi.
Bassman lived directly across from two hijackers.
Bassman has been tied to [redacted] and [redacted] and [redacted] (presumably Saudi intelligence) since at least 1992.

The world's plutocrats - and YES, that includes some from the US elite - are the ones who planned to at the very least allow something like this to happen, as a means to ramp up the highly profitable war machine and maintain stricter domestic control by the government.
Project For the New American Century (neocon think tank) put out a document BEFORE 9/11 saying they wanted to increase America's global influence and establish a strong presence in the middle east, but that could not happen unless some 'catastrophe' prompted it.
