View Full Version : A New Poll Finds The Majority Of Native Americans Aren

Across every demographic group, the vast majority of Native Americans say the team’s name does not offend them, including 80 percent who identify as politically liberal, 85 percent of college graduates, 90 percent of those enrolled in a tribe, 90 percent of non-football fans and 91 percent of those between the ages of 18 and 39.

Even 9 in 10 of those who have heard a great deal about the controversy say they are not bothered by the name. What makes those attitudes more striking: The general public appears to object more strongly to the name than Indians do. In a 2014 national ESPN poll, 23 percent of those reached called for “Redskins” to be retired because of its offensiveness to Native Americans — more than double the 9 percent of actual Native Americans who now say they are offended by it. A 2013 Post poll found that a higher proportion of Washington-area residents — 28 percent — wanted the moniker changed.

90% don't give a ****, 9% are offended, and 1% don't care.

Best part is bolded. Even though they aren't offended, some think they should be.

Yeah it's weird. I don't think i've ever heard of anyone use that word when they get mad at a native american and want to offend them. So its not even used in a bad way ever. So why would it offend anyone.

The ugly truth is that groups who find the most negativity in labels and words are the ones most insecure about themselves

Yea, if Black people get offended if they're called a ni**er or a Spanish person is called a sp*c they're just insecure about themselves. :facepalm

Just shut up.

I have been against the logo myself but if that's how they feel about it then it's not an issue worth arguing anymore. I still wouldn't use the term but there's little point in arguing that the team name is offensive if such a strong majority of Native Americans don't mind.

I actually think the logo is not offensive at all...

But I could see how the team name could be seen as offensive by some of the more sensitive types. I didn't expect 90% to not find it offensive though, that's huge.

Correct...

90% don't find it offensive, and 1% don't watch football.

This demonstrates what most observant people already knew: that the anti-racist crusade and hysteria has been a creation and obsession of pampered and guilt-ridden white gentry liberals.

Most people from minority groups don't really give a shit about this over-sensitive nonsense, except when they are impelled to do so by the white liberal gentry class, which unfortunately dominates the media and other outlets of propaganda that are telling them constantly what terrible victims they are, and how they ought to be offended by everything.

But why keep a team name that still offends 10%?

Also, the poll says "Among the Native Americans reached over a five-month period ending in April, more than 7 in 10 said they did not feel the word

Also, the poll says "Among the Native Americans reached over a five-month period ending in April, more than 7 in 10 said they did not feel the word “Redskin” was disrespectful to Indians." That means up to 30% of them find it disrespectful, but maybe simply have thick enough skin to not be personally offended.
Because 10% probably find Obama offensive too...

Pander to the vocal minority? We'll ban everything, which is where we're headed anyway.

Or 3 out of 10 don't have an opinion?

We're not talking about a political position in which it is impossible to make everybody happy. We are talking about a stupid sports names. If every other team can come up with a name that offends nobody, why is it so important for Washington to keep a name that does offend people, majority or not.

The logo is an exact depiction of what Native Americans used to look like.

Hell, they still dress up like this today.

We are talking about changing ANYTHING that anyone finds offensive.

The list will go on forever.

If you give a mouse a cookie, right? At what point do you say 'too bad'? If we asked everyone across the country 'what offends you', you'll get 10 million different answers. So do we ban all 10 million of those things?

A professor in CA finds the American flag offensive. Do we ban the flag or do you tell him too bad? Does his opinion matter to you or not? If he gets 20 other people to say it's offensive, then does it matter? How about 100? 1000? What's the cut off point?

I find the name "New England Patriots" offensive. It implies that all the other teams aren't patriots.

Something tells me that it was lefty white people and their lawyers that created this whole non-controversy. Something also tells me that they really don't care about the Native Americans anyway, it's self serving and a way to make some money too.

Probably because they have bigger issues to worry about, like the rampant drug and alcohol abuse and gang violence on Reservations.

You'd think liberals would be more concerned about that as well...

But then you have to admit there's a problem, and that's not allowed.
