In the 84 draft, they took Hakeem #1. Portland wanted a big very badly, and they had drafted Drexler the year before, so they passed on Jordan for Bowie, as every knows.
But what Portland would most likely have been willing to do is trade their second pick for Ralph Sampson along with Clyde Drexler.
Then the Rockets are starting out with Hakeem, Jordan and Drexler as rookies. If Drexler and Jordan were too similar, they could have traded Drexler for another piece.
Like maybe another draft pick before the 16th pick, which was John Stockton.
Then you would have a backcourt of Stockton/Jordan teamed up with Olajuwon.
Imagine the devastation. Lakers dynasty would have ended sooner.
