He'd be batshit crazy to join a lottery team...its Thunder or some team in the east.
Won't completely rule out Russ joining in 2017, tho

Randle, Durant, George, Clarkson, Russell won't be no lottery team, haha.
Probably top 3 seed out west.
PG & KD would be a better duo than Westbrook. Russell, Clarkson and Randle will only get better.

Durant is sick of mid-major small-market teams.
He's going to join the Lakers where he won't have to worry about a crazy insecure Westbrook and win a few titles in star town

Why? They got Ingram.
Exactly. Getting KD wouldn't turn the Lakers into a championship squad right away, so there's no point in stunting Ingram's growth as a player.
We just need to focus on getting a center (preferably Horford) and more defensive minded players.

The Laker locker room may as well be the embassy in Benghazi in September 2012. The cavalry is not coming to save them. Even mercenaries DGAF.
If the Lakers double their win total from last year, they will likely still miss being the 8th seed in the playoffs by 6 or more games.
The Lakers have an image problem IMHO. KD wouldn't even give them the courtesy of a meeting. Why should he? If he tried to use evidence of having a meeting with them as a bargaining chip, he would not have been taken seriously.
Let's be honest, Jim Buss could F.U.B.A.R. a wet dream. . . . . . Consistently. . . . . Day after day.
The Lakers would have had a better chance of getting a meeting with KD if they had replaced Jim Buss (and Mitch Kupchak) with three monkeys and a dart board as their new brain trust/decision making team moving forward.
jameer has 40K+ posts, and I never thought I would agree with anything he posted, but his posts here have actually been lucid and on point :wtf:
The big signing of the summer is a guy that is still trying to shame-shower Blake Griffin's 5 year old DNA from his ear socket.
If they don't turn this thing around pronto, any of the team's draft picks that do turn out to be stars will be exiting stage left as soon as their contracts allow.
Yay team :facepalm

Very objective Laker fan post... I actually agree 100% with you, you're not like the other "16 CHAMPIONSHIPZ" Laker fans. I have no problem with the Lakers organization, and I don't hate their players or history at all. I'm a Clipper fan, I wish the Lakers luck and hope that they can bounce back.
You hit the nail on the head, Jim Buss is the big problem. He has shown he's very different than his father (Jerry used to make crazy deals, keep his best players, etc). Jim's ego didn't allow him to sign Phil Jackson, and instead sign Mike Brown, Mike D'Antoni, and Byron Scott. Makes absolutely no sense.
There's a term for teams that are in this state, as a player... and it's called "career suicide". It's where you go as a player, put up empty stats, and completely lose your credibility and worth. As of right now, that's what the Lakers are offering (career suicide), and it's no wonder Durant didn't even want a meeting.
Once Jim Buss puts his pride aside and lets Jeanie take over (that's MY fix, don't know how accurate this would be but it's worth a shot to guess), I think the Lakers will be back to their old ways. Being a franchise that players would love to go to, being competitive and winning championships, and sparing no expense to be the best.

I think he will jettison Mitch Kupchak as a sacrificial offering to try to appease the pitchfork wielding masses in an effort to buy himself more time before he even entertains the notion of stepping down. He won't hire basketball people to do the job because he thinks he's a basketball person. He refuses to get out of his own way.
The only way I could see him recovering any credibility (while still being the guy in charge) would be for him to cede control of basketball related decisions to someone else, and I just don't see that happening.
Remember when superstars used to regularly mention the Lakers as their preferred destination?
I do, but just barely. It's been a while, and it will continue to be that way for the foreseeable future until something changes significantly. As poorly as the team has performed on the floor, their biggest problem doesn't wear a uniform, and is not on their coaching staff.
Pretty sad that being considered mediocre would be a serious upgrade from the present. Jim's credibility is already headed for the ocean (if you live in SoCal, you know what that means), and Jeanie's is now eroding steadily for letting this continue for too long.
The Los Angeles Lakers can't even get a meeting with KD. When that happens, that is bad. Yes, it's currently that bad.
That's like when a cross-dressing crackhead hooker won't get in the car with you to even hear how much money you want to offer them. The cross-dressing crackhead hooker already knows that's where they draw the line. That's how bad it is.
Wake up and at least acknowledge what is happening. You can't fix a problem that you won't admit exists in the first place, and you can't fix it using the same mindset that got you there in the first place :banghead: :hammerhead: :banghead: :hammerhead:

. . . . . Why was this ignored
JB facilitated that problem by offering that contract in the first place. KB didn't hold a gun to JB's head. Why did that contract have to get done in December (not even close to the end of the year)?
:biggums:
Everyone but JB knew that was a bad deal from jump street.
:coleman:
It crippled the franchise then, and into the foreseeable future.
Admittedly, KB's alleged high basketball IQ should have been able to figure that out as well. Total BS that they think we were supposed to believe that they could give KB so much of the pie, and expect to put a contender on the floor around him.
:biggums:
This is why JB has no credibility. He is either so full of crap that if you gave him an enema, he would disappear OR he's working with an IQ that's lower then his age. . . . . . OR both.
:biggums:

And nobody forced lebron to take a paycheck when he was with the heat, in order to help out his team. Nobody forced Duncan to take multiple payouts as a spur, to help out his team. Nobody forced Shaq to take a payout in 2005, in order to pay Payton and Walker and win a title.
Kobe said, going into the negotiations, that he had no intention of taking any paycut and the that he was going in there to get every cent he can. They thought they couldn't afford to let him go and jeanie bus approved the most ridiculous contract in recent basketball history which crippled the Lakers and turned away many other free agents. There's a reason the Colin Cowherd's of the world had her on his radio show and embarassed and humiliated her in national radio by mocking her decision while she sat there, clueless, not having a proper answer to anything he said.
Kobe chose the money rather than helping his team. He lived with the results which is the 2 single worst seasons in Lakers history back to back. Free agents were turned out from the 19 win team and nobody is interested in signing. Any team that pays Kobe Bryant as much as they did (after feeling like they were forced to do so) lack proper direction, in the eyes of many free agents.
It might be a combination but the biggest cancer in Lakers history has done his damage and retired after completely tarnishing the Lakers brand, the effects of which are still being felt.
