It was expected the Cavs would win this game. I think the rest of the series will either be Warriors win game 4 and 5 or Cavs win game 4 and Warriors win games 5 and 6.

Warriors win either way.

Yeah it was expected and it was almost too scripted. ANyone have stats on blowouts in the last 10 years?

Someone needs to pull up stats for 15+ points difference games in these playoffs compared to other years.

there was one great series that mattered gsw-okc. There were other series that were pretty competitive(most east series without the cavs) but no one cares about those series.

The average margin of victory in this series is 26 points. :oldlol:

Yeah, it's been pretty brutal. I expect that to change next game. The Warriors will most likely win a close one and then probably another blowout in game 5.

it's weird, it seems like there have been more blowouts in the NBA playoffs this year. You're right, tho, the Finals shouldn't be teams blowing each other out. I turn off games when I know who is gonna win. I turned off this game before the end of the 1st Q.

More games means more money but goddamn make it more convincing.

Reigning champs bombed by 30 points.

abc showed a graphic during the game of 25+ point blowouts in the playoffs. Before this year, the highest was 11 in 09. This year had 19

I think this trend has also something to do with the way teams play these days. Team take a lot more 3pointers these days, so if let's say the Warriors or Cleveland are hot, they can very quickly open up a big lead and at some point the other team gives up.

^^Yep it's all because of 3 point shots..Basically every game from now on will be sth like this..You can thank the analytic guys for turning NBA into a chuck festival where the hottest team in a single night will blow out the opponent and games will be over by 3rd quarter..embrace the future

These playoffs have been boring as a whole with the exception of the WCF. Most blow outs ever.

OKC vs. GSW was the only great series.

2005 NBA finals. Spurs win Games 1-2 by 15+. everyone thought series was over. Games 3-4 Spurs get blown out by 15+. very lopsided games. Game 5 went to OT. Games 6-7 were close until the 4th Q.

Okay, so its a pattern... but what does it mean and why is it happening so much and is it happening more than other years?

We need stats.

Are players saving their energy more now in blowouts? Knowing to keep it in the tank?
Is it an approach?

Is it lack of heart?

Is it corruption? Players throwing games for organized crime?

There are many possibilities...

This is officially the worst playoffs ever, more than double the number of blowouts of the next worst playoffs (2009?) per what ABC said last night.

The last truly competitive Finals series was 2013, I still remember watching game 6 and the intensity and focus on both sides from start to finish of that game hasn't been matched since then.

Games 2-5 were all blowouts. 4 out of the 7 Games were blowouts. People always cite this as some amazing/close series because of the Allen shot and Games 1 & 7 coming down to the wire but it had more blowouts than interesting games.

It's a good point. Games 1, 6 and 7 were phenomenal. The rest were utter snoozefests, a couple of which were seemingly settled by halftime. Game 6 of that series is one of the greatest ever, but you can't have that many crap games and be GOAT-tier as a series.

Actually, you could argue 2011 (storylines aside) was one of the more closely contested finals series in recent years, with Games 2, 3, 4, 5 all being good games consecutively, and Game 6 not being fully wrapped up until the end too. It will always be known for being LeBron's worst series, but in terms of the contested nature of the games, it's probably one of the better Finals of late.

Agreed. The 2012 Finals was great too. Outside of Game 5 every game was close. Even last years Finals only had 1 blowout in Game 4 (6pt game heading into the 4th).

I tend to find blowouts entertaining. It's one team flexing it's muscle and playing at a high level. Whats not to love about that . Last night was fun to see the cavs get their game back and show that they are s great team when playing well. Kyrie and lebron had some amazing moves during the game, too.

basketball is a game of adjustments. a team has a formula. the other team figures it out, makes changes and neutralizes the strategy. if they cant figure it out they get swept. its a back and forth game.

i havent been watching these finals so I cant comment on what adjustments were made.

in the 2014 Finals the first two games were close. Spurs were playing their usual pick and roll, loop game. Pop realized after game 2 that they couldnt keep up athletically with the Heat. only way to beat them was tire them out by moving the ball and exploiting the defense. the rest of the games were blow outs because Miami couldnt recover.
