View Full Version : Is Steph Curry a top 15 player of all time after GSW wins it all this year?

And assuming they get it right this time with the FMVP award.

2x Champion
1x Finals MVP
2x NBA MVP
3x All-Star
1x Scoring Champion

That's an impressive resume already. With his skill set and all, he can legit play until he's like damn near 40.

IF that occurs...his resume will be roughly on par with Willis Reed's, So, wherever you rank Reed, Curry should be close.

I have him around 25. Still below the likes of Wade, Dirk, Pippen, etc..

Factoring in his achievements these past couple of years, plus the insane peak he's reached, yes he absolutely is.

I think top 25, but not top 15 yet. His career has been good for like only 2 years, needs at least 5 good years to make it to top 15.

Some idiots here even would rank him over Kobe.

He is around 30-35 at the moment. With a couple of more seasons like this one...and then you can start making the Top-15-20 arguments.

So Curry would outplay Wilt on one leg too?

No shame in losing a FMVP at way past his prime and to a peak Reed in one of them...especially since he easily outplayed him in that one (and only four months removed from major knee surgery BTW.)

Which is a FAR greater accomplishment than a PEAK Shaq going 1-8 against Ostertag, and not even getting to the Finals in those two seasons.

BTW, Curry has missed CHUNKS of this post-season with a mildly bruised knee.

Put him in the '68 playoffs, where teams were playing three games in three nights, well...he likely would have missed the entire post-season with that "injury."

The overall body of work just isn't there yet. He's had a PHENOMENAL past 2 seasons, but he hasn't done enough yet to say he's had one of the top 15 NBA careers ever.

If LeBald could get in the top 15 in other posters minds through 2 asterisks, Curry sure as hell should be top 10 in every ISHers list. What he's done the past 2 seasons surpasses LeBalds career by a mile.

Though I am a big supporter of the longevity theory, I think the greatest tell tale of a players all-time position is by using this formula. Absolute peak (3 year sample). And how does that peak translate across era's (which requires unbiased imagination).

For instance Oscar wouldn't average a triple double in this day and time but neither would his handle or athleticism remain stuck in the 60's. The closest player we have to match oscars abilities in this day and time is Russell Westbrook, so if Oscar played today it would be similar to Westbrook but a better jumper and a more harden like approach to driving (I got that from a old black man who actually saw Oscar play live and he said the closest he's ever seen to oscars offensive ability was harden).

With all that said, I do believe that Steph makes it into the top 20, but We should reserve top 15 for at least one more year to get that 3 year sample of peak play. The top 15 are roughly this

Jordan
Kareem
Hakeem
Oscar
Magic
Kobe
Lebron
Wilt
Bird
Shaq
Duncan
Russell
Dr J
Moses
West
(My list but everyone has their own order)

Who do you take off that list? West is the easiest culprit to pick on but I believe that dude has the highest playoff average of alltime so he's no pushover. Again I say give him another year of similar play and he can definitely move up (and curry is my favorite player). For now if he wins a championship and a fmvp he does leapfrog a lot of the greats and lands between 16-20.

He's already being compared to Jordan on a regular basis. I think America may put him in the top 10 if he wins this year, but he's probably around the 15-20 mark right now. When it's all said and done, he'll definitely be top 10

To be fair, if LeBron's rings have an asterisk, Curry's lone ring sure as hell does too. :oldlol: If he wins it all this year, though, then that's another story. He's actually going through some legit competition in these next few rounds.

To be fair Curry broke new ground in the playoffs last year as well.

He was the first player to defeat all the other first team nba players besides himself.

He surpasses bran, beating him twice in the finals in a row, 2/2 in the finals, doesn't shrivel on the big stage or collude. No shit stains on his legacy unlike bran..

All bran has to show for all his colluding is 2 rings. He gets a free pass to the finals every year.. Soon to be 2/7:lol

Eligin Baylor's per 36 minute peak is something close to:

His playoff per 36 peak is probably around:

29/12/3.5

And he had a 40.7 point finals average in a three point 7 game series loss to the Celtics.

Realistically speaking.. I doubt he plays until 35-36 because of him being constantly prone to injuries, but with proper shot selection I can see him being a huge factor coming up to any age. Once a shooter, always a shooter.

Don't be surprised that most of today's 3-pointers are wide open - today's drive-and-kick offenses require 3-4 players standing behind the line on every play (spacing), so the defense is stretched out and can't make timely rotations most of the time.

Ultimately, today's teams use offensive schemes that maximize 3-point looks, so players shoot 3-pointers easier than ever before - specifically, driving and kicking for 3-pointers wasn't common or the staple of ANY team's offense until about 10 years ago.. Consequently, good 3-point shooters in the 80's and 90's didn't benefit from offenses that were based on their strength like today's 3-point shooters do.

Guys like Reggie Miller and Larry Bird had to run off screens for most of their 3-point looks - they didn't get to just stand there and wait for kickouts like today's player..
