Couldn't feed his family on 14 mil a year.

Lettuce be cereal...that's a pretty pathetic shoe deal for someone in his position. Nobody is saying $14 million isn't enough money, bitches.

Damn that is a low ball deal either nike doesn't belive in the kid or they just feel extremely confident with the current guys. Nike has shelled out a lot of money over the years to big names Im suprised simmons looks like a very marketable guy in the u.s and internationally.

If someone offered me USD 12 million for a shoe deal, I'd have one question only: Where do I sign?

And it seems like waiting has paid off for Simmons as The Vertical's Shams Charania reports that the Australian forward has signed "one of the largest rookie deals for Nike."
So what is it?
fourkicks44
06-08-2016, 04:01 AM
As a rookie Kevin Durant got a seven-year, $60 million deal. LeBron got a seven-year, $90 million deal. That is considerably more than Simmons' deal.
"Nike's initial offer began much lower at $7.5 million over five years. After the NBA's draft lottery locked in the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers at the first and second picks, respectively, Nike increased its offer to $12 million over five years, with incentives valued much lower than adidas."
Interesting.

I think it's more of the style of Simmons' game. He's not a high flyer like Lebron or a scoring machine like Durant, so Nike can't really gamble a large amount on him. Hell, even Kawhi doesn't have a signature shoe yet.
Wonder what made him sign with Nike though, if Adidas offered him more.

Nike can smell the Bust from this guy. Jaylen Brown is the best prospect in this draft class.

For some reason the media turned him into a villian for not being able to lead his shitty, injured, team to a tournament appearance DESPITE AVERGING 20/12/5  AND BECAUSE HE DIDNT GO TO HIS SHIT BULLSHIT CLASSES

Yes, but he doesn't have a signature shoe with Jumpman like Melo or CP3.
Hell, Blake Griffin and LMA don't either.

Jesus people, this is what rookies get to start out
Simmons is a beast. Don't be the idiot who doubted him. Get on the bandwagon now. He'll get his shot to at least average if not better. He has a good stroke and a good work ethic. The rest of his game is filthy. Size, athleticism, handles, passing, rebounding, gets to the line at will, defends. He's an alpha version of Lamar

its called business 101. You predict bust but you also make an investment in case he does become special. You have him locked under a contract that is basically a steal....then you offer him the mega one.
Nike is genius. Notice how most people don't leave nike once they are on.....Smart business people there

If that was the case then the offer should be 3 years or less. True that is a bargain, and Nike exploited his desire to sign with them, but he said they knew "bust". No amount of money will make you invest in something you knew was going to fail. Businesses are not charities. That is business 101. This is a low risk high reward situation.

A charity is when you give and EXPECT NOTHING IN RETURN.
And is not a question of "knowing" it will fail its a feeling it will fail. Nobody knows this kid is gonna fail unless they are God or some higher entity.
This is a smart business move....if he fails and falls flat on his face.....he will be out of the league by the time the nike deal is up.....right??? Thats smart
If he blossoms and becomes one of the best players on the planet.....itll be right around the time his contract is up and then its time for the mega one.

You're actually arguing the same point I'm making.
If you predict a bust, you don't throw money into it no matter how "little" your investment is.
You're arguing "not knowing". That is different from "bust" expectations. "Not knowing" still is a calculated risk, they came in at a bargain price, so low risk, high reward.
Predicting a "bust" suggest there is NO return in investment.
Bro, I'm actually a business manager for one of the largest sports nutrtion companies in the world. I actively seek athletes to sponsor. In no business world do you throw money on a bust and be pleasantly surprised of the outcome if it pans out. You invest in the potential and decide how much you want to spend on that investment. A bust is a bust period.
Lol, watch Shark Tank. Never in the history of watching that show have I ever heard a shark say, "Well, I predict you will fail, but I'll give you money anyways."

so we are comparing shark tank to nba players now?
we are comparing people looking to expand their business who most of the time have sh*tty products to nba players?? Yes bro I watch shark tank....and that comparison is pure garbage. Its harder to predict what someone will become than it is a business. If someone came to you right now and said hey man im starting my own tshirt company and im looking for this much money will you help?? HELL its millions of tshirt companies out here...what sets yours apart from the rest?? well ummmmm lets see uhhh well all my shirts are made from blah blah blah and blah blah. With a nba player its different variables that come into play. In other words its easier to see bullsh*t in other business ventures than it is when it comes to a persons talent. Mark Cuban completely ruined the mavs title window after they won it in 2011 because he thought the team needed to get younger....I consider him a smart business man....but where has it gotten the mavs the last few seasons??? He made a RISK and it didn't turn out in his favor.
Again YOU are assuming he is a bust....you have to risk in order to make money....that's business 101 but you claim you are in business
You don't think it was a risk when nike threw mj money 30 years ago???? cmon bro don't be na

Sorry, had to cut in 2 because text was too long
I get what you are saying but what if you lose a potential star by not throwing money and watch him become the next kobe at while signed to reebok or what if you embarrass your brand by throwing him 200 million and he becomes a bigger bust than Kwame brown??
that's smart business?? taking the highest risk possible and hope for the best??? If that's the case every draft pick should get a shoe deal. Hell we have seen l2nd round picks become all stars. Lets take the last pick in the draft and give him 100 million a year. cmon
This is the exact OPPOSITE of what I'm saying. The higher the risk, the less money you want to invest.
When I said low risk I meant look at what you are getting. A number one draft pick who is already establishing himself. You got it at a bargain because that particular situation got exploited. If he fails then it was a low calculated risk. Other companies threw him more. So this was the lowest risk, highest reward situation in business possible.
What YOU are saying is expect him to bust so throw a little money into it and if it succeeds you are laughing.
What you don't understand is your ideals are the same as mine, but your fundamentals are backwards. You don't expect failure, like what you are present. You see the POTENTIAL and base your investment on that. A BUST means NO POTENTIAL. So maybe you should change your phrasing. I have 6 years experience with my business. It's making more money year after year. Sorry to say but I have already proven that concept.

In 2002 Kobe Bryant paid $8 million to buy out the remainder of his contract will Adidas. The one stipulation was for a year (till June 2003), Bryant was not permitted to sign another sneaker deal with a competitor. Eventually he penned a 4 year $40 million deal with Nike.
For that whole year as an endorsement free agent, Kobe wore whatever kicks he wanted to. The following link contains pictures of some of the shoes he wore:

My personal fav was when he rock Allen Iverson's kicks, the Reebok Question and Answer 4s.
