View Full Version : What's up with this "Ordan" bullshit?

MJ was known as one of the greatest midrange jump shooters ever. Hell, the man basically shot .500 from the field his career (only reason he was below 50% was because of his two seasons with the Wizards when he was well past his prime).

Ason Kidd? Yeah, that made sense, as Kidd's jumper wasn't reliable. Irk? That, too, since Dirk wasn't know as a great defender.

But this Ordan nonsense? I know you fggts can't be that stupid with this shit. :facepalm

it's not to insult his jumper. It's just a variation of Ilt and other nicknames. Just a coincidence his name starts with a J.

Maybe because he was a horrible 3 point shooter :confusedshrug:

And his midrange was good but never elite, overall it was slightly worse than LeBrons.

So shitty 3 pointer + decent midrange = Ordan :confusedshrug:

Because shooting isnt just mid range

If Lebron had a J in his name people would do the same shit

Luckily he has an L so people often call him Ebron

Jordan's midrange was good but never elite, overall it was slightly worse than LeBrons.

NBA.com's stats show that Jordan's midrange was far better than Curry's

JORDAN 1997:. 49.3%, 1202 fga

CURRY.. 2015:. 41.1%, 285 fga
CURRY.. 2016:. 42.5%, 200 fga

Not even close - Jordan shoots far better on 6 times the volume

.
..NBA.COM'S STATS ON
"MIDRANGE" EFFICIENCY
..(all shots inside 3-pt line but outside paint)

........................Midrange Efficiency .

M Jordan. 1997 (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/893/stats/shooting/?Season=1996-97&SeasonType=Regular%20Season):.. 48.9%.. 588/1202
M Jordan. 1998 (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/893/stats/shooting/?Season=1997-98&SeasonType=Regular%20Season):.. 43.2%.. 476/1101

Curry.... 2016 (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/201939/stats/shooting/?Season=2015-16&SeasonType=Regular%20Season):.... 42.5%... 85/200

Lebron.. 2016 (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/2544/stats/shooting/?Season=2015-16&SeasonType=Regular%20Season):.... 37.1%... 96/259

D Wade.. 2016 (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/2548/stats/shooting/?Season=2015-16&SeasonType=Regular%20Season):... 36.4%.. 143/393

Derozan. 2016 (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/201942/stats/shooting/?Season=2015-16&SeasonType=Regular%20Season):... 37.5%.. 183/488

Butler. 2016 (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/202710/stats/shooting/?Season=2015-16&SeasonType=Regular%20Season):....... 35.9%.. 113/315

Westbrook 2015 (http://stats.nba.com/player/#!/201566/stats/shooting/?Season=2014-15&SeasonType=Regular%20Season):. 36.9%.. 164/445

Lebron, Westbrook, Wade, Derozan and Butler ALL have poor midrange and 3-point efficiency, but they're still top scorers because today's spacing and hands-off defense allows good athletes easier access to the rim.

MJ's athleticism would benefit the same way, except he had goat midrange efficiency, even better than Curry's (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showpost.php?p=12373019&postcount=26), which gives him a massive advantage over non-shooters Lebron, Westbrick and company.. MJ had Lebron/Westbrook's athleticism, with better midrange shooting than Steph Curry.. That's the goat

Broken down, 40 year old Jordan is almost 10 percentage points higher than Bran on the 10-16 range.

People who think that he's a poor 3-point shooter, although he shot 0.02% worse than Kobe, who many consider a great 3-point shooter.

"Ordan" is truly a baffling way to insult Jordan. I guess everyone today is so high on three pointers, that the ability to be an all time great mid-range shooter is looked down upon. :facepalm

The thing is Jordan clearly didn't focus on threes that much, yet he still had some really big games/shots with them. He hit multiple game winning/tying three pointers in his career, in both the regular season and playoffs. He obviously had game 1 with 6 threes in the first half in the 92 Finals, but he shot well and a good number of threes throughout that series, not just game 1. He hit the go ahead three against Utah in 97 with less than a minute that ended up winning the game. And he also shot quite well from three point range in his first four championships, between .385 and .403. Didn't shoot well in 97 and 98 overall, but he was 34 and 35, when players' really legs start to go. Bottom line is that while no one thought of Jordan as a premier three point shooter in the 80's and 90's, everyone knew he could be dangerous from there and hit the big shots from three when needed.

As others have said, Jordan had really quite good form from three point range. If he had really focused on them like today's players, he would have been significantly better. But a preoccupation with three pointers also may have detracted from his other scoring strengths, and that's why he didn't worry about threes that much.

How the **** is he a horrible 3 pt shooter when he takes like 1-2 of them per game??? He's clearly stated that he didn't feel like he needed to add the 3 ball to his game so he never attempted it as much as today's players...
