Muhammad Ali is the biggest pop culture figure who has ever lived when you consider fame, admiration, popularity, etc. His reach is greater than any other celebrity, I am positive of that now. He's bigger than Michael Jackson, Elvis, Madonna, Michael Jordan, Pele, Oprah. . . anyone you want to name. Ali is bigger than them all.The reaction to his death dwarfs the reaction to any celebrity death I can recall. Even Michael Jackson didn't compare to this.

nah, Michael Jackson is definitely the biggest celebrity name. i suspect either you are really young, in your teens or early 20s, or really old in your 50's

Well you'd be wrong as you almost always are. The reaction to Ali's death has been noticeably bigger than the reaction to Michael Jackson. Ali simply impacted more facets of society than Michael Jackson when you consider his monumental impact on sports, politics, race, religion, the hip hop community, parkinson's.

michael jackson had a televised wake that was aired on all the major news networks live.

and no, boxing isnt as meaningful and impactful as music that is shared all around the world. If i asked my immigrant parents from vietnam who mohammed ali was, they wouldnt know, but they sure as hell know who michael jackson was.

how about this, google "whos the biggest celebrity of all time". i bet you see michael jacksons name pop up a few times, and none for Mohamed ali.

I never said Boxing was as meaningful or impactful as music... reading is a skill. It's the combination of areas that he has impacted. Don't even look at Ali's boxing career just consider what he did outside of the ring and the huge impact he had. Michael Jackson was largely a freak sideshow the last two decades of his life who willingly destroyed his face because of his own vanity. That's what he became known for outside of his dancing and music. Ali made huge impacts in areas outside of sports. Just like Jackson, Muhammad Ali is known in every corner of the world... despite who your parents know or don't know.

Ali's reacton is not 1/10th of the one MJ got.
Michael Jackson is easily the best known celebrity of all time.

I agree.

I'm Brazilian and I don't know anyone who has not heard of Michael Jackson. I know people know does not have a clue who Ali was or who Jordan is (funny thing is Tyson is probably more famous than both here).

Ali is not even the the most famous sports celebrity worldwide. Soccer guys like Pele, Maradona, Messi, Zidane, Ronaldo, Beckham (nowhere near those guys in terms of greatness, I'm just talking fame here) are all propably more famous worldwide than Ali. And I think not even them are famous as Michael Jackson.

PS: Oprah? Lol. She is only that huge in the US.

Princess Di had a bigger reaction than Ali.
Ali is definitely the biggest cultural icon, but he's mostly famous in North America where his legend status superceded itself due to the controversy.

Hmmm and why do you people love and respect the great Ali? Seeing as HE WAS A FULL BLOWN 100% PROUD MUSLIM?
Cause all I see on this message board is that the anti-muslim propaganda has brainwashed the vast majority of you sheeps... along with a bunch of pro Trump sheep...
Just wondering where are all you dumb anti Islam, terrorist, refugees, sheep at on this one?

For me Ali's death had a greater impact than prince and mj but that's just me. I looked up to him as a kid.

I never had any connection to mj or prince. Yeah they made great music but they were weird to me.

Ali might be influential in more things but his death definitely didn't cause that much uproar. MJ's death definitely cause much more reaction.

It's a recency thing, Ali hasn't been relevant in like thirty something year while MJ is more recent and gone in a more shocking fashion. If Justin Bieber died today, it would be an even bigger reaction than MJ.

Ali was only famous in USA for so many years, especially at his peak.
Elvis was bigger than him for sure and even Elvis himself was somewhat limited to USA.
Tyson is probably as popular as Ali

You are correct in Ali possibly impacting more lives than MJ, but Ali is simply not more famous than Michael Jackson.

There are young kids born after MJ who know of him, let's see how many kids in 7 years will know who Ali is.
