Don't know where you're going with any of this. My only guess it you're trying to prove that players lie about their height. Which everyone knows already.

Players always make themselves seem taller then they are. All coaches are personnel of teams are given the draft measurements, just they can decided to add an inch or so onto some players.

Things like this are why I just dont buy modern players being far taller than they used to be. If the 60s players got measured for official heights in shoes the average height of centers in the late 60s would be like 6'11''. Most of the best bigmen are below 7. Amare, Boozer, Emeka, Duncan, KG, Dirk, Bosh, and so on. All below 7. Couple of them are 6'8''.

Many of these height variations can be accounted for the fact that they often measure players with shoes on. Also, they round up to the nearest inch. Few of these heights are straight up lies.

Many players in NBA are telling tall stories

New Jersey Nets center Jason Collins is listed at 7-feet tall in the NBA's player guide.

Truth be told, Collins needs a boost to even come close.

"In sneakers, with my orthotics, ankle braces and two pairs of socks, I'm a good 6-111/2," said a chuckling Collins, whose Nets trail the San Antonio Spurs 2-1 in the best-of-seven NBA Finals heading into tonight's Game 4 in New Jersey. "It's almost a joke."

Collins, who's more like 6-foot-8, isn't the only basketball player telling a tall tale.

Many NBA hopefuls exaggerate their height while in high school or college to make themselves more appealing to coaches and scouts who prefer taller players. Collins, for example, remembers the exact day he picked to experience a growth spurt.

"Media day, my junior year," the Stanford graduate said. "I told our sports information guy that I wanted to be 7 feet and it's been 7 feet ever since."

Collins isn't fooling any of his teammates.

Four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Dikembe Mutombo, a legitimate 7-foot-2, said he and Collins don't exactly see eye-to- eye.

"They're giving him 4 inches," Mutombo said. "There are a lot of guys who list heights that they are not."

Mutombo said Larry Johnson, the former Charlotte Hornets and New York Knicks forward, was among the most grandiose exaggerators. While at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Johnson was purportedly 6- foot-7. At the NBA's annual pre-draft camp, however, he barely topped 6-3.

"When guys are checked out in Chicago, it's the amazing shrinking measurement," said Marty Blake, the NBA's director of scouting.

The NBA doesn't measure players, which is probably why 1993 Most Valuable Player Charles Barkley got away with being listed at 6-foot- 6. Many who played against Barkley said he was, at most, 6- 4.

Several active players, including Philadelphia 76ers point guard Allen Iverson, are also practicing fuzzy measurement.

Officially, the league's 2001 MVP is listed at 6-foot-1.

"There's no way," Spurs forward Malik Rose said. "He's like 5- 11."

Rose, who's listed at 6-foot-7, admits to having fibbed about his height. Rose said he's actually 6-6, but felt he needed another inch or two in order to entice NBA scouts to consider an undersized forward from Drexel University.

"Nobody's going to go see a 6-6 center from a low-level Division I school so they gave me that one inch that helped," Rose said.

NBA spokesman Tim Frank said the league counts on its teams to give accurate measurements of their players, who don't necessarily need to change their height.

Victor Dolan, head of the chiropractic division at Doctors' Hospital in New York, said players can increase their height by getting measured early in the morning because vertebrae get compressed as the day progresses. A little upside-down stretching doesn't hurt, either.

"If you get measured on an inversion machine, and do it when you first wake up, maybe you could squeeze out an extra inch-and-a- half," Dolan said.

I know he was 7 feet, but Walt thought it made him look extraordinarily tall, Blake said.

Spurs veteran Steve Kerr laughed when asked which players lied most about their height. He cited the now-defunct World Basketball League, which originally permitted only players under 6-foot-5.

Kerr said aspiring NBA players, many of whom were listed at 6-8 and over, wound up honing their skills in the WBL.

They lost 4 inches in a six-month period, said Kerr, who is listed at -- and actually stands -- 6-foot-3.

