All I know is Sara smile is one of the 10-20 smoothest songs ever made.

I see his point about American culture being a blend, but let's not act like white people aping and diluting black artistic expression isn't a very real phenomena that many black people have a right to take issue with.

Just something else for people to pretend to be mad about. There is one thing that matters when you make a song....is it good? Any black guy mad because Gary Moore or Eric Clapton played the blues is probably a ****ing idiot who doesnt appreciate them anyway.
In America we have people eating Korean BBQ for lunch, driving a car from Germany, drinking french wine, speaking a language thats a mashup of 3 others, from states settled and named by Native Americans (actually from Asia), watching a tv made in Japan, getting on a phone from china, to complain on facebook about a white girl singing a song and stretching out a few words like Aretha Franklin while their girlfriends have Brazillian hair, and blue contacts, and wanna go take Salsa lessons on nights they dont do Yoga.
America is exactly what he described. We all take from eachother. Hell we all take from the world. Im not bothered by Amy Winehouse singing what sounds like a motown hit.
Im bothered by people making music that sucks.
Just be good at it. **** the rest.

What is "black music" anyway? As if African Americans just came up with something out of scratch with absolutely no influence from the previous 3000+ years of European civilization which America is an extension of?
The origins of "black music" in America is really just an evolution of Celtic folk music with some elements of native African music.
I just love this idea that black people can "ape" any part of European culture, but once a black person touches something, it's now off limits for anybody that's white. Even if the thing is originally European.
Just to put into perspective the stupidity of this... The piano is an instrument of European (the area that is now Italy) origin. Just imagine a white person actually trying to argue that blacks shouldn't play piano because it's "appropriating white culture". I you think that's a reasonable argument... you might be a retard and probably a racist.

.
Blacks in America " appropriated' nothing & had others religion, language ,etc violently forced upon them . They created something uniquely "Black" from what was forced upon them.
Because they were stripped of most everything they knew culturally / musically there is little wonder Blacks in the Americas are always at the forefront of the next musical ideas from Ragtime, Jazz ,Blues ,Rock, Hip Hop, etc or Samba, Son & other popular polyrhythmic music of Latin America.
(Did the same with " Black " religious movements of the Americas from Santeria , Voodoo , Candomble,etc....)
Even the Banjo was initially an attempt at slaves attempting to recreate an African instrument, but now it screams White! & HillBilly!
The Banjos "Black" origins mostly forgotten. Those concerned about this are probably overreacting to something like that happening again .

Who knows what color the people who invented the flute were? Who gives a shit? No other group of people does this. Japanese don't run around telling people that nobody else is allowed to eat sushi. Italians don't tell people they aren't allowed to eat Italian food or be ballet dancers. No German person has gotten pissed off because they saw a black guy eating a pretzel and drinking a German beer.
All the "black people were brought here against their will" arguments... Nobody cares. You don't want something spreading? Don't sell it. You sell your music, it will spread and become a popular kind of music.
European people have contributed so much more to the world than all other groups of people combined. So, if you enjoy all that modern medicine, technology, enlightenment, freedom, entertainment, etc... Don't complain about white people borrowing your scraps like ethnic food, music, etc...

And you simply failed to adress your asinine claims that Blacks have ' appropriated' anything when a culture was violently forced upon them & theirs stripped away.
Yes , the Jazz of Louis Armstrong, Buddy Bolden ,etc..... is ' Black Music' just as Haitian Voudon is a ' Black religion.
The Blues of Muddy Waters , Robert Johnson's etc.....is ' Black Music just as Santeria is a Black religion( Afro Brazilian).
Are you gonna deny Haitian Voudon ,Santeria or Brazilian Candombe aren't ' Black Religious experiences either? They are a syncretism of the Catholicism forced upon them & African animist beliefs .
Blacks created something culturally their own musically & religiously speaking when the only thing they knew was stripped from them.
And did I mention that Blacks in the Americas appropriated' nothing, but had another culture forced upon them? Out of it they made something uniquely their own.
Odd that you'd melt so hard over 'Black music' ( the subject at hand).

People like this is what is wrong in America.
How about American music? You should quit trying to divvy up what 'belongs' to who.

Reject white culture. You see it, nows your chance. Reject medicine and technology. Get back to your roots.
Everybody influences everybody with music. "White music" has been strongly influenced by "black music", "black music" has been strongly influenced by "white music". This is all pretty obvious.

They shouldn't take issue with it. They should want as many people to experience it as possible throughout the world. With that comes some lame and silly stuff, but the talent infusion from so many varied cultures and people far outweighs any negatives. Most of the musicians complaining about it certainly aren't complaining when some white or Asian kid shells out crazy money for a concert ticket, hat, shirt and more. People seem to want and expect the exposure, fame and money, but nothing else.

Apparently american blacks are the only people to ever have a culture forced upon them

Apparently american blacks are the only people to ever have a culture forced upon them
but usually that kind of thing happens through conquest, with the conquered culture creating a fairly benign blend with the new one, mostly because the whole thing functions a lot more smoothly for everyone that way.
having it happen via slavery or diaspora is probably the shittiest way possible a culture can be forced upon you. in that case, -you- must be the one to fit in to what's already there, and few give a damn about your rights or welfare.

Did I claim that? Perhaps you missed that my entire point was that I don't believe in the concept of appropriation at all. I've made no such claim. You made that up.
