Rockets passed Michael Jordan

Ultimately, Durant landed on a team that provided more help - Durant gets outscored by Westbrook in various playoff series, while Jordan scored at least 10 ppg more than Pippen for every playoff series of their careers (edit: there was 1 series where Jordan outscored Pip by 7 ppg, and another series by 5 ppg)
Remember - no all-time great led their team in scoring for every playoff series of their careers, EXCEPT Jordan, who led his team by at least 10 ppg for every series.. Let that sink in - Jordan was on another level

Rockets passed Michael Jordan
For Hakeem though. That was totally justifiable at the time. And it's still not a bad decision.
What the Rockets could have done is traded Sampson for Portland's second pick.
Imagine a Jordan/Hakeem dynasty. They likely could have gotten Drexler as well, since Sampson was highly valued at the time, and Portland wanted a big bad enough to pass on Jordan.
The Rockets could have had Hakeem, Jordan and Drexler. So you either play Drexler at SF, or trade him for another piece. Stockton was drafted later in that draft.
Of course hindsight and all. Rockets thought they had a unique thing with the twin towers. And if Sampson hadn't been injury prone, who knows.
But man, Rockets could have started the 84 season with Jordan, Hakeem and Stockton. Imagine what that team could have accomplished. That's like if the Celtics drafted Russell, Jones and Hondo in the same draft.

The trade was Sampson for the #2, Drexler, and Fat Lever.
pg - Lever
sg - Jordan
sf - Drexler
pf - some guy off the street
c - Hakeem
Not one, not two, not three, not four.....

The Blazers have not had a lot of luck with centers. Walton, Bowie, Sabonis, Oden. All got hurt.
