Than Nick Anderson in game 1 of the 95 finals?
For those who don't know, he missed 4 free throws in a row with the Magic up 3 with 10 seconds left. And he was obviously a good shooter.
LeBron's game 4 of the 2011 Finals. A healthy superstar in his prime, mustering up only 8 points on 3/11 shooting in 45 minutes of play. That takes the cake.

Celtics won the series though. Nobody really remembers bad performances from great winners.
Is have to agree with Anderson though. That changes the whole series and possibly the whole dynamic of the NBA. Shaq probably stays if the magic are defending champions and the magic probably play better and have more confidence in them to take out Mike the next season. LA doesn't become a powerhouse just yet and the Spurs win more titles probably without Phil going to LA.
Think about that.

The sad thing is that Nick the Brick was a coach with Orlando helping Howard learn to shoot freethrows when Howard was there :facepalm

it's a hard sell to say he was a good shooter
He was around a 35% 3 point shooter with the standard 3 point line, the only time he posted some solid percentages around the 40% mark is with the shortened line in the mid to late 90's.
He has a career FT percentage of 67%
I don't think it's not going too far out on a limb to say anderson was not a good shooter
still a huge choke though

Yep.
It just completely took the wind out of the sails of a young team that was clearly superior to Houston that year.
He makes ONE out of the 4 FTs, they probably win that series and come out looking at a true dynasty.
And you're right, shaq probably doesn't go to LA if Anderson makes ONE OUT OF FOUR FREE THROWS.

You right. Although the year he hit over 40% of his threes was the 95 season I believe.
But from what I gather he was a big time shooter. Generally made them when it counted. At least that season.

yea I agree, it wasn't like he was dwight or drummond out there...he was capeable of sinking a few free throws
it was one of the bigger chokes ever

He was psychologically affected by that though. He was 70% FT shooter through 95. For the rest of his career he was a 61% FT shooter. He clearly wasn't the same after that.
Answer to the question is Lebron in 2011 though. Nick Anderson's choke job was for a moment. Lebron's was the majority of a series. And it was unprecedented.

2011 finals.
Just stop, OP.
Everyone knows that was the biggest choke in NBA history and it happened over the course of an entire series.

You can't choke when you win a title.
WTF is wrong with you, Bransvestite?
You play the game to WIN. You do NOT play the game to look cool.

How does one choke whilst winning? And this is a stupid thing to post, as you don't see Bird's full statline. He could've had 8/15/12 for all we know, which isn't an uncommon statline for Bird, the greatest SF ever.

I guess it comes down to how you think about it.
Lebrons 2011 choke was a superstar melting under pressure and being unable or unwilling or probably both, to step up and perform as the type of player that he was. It was absolutely unprecedented, but it didn't change the course of the franchise. They won the next two years and all was well.
Nick Anderson, on the other hand, had to perform the simplest task in basketball one time in four attempts and couldn't do it. And because he couldn't do it, it basically ruined his career and ruined the Orlando organization in general.
They're both bad but a shooting guard unable to hit a free throw to close out a finals game takes the cake for me.
And hopefully people don't think this thread is to deflect from Lebron. That was 5 years ago and I really didn't/don't give a shit either way.

Well for the task at hand, i.e. winning a title, Lebron's was worse. What happened after that season isn't that relevant IMO.
And I don't know if that really "ruined" the Orlando organization. The insane lowball offer to Shaq and Penny's injuries is what ruined them. And IMO, Houston still wins that series regardless. Going from losing in a sweep to winning the entire series just based on those free throws is a stretch to me. Houston had the best player, they were more experienced and battle tested, they had won the previous 3 series without HCA, and generally teams as young as those Magic don't win titles.

That said....Nick Anderson's choke job was the biggest I've ever seen.

Probably not. If nba was math only without the human element, missing 4 straight with his free throw percentage is probably the most statistically improbable choke that has ever occurred.
