Take their little boy to Disney World and watch him get eaten by an alligator...:(

The entire park is built on a swamp in central Florida. Of course it is full of gators. The times I've been there I've often wondered if a gator has ever gotten into a ride that involves water (small world, pirates of the Caribbean, etc.)

No one can prevent accidents but as a parent you have to use some common ****ing sense. I've stayed at another property near that one on the same lagoon. All the resorts on that lagoon have huge pools with slides, waves, fountains, toddler pools, etc. The "beach" areas have places to play volleyball, etc. and there are signs everywhere warning people not to set foot in the lagoon. There's no need to with all the pools. But as is the case everywhere there are people who don't think rules apply to them.

Alligators are a protected species btw.

If there are signs everywhere warning to not set foot in the lagoon, then yeah I guess the parents are at fault...they went into the lagoon when warned not to.

I'm not seeing those signs in the pics though, and it is confusing to me that they would have to close a beach that they already warn people about.

I'm not saying it's completely the parents fault, but as a Florida resident I first hand know just how many Gators we have in any kind of body of water, let alone a lagoon/swamp. The fact that Disney decided to make a hotel and beach right next to one is dumbfounding, what did they expect?

I'm a Californian and I want to know is there a reason they should be protected? I think they should be killed just like some states allow the killing of wild hogs that infest and breed like roaches.

Last year I was on vacation at Disney, I did remember seeing signs saying "No Swimming". As a tourist who is not familiar with Florida, alligator never crossed my mind especially inside the Disney Resort. If Disney knew there were gators in their water, they should have put up a sign saying "Warning, do not go to the water due to gators", people would be more cautious.
Horrible tragedy.

A lot of times an alligator will drown its prey and then stash it under a rock or tree roots and come back and eat it later.
