View Full Version : is Kobe Bryant the only top 10 player without the benefit of ref favoritism?

that's why Kobe is special to me, it's clear now that NBA manufactures superstars on the basis of preferential refereeing and treatment. This has diminished guys like Allen Iverson, who was an unofficial enemy of the league and hence never got the benefit of the doubt and was actively blackballed, and elevated guys like Lebron, who essentially plays Football on a basketball court.

And after Colorado, NBA desperately wanted to make Kobe disappear, the refs basically never gave him or the lakers any leeway after that incident and were always incentivized to short change him.

Yet he still won 5 rings and is undisputed top 10 player of all time

Basically if you look at the top 10 list, he's the only player that the league never fully supported wholeheartedly. So he won IN SPITE of the league

He, like every other superstar, received beneficial calls from referees.

The NBA did everything they could to STOP Kobe and he STILL overcame the BS.

They blocked a VERY FAIR trade to PUT AN END TO HIS CAREER.

They NEVER gave him the calls most superstars get.

That's why he's the 2nd GOAT. ALL SKILL.

Lebron. He gets fouled about 90% of the time he drives but since he's so big and strong the refs don't notice or call the contact because it barely alters his shot, if at all

Agreed, and this is coming from a Kyrie fan. It's honestly histerical how much Cavs get away with smashing into/tripping Curry everytime he tries to break away from his man. It's part of the reason why he's been great, but not his usual dominant self this series. If Cavs can't pull this off with the amount of shit going our way( injuries, refs) this will go down as one of the great chokes in history.

Dont forget league favoritism

Veto a trade for a 5'10 point guard while Kobe was at the tail end of his career :applause:

It's really inspirational when you think about it, poverty athleticism, pedestrian size, not a favorite son of the league or the commissioner

STILL Kobe's top 10 all time

ALL SKILL indeed :applause:

Kobe was treated like the ugly middle child between MJ and Lebron
