View Full Version : Reason Barkley hates small ball is because he would just destroy it

It has to bother him hearing all this when it just wouldn't work on a guy like him. Could you imagine Harrison Barnes or Draymond Green attempting to guard Barkely?

Those guys are just as tall if not taller than Barkley

That doesn't mean they can guard him.

I've said it since FOREVER!!!

The league right now is PERFECTLY TAILORED for Golden State because there are no more punishing dominant low post players!!!

Go back to the 80's and 90's when ALL CONTENDING TEAMS had a dominant low post player like Moses, Kareem, McHale, Olajuwon, Robinson, Ewing, Karl Malone, Barkley, Shaq, Sampson etc... The Warriors little "small death lineup" would take just as much as they give out in that era plus those guys could put two to three players in foul trouble quick.

That's why I always laugh when people go gaga over Draymond's and LeBron "defensive versatility" to guard 4's and 5's. LOL!!!! I would love to see them guard Kareem, Olajuwon, Moses, Shaq or McHale for 40+ minutes in a 7 game series. Can you say MURDER!!!

And I would LOooove to see McHale in a Dray/Curry PnR 25 feet from the hoop. The whole point is that while McHale would kill them, he would get crushed on the other side of the court worse. And GSW would get to chip him on the block.

There is a reason there aren't any great post up players any more. And its not because they don't exist on any level. Its because the rules made them easier to guard on one side of the floor and they have no hope on the defensive side of the floor.

Robinson and Hakeem are the exceptions in that they would be incredible in this age as their feet can move.

Well, Barkley is one of the all time great power forwards, and he was undersized height-wise for a power forward.

Wrong on many points Hurricane!

Post play started dying off in the mid 1990's! Tim Duncan was the last true great back to basket player and he was drafted in 1997!!! 5 full years before any rule changes!!! The league and the WORLD fell in love with Michael Jordan and perimeter play thus the supposed "big men" that came into the league in the mid 90's aside from Duncan were guys like Webber, Dirk, Wallace and Garnett who were more comfortable facing up along with a slew of Jordan wannabe's in Iverson, Kobe, T-Mac, Marbury, Francis, Vince, Baron Davis made the league HEAVILY perimeter oriented.

Big guys from the early 90's and before learned how to DOMINATE IN THE NCAA!!! Where there is a TRUE ZONE, without much spacing and for most of the time with no 3 POINT SHOT!!! Believe they would have NO PROBLEM scoring on today's soft zone, undersized defenders and ticki-tack rules!!!

First of all teams from the 1980's are NOT going to commit double teams 25+ away from the basket, one on one was the name of the game during that period. So Steph might (and would have to) go for 40+ but Dray's lumbering as! is going to have a hand, elbow and body in his mug all game long and is going to be forced to create for himself!!! Not his game at ALL!!!

Anyway, Dray would probably be in foul trouble before halftime guarding ANY OF THE DOMINANT BIG MEN FROM THE 80'S!!! Can't do a PR 25 feet away from the hoop if you're SITTING ON THE BENCH WITH FOUL TROUBLE!!!

Um Jordan was possibly the most EFFICIENT PERIMETER PLAYER and overall GREATEST PLAYER in the history of the NBA! Put him with a prime Scottie and Phil Jackson and that was enough to dominate the 1990's. None of the contending teams that featured a dominant post player as their best player, Knicks, Spurs, Suns, Rockets, Jazz, Magic or Heat had second best player as good as Scottie Pippen or a coach as great as Phil and that made ALL THE DIFFERENCE!

And before you say the Piston Bad Boys, that team was INCREDIBLY DEEP with 5 all-star players on it, 4 to 5 guys who could give you 20+ points on any given night and not the mention the MOST INTIMIDATING AND PHYSICAL defense of all time!

Yeah, Malone and the Jazz certainly didn't have help. Stockton and Sloan were worthless

Still not Pippen and Malone my man!

The best players the Jazz had besides Karl Malone and Stockton in their tenure in Utah were in order:

1) Mark Eaton
2) Thurl Bailey
3) Older Jeff Hornacek

Let that sink in for a moment! Yeah they were LOADED!!! LOL!

Adams and Kanter are strong post players and they just murdered small ball yesterday. Kanter can switch on to Curry all day long and it doesn't matter, OKC will still have the advantage.

This is false. Just look at 1995. Sure Jordan might've been rusty but the real problem with the bulls was the hole Horace Grant left. Dennis Rodman filled the shoes and they got back to winning. There is no way MJ + Pippen + PJ and a bunch of scrubs = championships. MJ's #1 but the Bulls had a good post presence (not as great as everyone else in the 90s, but still something).

Again the 90's Bulls would've still won 6 titles with ANY second tier rebounding PF like a Buck Williams, Otis Thorpe or Charles Oakley, that position was interchangeable, Jordan and Pippen were not!

Klay, Steph and Kerr have a looooooooooooongggg way to go to reach Jordan, Pippen and Jackson status my friend!!!

And besides Jordan and Pippen's scoring style resembled A LOT more that of dominant 7 footers rather than 3 point shooting small guards as they lived for shots 18 feet in!

Don't even get me started on the DEFENSIVE TERROR!!! Jordan and Pippen represented. Steph and Klay are WAY BELOW them in that department.
