And why can't you do both? Living an even slightly social single life takes up far more of your time than being in a loving relationship where each helps the other to pursue their respective goals, and where each understands the other's need to spend their time working rather than together. Not to mention the money that can be saved from cohabitation and rarely going out/spending money doing so (if you don't have children, that is). It also frees you up from the major concern and distraction for young men (i.e. women, and caring about what women think, how they perceive you, etc.).

The only real problem is if you get good job opportunities in different places.

It really is good advice to focus on yourself first, discover who it is that you are in this world, develop a craft, and then meet somebody that suits your needs.
