Northeast Ohio is being blanketed by one of the nastiest looking insects you will ever see.

They arrive every 17 years from the depths of hell, leaving a discarded shell in their wake.

They are obviously harmless except for the fact that they give zero f#cks about invading your personal space and are the worst drivers on the insect superhighway. It isn't uncommon for one to fly 50mph right into your face or land on you for no discernible reason.

Right now, my back deck is literally brimming with these little buggers. I counted 20 on one of my lawn chairs.

Anyone else infested?

They're annoying as balls and they're normal down in Texas in the summer.

When it's hot as hell and you're outside and irritable, the sound a cicada makes can almost tip you over the edge.

Yeah, their mating call is just a constant, very loud pulsating echo of screams. It's enough to keep you up at night.

Those are some ugly insects. Am glad there aren't any around my way. I wonder how many my cats would kill tho.

I hear them every day in my backyard. You almost don't notice it until you realize it's all you hear. It can drive you mad.

When I lived in Cincinnati we would get 13 and 17 year cicadas. We had them when I was really young and don't remember. I moved before they ever came back.

I live in Vegas, we mostly get random locust jumping around and lizards in the summer time
