View Full Version : Spoelstra is a hard dude to understand

He used Amare as a starting center throughout the season, only to almost not play at all in the playoffs. That means he used someone who is not even good enough to crack the bench rotation as a starter.

He is more comfortable playing Haslem, probably the worst player in NBDL at this point, at center than playing Whiteside. He yanks Whiteside every time but when the opponents are scoring at will over Haslem, he says he still trusted Haslem's sacrifice and purity. I do not even know what they are.

He gives Wade all the free passes in the world because he has earned the right to do it. At one point he missed 24 consecutive 3 pointers, but Spo still gave the final game tying 3 pointer to Wade over other guys that were hot, because it was about time.

I agree with Spoelstra on this one. McRoberts/Deng are probably better at defending the 4 and the 5 than Stoudemire.

He also started Justise "Midget at Center" Winslow against Bismack "Not Quite As Midgety at C" Biyombo...

that didn't work. At all.

I'm not going to harshly judge a man who just coached this 25 win team (talent wise with the injuries) to Game 7 of the second round.

He had very limited options at the big positions. We had NO chance winning with our backup bigs playing alot, we had to take a risk and go small with better players.

Some people are very hard to please.

Dragic, Wade, Whiteside (until the last game), Deng, Johnson are NOT a 25-win team in the East no matter how you want to spin it. No way. They had as much talent as any non-Cavs team in the East. Unless you want to make the argument that a team with guys like Walker/Lin/Lee is more talented?

Nah, the Heat performed right around where they were expected to. 2nd round to Conference-finals.

How the hell is this a 25 win team when he has Wade, Bosh, and Dragic? He also has a center and Deng is a nice piece?

And he coaches in the "worst conference of all time"?

Why is it that Spo continues to get a pass?

This man is completely in over his head and yet retains his job yet Pat Riley fired (basically) Van Gundy who was 100x better than Spo...

Deng? You mean Bosh...

Whiteside and Bosh just got hurt. How the hell is the Miami Heat a 25 win team?

And Wade, Deng, and Dragic should be more than enough to win 45+ games "in the worst conference of all time."

Stop making excuses for a coach that almost always underachieves.

Without Lebron he is just a below average coach.

The Heat just had a season of earning a 3 seed, winning a playoff series, and pushing a 56 win team to 7 games, and they did it without Bosh for half the season and without Whiteside for the majority of the ECSF. They were so shorthanded they were forced to play a 6'7 rookie at center. They also featured the oldest pair of starting wings in the league.

I've criticized Spo plenty over the years, but this was probably his best coaching job ever. A lot of people had them missing the playoffs when Bosh went down. The Heat overachieved this year, and pretty much everyone within NBA circles has acknowledged it.
