View Full Version : Curry's assist numbers do not accurately represent his playmaking ability

When Curry gets double teamed behind the 3 point line, Curry will make the pass out of it, usually to Draymond Green who gets left wide open at the 3 point line because he is a poor shooter, who then in turn makes an easy pass and gets the credit for the assist.

So the double teams Curry sees hurts his assist numbers, even for the fact that the entire scoring opportunity begun while Curry broke down the defense by forcing them to double through his spacing.

Seeing as many double teams as Curry has will inevitably inflate a players number of turnovers. The added attention Curry gets lowers his assists and raises his turnovers but at the same time it creates high quality offensive opportunities for his teammates, resulting in one of the greatest offenses of all time.

Of course not. Assists only represent 1 side of playmaking. Some teams make those extra passes or even an extra one beyond that. Anyone who knows basketball should know and acknowledge this. Otherwise they are retards.

Curry is obviously the instigator of such a chain of passes because he demands double teams.

Could you give some examples and explain in depth on why?

Too bad he is always hurt and can't play a lick of defense.

Whatever he provides with his passing, he gives back at the defensive end.

When you demand a double just past half-court, it's safe to say you can be the MVP of the game without ever making a shot.

Curry gets doubled before even crossing the half court.

Thats Mj-Kobe-Shaq type of offensive level

Are the Cavs really doubling him that much though? To me it seems like Kyrie and JR are just playing more intensely than he's used to, and it's affecting his game.

This "he gets doubled every time he crosses half court" is so overblown.

Curry is doubled every play except late in shot clock when guys have to stay home. The difference with current curry and other players is his shot percentage from distance. I would think ppl would understand what's going on, a little more, especially on a forum where the discussion is Bball.

All great players who draw defensive attention create a lot of 2nd-pass scores or "hockey assists". It's certainly not exclusive to Curry. Any player who is consistently doubled creates open looks off the 2nd or 3rd pass. The ball moves faster than players. Some people think there should be an official stat for them because the 1st pass is often more important than the actual assist.

It's not exclusive yet no one does it to the extent that Curry does. And as described before, Shaq and Jordan would break down and collapse defenses in towards the paint, while Curry breaks down and collapses the defense out to the 3 point line, in result creates open lane lay up opportunities which are a higher percentage than kick out perimeter shots gained from Shaq and Jordan double teams; resulting in a better offenses than Shaq and Jordan's.

No one looks at the assists, but he has some of the most careless James Hardenesque turnovers you can see.

high turnovers is what's killing him.

Cleveland didn't double as much in Game 3. They just were physical. Curry actually flopped on a couple of his shot attempts.

the issue is just like Lebron is predictable with driving to the basket, Curry is predictably going to shoot the 3. Curry doesn't go to the basket unless he absolutely has to.

He doesn't like to do it.

Could you give some examples and explain in depth on why?

Jordan
Kobe
Duncan
Shaq
Wilt
Kareem
Hakeem

All off the top of my head for obviously different reasons.