Former NBA All-Star Nate Tiny Archibald, who grew up in New York, said no one he played with or against cared that he was 6-foot-1 while he was zipping past defenders on the asphalt courts.

In the city, it wasn't how tall you were, he said. It was about developing a rep.

Plenty of NBA teams will be interested in free-agent point guard Earl Boykins, who at 5-foot-5 is the shortest player in the league this season.

Boykins, who averaged 8.8 points as a reserve for the Golden State Warriors this season, said it's about time general managers and scouts abandon their bigger-is-better mentality.

The NBA is so biased toward guys that are taller, Boykins said. Either you can play or you can't.

The NBA's top official isn't about to call for league-mandated measurements of players. Commissioner David Stern, whose height isn't listed in the NBA guide but was once estimated at 5-foot-9, said the disparity between reality and hype only adds to the intrigue of the game.

If they told you the exact heights they would have to eliminate you, Stern said. It's one of the best-kept secrets in sports.>

Ben Wallace Height is very enigmatic i do not know whether he is 6'5 or 6'7. I mean he was billed at 6'9, Ben does not look taller than the 6'1 Ben Gordon and Sophomore Tyrus Thomas who is a legit 6'7 1/4 is 2 1/4 inches taller than Wallace.

Ben got where he is today with old-fashioned tenacity—you might say he’s a “fro-back,” not to mention the most valuable forward in basketball. This is his story…

GROWING UP

Ben Wallace was born September 10, 1974, in White Hall, Alabama. The 10th of 11 children, and the youngest of eight brothers, he spent his early childhood in nearby Benton, which was declared the smallest town in America back in the 1960s. Later, the family moved to White Hall. Ben’s mother, Mama Sadie, was the family matriarch—her word was law, and none of the Wallace boys dared to defy her. She raised food and a small cotton crop near the house, and made all the clothes for her family. Resourcefulness and hard work were a way of life, lessons which Ben took to heart.

There was not a lot of extra cash in the Wallace home (they never had a car and were the last family in the area to get electricity), so all the kids had to pitch in. When Ben and his brothers wanted spending money, they picked pecans or bailed hay for local farmers.

Ben spent a lot of time with his siblings fishing and playing basketball. They had put up a rim on the side of their tiny, three-bedroom house, and with so many kids around, it was easy to get together games of three-on-three and four-on-four. The battles could get mighty fierce. Because he was usually the smallest kid on the court, the only way Ben ever got his hands on the rock was by rebounding it, stealing it, or saving it from going out of bounds. Incredibly, he is still the smallest boy in the family all these years later.

Ben—who would eventually grow to 6-7 and 240 pounds (he’s listed at 6-9, but that’s counting his hair)—was a strong, wiry kid who excelled at baseball, football and basketball. By the time he graduated from Central High School in Hayneville, he would earn All-State honors in each of these sports. He also ran track.

As a teenager, Ben liked to handle the basketball. He fancied himself as a new-age hybrid, blending the skills required by each different position. Sometimes he would take over games and actually play every position, much to the chagrin of his teammates and the annoyance of his coaches. Although Ben liked to boast he could shoot like Isiah, pass like Magic and dunk like Michael, the reality was something short of that.

yeah, this is really interesting. as someone who is obessed with my height, i have measure myself at different times of the day. when i wake up in 6'7''1/2 without shoes on, im 6'8.5'' with shoes on in morning. but when i come home from after lifting in the evening, ill be 6'6''3/4 and 6'7''3/4 with shoes on. i really value stadning reach though to measure true abilities. btw i just say in 6'8'' haha

6'10" 235lbs. Scout called him a Porsche and said Shrempf is a VW compared to him? They're both nazi's as far as I'm concerned. 28.5 points, 9.8 rebounds in Germany. I hate to see a kraut like this do well, but he looks like he can really play. The only question is whether he is soft or not (i.e. Kukoc). Hell of a shooter and only 19. Might sign with Bologna in Italy and play, or stay and play for "Der Fuher" in Germany, or as he calls it, home. If everyone's right about him, he'll be a big contributor in the NBA. Hey you are the poster from the Pacland forum by the way Ray Allen is a legit 6'5 he is 4 inches taller than legit 6'1 Luke Ridnour.

