View Full Version : Should Draymond Green even be considered for FMVP?
After game 4 he was at least in the top 2 spot for a Warrior winning the award, but the award isn't called the "best player" but most valuable. Given how much he hurt his team by getting himself suspended and potentially aiding Cleveland in forcing a game six, should he really be in consideration for being the most valuable?
Obviously if he comes back and dominates in a Warriors win it'll make him look amazing (and so far nobody has consistently stood out), but forcing himself out of a title winning game doesn't look good either.
Part of me is coming at this from an A.F.L perspective, where one of the main awards is 'best and fairest' and people who get suspended are ineligble. But I think a case could be made that getting yourself suspended at the most important time of the year hurts your value to the team immensely
*This is ignoring whether or not he should have been suspended, just merely considering that he HAS been suspended

Unless he comes back and has two 25/10/5 type games, I don't see how you can give it to someone who didn't play all the games.

That's a good new way of looking the situation.

It's a good point. I mean, it breathed some new life into Cleveland for sure because I do believe his absence was a huge reason they didn't win Game 5. He truly is a top 10 player in the NBA and by far the most impactful "non-scoring" type player in the world. Allowing this to happen (if it leads to a comeback) is going to look really bad on him.
At the same time, it highlights how badly this team needs him. If he comes back and is a huge part of a Game 6 title-clinching road win... how do you not give it to him? He's got my vote, but it's definitely an interesting question to raise, that why should we reward a guy for doing something that hurt his team, which he certainly did. I don't know.

1. He didn't 'get himself' suspended. That was BS.
2. The fact that they lost without him underlies his value, does it not?

IF they win the next game and he plays a big role in it then yes, he's clearly the finals mvp--look what happened to Golden State without him: they got shredded. With him, Lebron looks like a scared tortoise; no way he has this kind of game with him in the lineup.

As long as he has a decent game and the Warriors win, it is pretty much a lock that he gets it. Their performance last night only helped his cause.

so his FMVP chances are lowered because he missed the game his team got blown out in?
if anything, that ups his value because it shows how dependent his team is on his leadership. We all know he's the heart and soul of that Warriors squad.
He was the best player in 2 out of their 3 wins, he only got suspended because the Cavaliers (mainly Lebron James) called for his suspension. It's not like he blatantly kicked Lebron in the nuts like he kicked Adams (and he wasn't suspended for that). It's obvious the league wanted to extend the series so they suspended him. If he comes back and has a 20/10/5 type of a game with his team winning on the road and Steph has another 25 pts on ~40% shooting, he has a huge case for Finals MVP.
It's why Iggy won last year. he didn't go crazy on the offensive end but his defense and leadership was key to their success. If Iggy could win it, so can Green.

You don't up your value doing nothing.
You aren't valuable putting up 0/0/0 and not playing. Yes, his chances are lowered because he didn't play.

He scored 33 against the Warriors when he played in Game 3. If Green is playing they need to bench that useless piece of $hit known as Kevin Love.

Iggy was the best player in Game 1. His defense on Lebron was huge, he helped make the 2nd and 4th quarter run with the momentum changing 3 late in the 3rd and his overall great game with 12/7/6.

If there's so many aspects of life that gain value from doing nothing... than why can't the same principle be applied for an award?
there's 1 draymond green and that makes him a collectors item in an crucial time...
lets use a random example like Christmas. Every year there's always some popular gift that people end up buying for triple the price after its sold out and there's no other option at the last minute. Sitting on a shelf doing nothing doesn't make it any better, but the difference of having it or not is what becomes invaluable the next day when you see the impact that it brings. draymond green is that toy, the extra money you paid for the gift is the missed game... your kid and the golden state warriors don't give a damn about it as long you get the results.

It's an unwritten rule, that MVP stands as not just being the most valuable to your team, but also being the one that did the most

its what means the most sometimes too. 10 years down the road and championship ring is still the same, no ones talking about who did the most. its what means the most. Who are we to say what anything really means.... but that present might mean the difference of a kid selling drugs cause he remembers or maybe a daughter who doesn't exactly remember why she left home and started stripping for dollars. But when that happens, you'll look back and think holy shit...just like steph curry, the money was all just an illusion and by then, the books been written.
