View Full Version : Orlando shooter
And you wonder why people continually ask why the Muslim community doesn't help the Western world to stop this...
Authorities are weighing criminal charges against the wife of homegrown terrorist Omar Mateen after she admitted having tried to talk him out of launching his deadly attack on a gay nightclub, according to a report Tuesday.
Noor Salman told the FBI that she once drove her hubby to the Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, Fla., before he went on the rampage that killed 49 patrons there rampage there early Sunday, NBC reported.
Salman said she tried to convince Mateen not to do anything, according to the network.
She also reportedly admitted that she accompanied him when he bought ammo and a holster.
Jail. For life.

Also, I would be able to spot the red flags early and not get married or involved with a radical Islamist terrorist in the first place.

This shit has been going on for decades. Authorities knew about the organized Pakistani rape gangs for 15+ years in the UK and were scared to do anything about it in case they got called racist.
We should fear murder, death and rape more than we do being called racist.
The fact that we don't is a sad testament to the current times.

So you're saying that the spouse's of terrorists figured out what the hell is going on? :lebronamazed:
But really, even if she told the authorities... What would they have done? In 2013 Mateen's co-workers informed the authorities that he had been openly talking about martyring himself and joining up with several Mid East-based groups. The FBI launched an investigation, nothing came of it. Didn't stop him from being able to purchase the weapons he used to carry out the attack.
A huge red flag should've been him attempting to purchase body armor that was beyond the grade that riot police use. What possible use could that be to a civilian? If someone says 'self defense' or something about the constitution I swear to Ganesh I'll fly to your town just to smack the tar out of you.

My understanding is that things like body armor is illegal unless you have a very special license. Yes, this should have been a red flag if he's not permitted to purchase such items.
I believe he was a security professional though. He might have been permitted to own something like a bulletproof vest.
It is a little weird that a bullet proof vest would be illegal. It's purely defensive.

Omar Mateen's wife, Noor Zahi Salman, told the FBI she was with him when he bought ammunition and a holster, several officials familiar with the case said. She told the FBI that she once drove him to the gay nightclub, Pulse, because he wanted to scope it out.

Mateen walks into a local gun shop, asks for military grade body armor, assault rifle, and X amount of ammunition.
The gun shop owner runs a 'background check' that reveals he was investigated twice by the FBI after openly supporting groups like Al Qaeda and expressing wishes to be a martyr. Possibly also info about him abusing his spouse and her suspecting him of being bipolar.

Rather than run an intrusive police state, why dont we simply refuse to admit people into this country from radicalized regions, then get to work on ways to create a culture that helps prevent the mass shootings we already occasionally deal with from our own citizens?
I guess I dont see why youd rather keep bringing terrorists in, and keep having to create more government to combat them, rather than just nip it in the bud and not let them in?
Is it a thing about hurting feelings? I genuinely dont understand what you could possibly oppose about prohibitions on middle eastern immigration. Is it because it's something Republican voters want and you dont want to give them any victories? I just dont get it.
Your own life is increasingly at risk. Even if you want comprehensive gun reform, that would take a while due to the second amendment. We could halt immigration immediately. Why are you against that?

Mateen was born in the U.S. and was a citizen, same as the San Bernadino shooter. And as we discussed already, the vast majority of these type of attacks are carried out by White males. In fact, around the same time that Mateen was shooting up Pulse in Orlando, young James Wesley Howell (http://www.indystar.com/story/news/crime/2016/06/13/james-wesley-howells-ex-boyfriend-didnt-surprise-me-all/85836328/) was planning a similar style attack in LA. Had a car full of assault rifles and explosive material. Luckily the police intercepted him before he could carry out his plot.
Would've been one hell of social experiment if he had been successful. I would've gotten an XL bag of popcorn to watch as people demonized an entire religion because of one shooter on the East Coast but talked about mental health being the issue in the West. Ban all Muslims because of Mateen... But not all Elijah Wood impersonators because of Howell.

You can't ban people who are already citizens and thus afforded the protection of the Constitution. Stop being stupid, and stop pretending an immigrant from England poses the same risk as one from a random tribal community in Afghanistan, or that they have the same chances of assimilating properly into American society, and living within the confines of its rules and customs.

Let's just hope she gets a fair trial. I can see the argument against the "Good Samaritan" mentality where some would argue that it's not appropriate hold someone accountable for simply not actively acting to thwart somebody else's illegal activity. However, if it can be proven that she knowingly and WILLINGLY (not under duress) participated in actions in preparation of this terror attack, she should absolutely be held accountable.

I dont know... mid 2000s? When radical Islam became a common, global problem?
Your argument would still probably ring true, but the kicker is the majority of mass shootings are also not politically motivated. The vast majority take place at parties, or in domestic disputes, or on street corners between rival gangs.
The death toll is generally less than 2. Proportionally, you're probably going to lose the body count game.
So I think it's prudent to at least stop the ones that are, since (obviously by this dudes background and threats to commit mass murder) are a lot easier to identify.

Why should she be put in jail? She tried to convince her husband not to do this, she did not agree with his scheme, and did not kill anyone.
I don't think you have a firm grasp of basic law.

If the article is true and what she is saying is factual as far as driving him around to buy the weapons and scoping out the club. How do you not charge her depending on what laws she broke?
At least she is fessing up. However why would you wait? Loved one or not. When your ass is PURCHASING the weapons and scoping out the spot in my presence at that point you leave me no choice but to turn you in.

She's only been in America for 10 years. She's from Pakistan. She probably has no concept of American law. In Pakistan if your Muslim husband says he's gonna kill some gays, it's probably not anything out of the ordinary and you certainly don't disobey him or work against him. We're talking about a country where people routinely get killed by mobs over rumors that they might have dropped a Koran on the ground.
We're fooling ourselves if we believe that people from cultures like this can come to the west and seamlessly assimilate.

I dont know... mid 2000s? When radical Islam became a common, global problem?
.
When was the Iranian hostage crisis? When did the Israeli Olympic team get massacred? when did all those Mideast skyjackings first start?

Well, technically we can go back to the 1200's if we really wanted...
This mass shooting craze only became fashionable in the last few years. Even after 9/11, terrorist attacks in the US were relatively few and far between.

Should we deport all socially awkward white teenage boys? Half of ISH would be gone.

[QUOTE]Investigators have found nothing to indicate Omar Mateen visited gay nighclubs, used gay dating apps, or had gay lovers.
http://www.snopes.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/mateen.jpg
One of the many theories bruited around in the wake of the June 2016 mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, was that the event might have been something more than a random killing or an act of Islamic-inspired terrorism. Although the shooter, Omar Mateen, claimed before his death that he carried out the shooting in allegiance to ISIS as a message for the U.S. to halt the bombing in Iraq and Syria, many people theorized that Mateen was himself gay and might have been acting out of some combination of self-loathing and a hatred of homosexuals. Such rumors were backed up by claims that Mateen had used gay dating sites and apps, was a regular customer of the Pulse gay nightclub prior to the shooting, and had gay lovers.
However, FBI investigators say they have not yet found evidence that any of that is true (nor have they found any direct links between Mateen and members of Islamic State).
The rumors apparently started with several Pulse regulars who came forward the shooting and claimed to have seen Mateen at the club or to have been contacted by him on gay dating apps such as Grindr, Jack
