Who do you all think was treated worse when they first came to America, the Irish or the Italians?

Also, when in American history did they stop being discriminated against? How did they get accepted by WASP?

Americans were right to be skeptical about Italian immigration. They did bring that whole mafia thing with them which resulted in decades of massive corruption and crime.

Italians. They are hairy and have darker skin than the Irish. Nobody is never not discriminated against. People just hide it better. Shows like Jersey Shore and Honey Boo-Boo don't help.

Um, Massive corruption and crime was already happening on a grand, grand scale. Irish gangsters and then Jewish gangsters dominated before the Italians arrived.

What the Italians brought to it, was a way to keep a criminal structure going even if the leaders were arrested, a way for the organization to be passed down without interruption and a way to organize nationally.

Yeah, America already had its own problems. Why import more?

The Irish were because they came earlier (1800's) in large numbers.

By the time Italians came in in large numbers (early 1900's), you had all kinds of immigrants coming in from Southern and Eastern Europe. All were discriminated against.