Ray Allen is slouching in that picture compare to the other picture where legit 6'10 Lewis is only 5 inches taller than him.

By the way Shaq stated in his interview that he is not a full 7'1 he is 7'0 or 6'11 3/4.

Lebron James has grown and is a legit 6'8 now FIBA listed his height at 6'9 in their website.

Karl Malone was not a legit 6'9 he is only 6'8 The Mail man beat Rodman by more than 2 inches. Rodman by the way is a legit 6'6 not the 6'8 NBA listed him in the 1990's.


Bynum is never 7'1 you got that height listing from those inglorious homer in the LA LAKERS Fans Site. Bynum was measured at 7'0 1/4 in the 2005 NBA Draft.

Michael Jordan is 6'4 and Kobe Byrant is taller by him by 3/4 of an inches.

Caron Butler by the way is measured at 6'5 1/4 in the 2002 NBA Draft as you can see he is taller than Kobe Bryant.

I know Andrew Bynum was measured at 7'0 1/4 but he was only 17 and he claims to have grown 3/4 of an inch. I have seen enough of Shaq to think he is 7'1 besides he said "7 foot even" when he was 18 in 1989 so he probably grew. Kobe looks taller than Redd in that picture and Jordan looks a little over 6'5 because he was as tall as Rip in the picture you posted and he was slouching a bit.

Jordan looks 6'5 1/2 to me and Pippen I'd say is 6'7 even. I also have a link to Amir Johnson being measured at 6'9(some claim he grew to 6'11). I can't tell how tall Ray Allen is in that picture because of the angle. He looks 6'5 next to Rashard Lewis though.

Yeah he is a lot taller. I should be able to get the 1999 measurements but I don't know about 96' or 97' Lebron looks about 2 inches taller than Vince Carter. Lamar odom might be 6'9 because he was listed at 6'9 quite a bit before the 1999 draft but he looks 6'10 next to legit 6'8 Elton Brand. Do you think Rashard Lewis is 6'9 or 6'10? Shawn Marion was also listed 6'5 before the 1999 draft but I think he is taller.

I took that into account. That is why Shaq looks 4 inches taller than Hakeem instead of 3. Shaq slouches sometimes but when he doesn't he goes over 7'1. All big man have big shoes anyway. Also if Shaq is 7'0 then KG is 6'10-6'11 and I know KG is 6'11 3/4

Couple of points seeing as a few on here were taking a dig at the fantastic celebheights.com site

1.most regular posters on that site have T-Mac at 6'6.5 not 6'9 as someone here claimed. Maybe one weirdo thought T-Mac was 6'9..., we had one weirdo last year who claimed to have met Shaq in person and said that he was just 6'7

2.Nearly everyone on celebheights.com thinks that Lebron is 6'7.

3.this is directed to the poster Lebron23; the evidence of shaq being 7'0 next to the wall in "Steel" is totally flawed. None of the lines were either straight or the same distance apart. For what its worth i believe shaq is 7'0

Great pictures although I disagree on a few. Jermaine O'Neal looks atleast 4 inches taller than Stephen Jackson when he is standing up straight. Jermaine has claimed he is 7'0" but that is BS I say he is around 6'11" max. Vince also only looks the same height as Lewis because he is leaning a little. Is it just me or does it look like Gerald Green grew a little? BTW T-Mac was rounded to 6'7" with shoes in his 1997 draft video so the 6'6.25" measurement barefoot seems correct because if he was 6'6.5" like some say he would have been listed 6'8" with shoes. Kobe and MJ are the same height right now but I don't have Kobe's pre-draft measurement or MJ's. I have heard Jordan was 6'4.75 in the 1992 Olympics and 6'5" in the 1984 Chicago pre-Draft camp but I have no proof or link so I don't know if that is true. Sometimes T-Mac looks less than 6'6" with 6'5.5" Vince Carter.

