Best hood movies

Paid in Full and New Jack City are probably my two favorites. Training Day is good but I consider it more of a cop film than a hood film. What's ISH's picks?

I've only really seen Menace 2 Society, Boyz N the Hood, Training Day.

I've yet to watch New Jack City and Paid in Full (I heard Pain in Full was the best NY hood film besides maybe American Gangster since the movie is based off of Frank Lucas selling heroin in the ghetto of 70s Harlem).

Ranking wise of movies I've seen:

1. Boyz N the Hood (well done, ppl forget Gooding was a really good actor before his falloff in the 2000s. Most realistic of LA of the 90s hood movies)
2. Menace 2 Society (I liked it a lot but it seemed way too overdramatic of LA at the time. I really doubt Watts was that wild back in 1993. But to an extent, I will say Oakland when I visited in 1997/1998 looked a bit like Watts. Ppl at corners, people racing, and seeing "fly" cars and choppers flying around the city 24/7. The violence in this movie though at times seemed unrealistic especially when that crackhead was killed in broad daylight and no one even flinched it seemed).
3. Training Day (So I think this movie tried way too hard at times to make the whole day planned out by Denzel's was very intricate. This movie I think would have been done better if it was like one series of a TV show. I feel the story had way more to it than those few hours).

Correct. City of God is a great movie but not a (US) hood movie. Same reason that I wouldn't consider District 9 as Levity said.