I have looked for Diaw's height..I'll guess 6'8"...I think he was listed at that in Europe and those heights are accurate. Vince is 6'5 1/2 and looks nearly as tall as T-Mac who is 6'6 1/2. Where did you get the 6'1 1/4 height for Parker...pre-draft measurement? That is where I get most of the heights. Shawn Marion is a legit 6'6 1/2" so compare him to Diaw and you can tell how tall Diaw is or compare Diaw with 6'8 1/2 Amare Stoudemire. Shaq is also a legit 7'1" look at the pictures with 6'10" Hakeem Olajuwon, 6'10" Tim Duncan, 7'1" Dikembe Mutombo and 6'11 3/4" Kevin Garnett I posted.

Parker claims 186cm (6'1 1/4) himself and has 186cm on his personal website despite being listed at 188cm (6'2) by the NBA. There are a ton of pictures floating around here in Europe of Parker next to soccer players, tennis players etc and he looks a legit 6'1 1/4 in them all. Parker is also around the same height (maybe a little taller) as Greg Popovich too if thats any use.

When the NBA held its annual pre-draft camp in Chicago earlier this month, even the studliest prospects got the raw-recruit treatment. "They pinch and poke and prod you," says out-to-pasture studhorse Bill Walton, who has long insisted that he's an honest 6-foot-11. "Then they put the calipers on you. It's like submitting yourself to one of the Big Five accounting firms."


The Timberwolves' Kevin Garnett, though widely thought to be 7-foot, is listed at 6-11 at his insistence. Why? He doesn't want any coach to get the notion to stick him at center.

North Carolina had a parade of not-quite-7-footers, including Brad Daugherty (6-11 3/4 in the press guide) and Warren Martin (officially 6-11 1/2), until Matt Wenstrom matriculated at Chapel Hill in 1993 at 7-1. Why didn't Dean Smith round up for all those years? According to one pale-blue source, the Tar Heels coach long feared that a listing at 7-foot carried with it the pressure of outsized expectations. With Wenstrom he apparently had a change of heart, and Smith went on to list Kevin Salvadori, Eric Montross and Serge Zwikker as 7-footers.

If Earl Boykins hadn't billed himself as 5-8 coming out of high school, no one would have recruited him. He is really 5-5, but his coach at Eastern Michigan, Ben Braun, wouldn't let him be listed at anything below 5-7, lest Braun's peers think Braun -- the only coach to offer Boykins a scholarship -- was nuts. Only as a senior in Ypsilanti did Boykins feel he could 'fess up to his true size.

If they aren't smoked out at the pre-draft camp, padded heights get exposed at USA Basketball team trials. It was in the run-up to the 1992 Olympics that the world finally learned what the cognoscenti had long suspected -- that Charles Barkley was more like 6-4 5/8 than 6-6, and Magic Johnson closer to 6-7 than 6-9. Likewise, it was a measurement in 1988 before the Games (citius, altius -- but not unduly altius) that exposed Danny Manning, who had been a 6-11 freshman at Kansas, as a 6-9 NBA draftee-to-be.

So Magic is closer to 6'7"...that could mean 6'7 1/2" or 6'7" flat I don't know. Barkley was measured at 6'4 5/8" according to Sports Illustrated and Brad Daugherty is 6'11 3/4" I am going to look for the 1992 measurements.

By the way they said in the main forum that Dorell Wright is now a legit 6'10 1/2. I think Wright is between 6'5 3/4- 6'6 3/4 ( with out shoes)

Maybe we should start a new thread. This one is kind of messy and the new thread would have updated heights plus it belongs in the regular NBA forum and more people would see it. A title of Real NBA Heights would be better.
